This scammer is stealing photos of homes for his scam. He has no rental property. He will claim to rent rooms, apartments and houses across the country. He will use craigslist most of the time. He has a fake website in an attempt to give him credibility. The artwork photos on the site are also stolen. The phone number to call him is set up to send him text voice messages. The text phone number he is using is through a free text service used in many scams

He will have you mail a check, money order to a third party. He will sometimes have you pay via Western Union or Money Gram.

Hi there !, i want to say that just last week my daughter in law was contacted by 'who' seems to be this person, although 'it' claimed to be a female. My daughter in law got this exact email however, they were from DE not NY, little did this person know that i worked for years w/ an attorney so i know how to do research well. i went to courthouse and did a title search, now the funny part, the house in question was actually owned by MY current landlord, it was one of his rentals....i also did phone checks, one was listed in OH and the other linked me to this forum. along ways from DE !, i will be handing all the research that i have over to my landlord, not too sure if this person will ever be tracked down, but worth a try !, will keep you all posted

He has been talking to me, too!! He's using the email [email protected] and the name Andrew R Sherman. The house he is "renting" is a real house, in my town, and for sale, but he claims he's looking to rent it out now bc he is staying with family in FLA, to have help raising his kids, as he is a single parent and just had surgery for a spinal chord injury due to a car accident. Now, what's interesting, is according to the county treasurer's website, this Andrew R Sherman person really did own the house at one point. So I guess this scammer is probably just using this previous owner's name on his emails to look believable. I just googled this guy's name and he came up on a mugshot website, says he's from Fla, which is where he said he was currently staying, and his charge was "UTTERING A FORGED INSTRUMENT"!! Hmm, sounds to me like he's been busted from scams/fraudulent activity before!! But, since someone by that name DID own the house at one time, maybe that is a different Andrew R Sherman that came up. I am going to my county treasurer's office Tues to let them know someone has their house online and for rent, and also the realtor as well. But I am NOT letting him know I am on to him, as it is now, he thinks my husband and I are talking it over. Wow, still can't believe this guy!!

Ok, I have to ask, has anyone on here actually paid this guy money?? I knew from the get-go that it was too good a deal to be true, and even after I saw it was too small for our family, I started researching out of curiosity. I know someone who was in a similar real estate scam ring, and she got caught and is now doing 3-5 yrs in PRISON!! Let's hope this guy gets caught, too!

He still thinks that I don't know he is a scammer as of today and is still texting me from the number above.

The problem is the police can't really do much.

He is not in Florida, and has never been in Florida. He is overseas, most likely in Western Africa or Malaysia. The phone number is a VOIP number, which means that it really doesn't support his location at all.

There may or may not be a person named Lewis living at the address he gave you for WU (but there are other tricks used to collect money as well.) If there is, he is just a mule who collects and forwards the money. He may be an accomplice, but he is equally likely to be a victim who believes he has a legitimate job collecting payments or donations, or someone who has fallen for a romance scam and thinks that he is receiving the money for a good (and honest) reason.

Since the police can't do anything about overseas criminals, and no money has been lost, they just can't dedicate the resources to this scam. That's why it is so important that we educate people and help them to avoid losing money in the first place.

Apparently the scammer is still active and hasn't needed to change his/her email address. That's how I found this site. I knew that it was fishy after there was no name, address or photos sent by the second correspondence. I haven't replied to the most recent email and haven't indicated that I know anything's up. He/she also hasn't asked for $ yet either. This is the dialogue so far (newest to oldest):
