Hello,

Thanks for your prompt response regard your interest in my apartment, you seem to be a responsible person and I can assure you that you will not have any problems in renting my lovely home.

My name is Battaglia Andrew, the owner of the apartment located at (359 Maple St, Brooklyn NY 11225), I left the apartment since 3 weeks ago due to the nature of my Job and my present health condition. I decided to post the apartment on craigslist to give it out for rent since I’m am no longer leaving in the apartment any more. We are looking for a responsible and reliable person that can take good care of the lovely home, as we are not after the money for the rent but we want it to be kept clean properly as soon as you move in. Am at the hospital in Texas right now and i have just succeeded my surgery and am getting better.

First of all, if you want to rent the apartment you need to pay the first month rent and the security deposit ( $750 + $750 = $1,500 ) ! (The security deposit will be return back to you after you finish the contract) !

1 Bedroom apartment with 1 Bath (Utilities is included)

If you decide to proceed with this transaction, I will have to contact the New York Housing Authority and provide them all the necessary information, so they can start the process right away.

I will need your full name and address for that. You will receive a notification from the New York Housing Authority shortly after that, together with all the instructions to follow and the invoice as well.

Regarding the payment, you will be instructed to deposit the money to New York Housing Authority. They will hold and insure your money until you check the apartment and decide if you want to take it or not.

That is how their buyer protection policy works. As far as am concerns, I will be glad to know that New York Housing Authority has the possession of the money during the delivery period. That is my insurance. As soon as the funds have been deposited into their account, the keys and the paper works will be sent to you immediately within 24Hours after you have made the payment to the NY Housing Authority.

You will be given a five days inspection period from the day you receive the keys and the contract documentation. If you decide to hold the apartment, then you will have to authorize New York Housing Authority to release the funds to me, and the transaction will be completed. If you will not be satisfied with the apartment, you will be able to send the keys and contract back through the same service and ask New York Housing Authority to return the funds to you.

I am giving you 100% assurance that you will love the apartment as soon as you set your eyes on it because everything about the apartment is perfectly ok.

If you wish to proceed in renting the apartment, please e-mail me your Full Name, Address, Direct Phone #, Age, How soon do you intend moving in? and Occupation. This will enable me to forward your information to the New York Housing Authority for the delivery of the keys and the documentation.

I am looking forward to hear from you.

Best Regards,
Battaglia Andrew

This person asks for a deposit payment via Western Union, MoneyGram or bank transfer with a promise that you can have the keys to a property that does not belong to him.

Sounds safe. It's not!

At other times, he will ask for proof that you are able to pay the deposit and rent due to a string of time wasters.
This proof is in the form of a Western Union or MoneyGram payment to a lawyer,a friend or family member.

In either case, if payment is made and you give this person the details, they will collect the money.
You will not hear from them again.

All the details such as names, addresses, pictures etc. that the scammer uses in order to back up his story, are stolen from elsewhere.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Craigslist, Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.
