Good day Applicant,

This is to acknowledge the receipt of your inquiry email to my posting on Craigslist regarding my house for rent. I do apologize for not including my name on the ad which is for security purpose as a result of the numerous scam being practiced on Craigslist. I Ashley Dugger, the owner of the house and happily married for 3 years now.

The house in question has been up for sale because, we hardly had the chance to settle in the States due to the nature of my job but presently, we have decided to put it on rent for $600 per month reason because i have been officially transferred. My family and I are now based in Africa, Nigeria to be precise and I am working with the CAMFED in collaboration with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). You can visit our link (http://us.camfed.org/site/PageServer?pa ... home_index ) as to see how steadfast and dedicated we are working to make sure the words of God is not just heard but adopted into our daily activities.
I want to use this medium to tell you more about the house because, i have spent so much in its maintenance and that was the reason i wanted to sell it off. so I will solicit for your absolute maintenance of the house as i want to be confident you would take care of the property as if it were yours. Looking from the pictures i posted, you would see how beautiful it is and i am certainly sure you will love the inside when you finally get in there. Do endeavour to drive by at your convenience as to see it physically as i was unable to drop the keys. Reason for this is because, i wasn't really familiar with my neighbors living around due to the nature of my job. It has a dramatic entry foyer with ceramic floor. Utilities include Water, Trash, Sewer and Gas.

This person asks for a deposit payment via Western Union, MoneyGram or bank transfer with a promise that you can have the keys to a property that does not belong to him.

Sounds safe. It's not!

At other times, he will ask for proof that you are able to pay the deposit and rent due to a string of time wasters.
This proof is in the form of a Western Union or MoneyGram payment to a lawyer,a friend or family member.

In either case, if payment is made and you give this person the details, they will collect the money.
You will not hear from them again.

All the details such as names, addresses, pictures etc. that the scammer uses in order to back up his story, are stolen from elsewhere.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Craigslist, Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.
