The thief will tell you that you can rent his accommodation only if you can prove that you have genuine interest. He will ask you send money by wire transfer (normally Western Union) to yourself or a member of the family to show that you have sufficient finances and that you are not a "time waster".
Another variation of this scam is that you need to send (by Western Union) money in order that the keys and other documents can be couriered to you
He will ask you to send him the transfer details.
Make no mistake ! Western Union Transfers can be picked up virtually anywhere in the world and with the minimum of identification. They are almost impossible to trace once the money has been collected. You will never get to see the accommodation or your money again.
If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment by Western Union before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.

Thanks for the sincere interest you have in my flat and for the response you have been giving me, Don't get me wrong about the transfer for the confirmation.
I said make a transfer to yourself using your name as the receivers name and your closest friend as the senders name through the western union post office, And not a bank transfer statement or housing benefits that some people do presents. Then forward the scan copy of the western union receipt to me for me to forward it to my lawyer for confirmation if truly it is valid and also to confirm your financial ability as a reliable tenant. After the confirmation has been made, then you can go and pick up the money, then you meet me up for the viewing. I told you my lawyer made this decision and i signed it for him to put my flat in good order,i am not ready to violate my lawyers procedure by chance and please try to understand.
Note: The tenant that left my flat also passed through my lawyers procedure and i am not ready to violate my lawyers procedure by chance. i stopped accepting bank details because past seekers of my flat provided fake bank details,i am not ready to go through such non sincerity. I am not saying yours is fake but i am sorry i don't accept backing statement. Also note that cost of transfer will be returned to you when you come for the viewing.
Thanks for your understanding
Best Regards
Mr/Mrs Baker
