Rental Scammer - [email protected]

This person is still at it- presumably because it is so much of a hassle to report him. I tried calling the Roanoke police where the number is from, and the lady was such a cu*t at dispatch that she didn't even ask what the number in question was. Anyways, this is a letter we received with texts to our phone numbers- it really feels creepy to have an obvious criminal low down scumbag texting you and having your phone number, so now I will be more careful about craigslist obviously, here's his/her email
Disgusting. And just to think- this individual is a KID's DOCTOR. Obviously not. they deserve to be strung up by their toenails

Sadly, The Roanoke police can't do anything either, and it's very possible that you got an attitude because they have been dealing with complaints from victims who have lost money to this scam too. Local police departments are often very frustrated by these situations as well.

The phone number provider traces to bandwidth.com, which means that it is a VOIP number. The scammer isn't in Roanoke. He is most likely not anywhere in North America. As you said, he is not a kid's doctor either (and he defines pediatrician because he doesn't know that it is a universally recognized term in the US, because he has never been here...) He could be anywhere, but is most likely in Africa (which is where he's from) or Malaysia (where a very large cell of African scammers is located.) He just copied information from a legitimate real estate listing like this one: http://www.trulia.com/property/8800882-1401-Clayton-St-Denver-CO-80206 and created a fake rental ad.

Unfortunately, this is typical of how these scams generally work. The scammers are hiding across country lines, far out of the reach of local law enforcement. They use fake names and details, so that the trail cannot easily be followed to them. International investigations are extremely costly, and the scammers know that if they take basic precautions to hide their real identity, an investigation won't be launched.
That's why posting the information is so important--it is often the only real tool we have to keep others from falling for them.
