Room for Rent and other rental scams

Be careful.
I've posted an add on gumtree and they've contacted me saying that their wife had something available to offer. I've actually posted two different adds and they've contacted me twice without realizing I was the same person. They've made me the same offer under 2 different names. They've asked me money to see the house and to send them money by western union. When I've fist thought that they were trying to scam me I've tryied to conclude our mailings but then they called me and said that they were not trying to scam but after they told me about the western union issue I was sure they were scammers. I'm posting the email that made me understand that it was a scam.

Hello Ashley,
Thanks for your reply. I understand your message and i know you need to be careful when dealing with someone you haven't seen before or pay for what you haven't seen yet. More so, i would like you to know that i am not after your hard earn money. I have my own work and i earn enough money for my family.

However, it was unfortunate that my past bitter experience of inviting people to come and view or reserve my flat and not keeping up to time as at when scheduled, has brought about great loss to me. I currently work and live in Leicester and i would need to take a day off in order to come down to London and schedule for the viewing with you.

Some prospective tenants do not have the money to pay the rent and yet they disturb the landlord to arrange a viewing with their friend or relatives who lives in London also some do not meet up with the appointments which has led to the dismissal of some landlords in office by their employers.

Here in UK, private landlords are guided by law under the housing act. Private Landlords don't advertise what they don't have. The room in the photo is exactly what you are coming to see on your arrival to the flat. Nevertheless, i am willing to send my certificate of ownership which state that i am the owner of the flat.

Henceforth, my lawyer and i have decided to issue a contract to any prospective tenant and an advance payment must be made. Please let me know if you are willing to accept the contract and make an advance payment to secure the room. Otherwise, i would have to terminate the tenancy agreement and proceed with other intending tenant in order to avoid time wasting.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards Mrs Pearson
