Have I just faced with scam? I need your help

I went for the apartments viewing where I would like to move in. The thing which worried me was that the guy living in this apartments (not the actual owner, since its rental building) asked me to pay for the first and last month without signing any contract. He told me that he can give me a receipt. I don't know if its scam or not... I need your advice, please

Always make sure the person renting out to you is the owner of the home or someone professionally assisting the owner in renting out the home, or a rental agency ( an ACTUAL one) do not give any money without a signed contract between you and the owner. Be extremely careful with things like this, scam artists are called scam artists for a reason, they will always find a way around things and have an answer for everything and be extremely persuasive.
