Room for Rent and other rental scams

Hello, Im from Argentina and I am about to rent an apartment in Barcelona for one month in july/august but I dont know if I can trust the person who is renting it.
The thing is that Ive talk with the owner and he ansewered all my doubts, I should pay 2 months (one as security deposit), and he told me that we will use the service of DepositGuard and he will send me the keys of the apartment by DHL.

When I spoke with him, he seem to me a reliable person. I havent send him my personal information yet, I was going to do that tomorrow (he told me he was going to send me the invitation of DepositGuard, his info and a copy of his passport).

After I spoke with him I look up in Internet about rent scams and I realised that there are a lot of traitors that uses histories that are similar at the one he told me.

His history is that he bought the apartment for his doughter, but now she is living in USA so he is renting it, that he has health problems and he live in Manchester so he cant travel to Barcelona.
The same history or similar of all the cases of fraud Ive seen. The only thing that gives me some quiet is the use of DepositGuard system.

I hope you can help me, Im desperate.
Thank you very muh for your time, I look foward to hearing from you.
Regards
Carmina

Welcome to Scamwarners carmi_33,
This looks like a typical rental scam script to me. Please post the email where he mentions shipping the keys ( be sure to remove your personal information). Legitimate landlords will require a face to face meeting before handing over the keys to a rental property.

It is ALWAYS a scam
If the pet seller or shipper asks for money to be sent via Western Union, Money Gram, any brand of gift card. Walmart To Walmart , Zelle , PayPal friends and family option, or mentions Cameroon

This is a definite scam.

DepositGuard is a UK scheme that is only available to certain landlords. It is run by The Residential Landlords Association and the only website they use is rla.org.uk.

They do not hold deposits themselves - so no payment would be made to them by a tenant, they provide the required insurance allow member landlords to hold on to the deposit.

A property in Spain would not be eligible for this scheme and any deposit on that property would have to follow Spanish law.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.
