Two emails, same person, same story, different names,... I put an ad on a shared accomodation website and got an offer for an amazing appartment, rather cheap. But it was FAKE!!

About my apartment
It is a three bedroom apartment located at 329 Pitt St Sydney NSW 2000, Australia and as I live in one room of the apartment, i have two rooms ready for move in, the rooms are furnished with, dining table with expendable leaves with 4 matching chairs, television with digital receiver, telephone, parquet floors, and there is a window facing north. The apartment is wireless Internet enabled

You will have free and unlimited access to all part of the apartment, the Kitchen, the living room and of course except my room and you can also have your own visitors.The rent for the room is 600AUD Per Month and this includes the utility bills(all included) and you will be required to pay a security deposit of 800AUD. This security deposit will be refunded to you at the end of your stay in my apartment. I hope it suits you well and if you have any more questions you can surely ask me, I also attached the pictures of my flat and also the tenancy contract agreement so that we can conclude and you can eventually move in.

As you already noticed, the text describing the apartment is exactly the same in both emails. This is how the scammers generally work--using the same basic script, and just changing part of the details.

I'm glad you were able to avoid being scammed--hopefully your post will also help others to avoid being scammed. Please feel free to stop back and post other scam formats as you receive them (and odds are, unfortunately, that you will receive others), and don't hesitate to ask if you are uncertain about a response you receive.

And in Singapore also. Here is the mail, my response and reply. Now it appears the husband, not the father, has passed away.

I'm not going to push any further, can see the scam taking shape - payments to be made etc. There is even a phone number in the last reply. I am very tempted to report this to the UK authorities.

If you ever have doubts you could try doing some searches on the email you received, on that first email posted above there is this line'

"My apartment is a beautifully furnished unit Featuring 2 good size"

I did an exact search on that line using Google and found we have another post here with much the same wording, it's here viewtopic.php?p=24026#p24026

You will not always find answers by googling the details of the email but in many cases you will, of course, if you have doubts you can also ask us.

I almost fell victim to a scammer... this one was that "[email protected]" charactr already mentioned. The sad thing is they sent an almost identical email to me! the more I communicated with this person (to the point of receivin a contract.. by email ofcourse... by this persons "lawyer") the stronger my gut feeling became.. I did a websearch and found this site... thanks guys! the first two emails sent to me were as follows:

Hey, i was victim of this person, Yet Hay Yeo. Unforutnatelly he/she took of me 1500 dollars for a rental in Sydney. I made a 2 and a half months negociation and was quite sure she/he was honest, until figure lots of akward things.

It wasnt my first time renting places around the world, so i got badly surprise to be a naive victim. Id like to change e-mail you whoever can help me to try to avoid this kind of crime. Id also want advices about what to do, cause i really want to talk to police and try to stop this absurd thing.
