Thank you for your interest in my apartment located in 738 - 3 Ave SW, T2P 0G7. The apartment is in excellent condition and it's just like in the pictures, very clean and very well taken. Honestly from point of view I'm sure that you will rent it on spot. I'm not looking to make a business or a profit with the apartment, I'm just trying to find a good and trust person to take good care of the place. It is furnished but if you want you can use your furniture and deposit mine in the storage unit that is located near the building not far away. The rent is 860 CAD/month with everything included (heat, hydro, water, electricity, cable and internet-full package, 2 parking spots, laundry in-suite, washer and dryer). You will have full access to all the amenities of the building. Pets are allowed. I stayed in the apartment with my wife for 3 months. I'm a civil engineer and I work for a company that has an auction for a project in construction in London, United Kingdom, so my accommodation period in United Kingdom will be about 4 years. Everything in the apartment is new so there will be no need for repairs.

This person asks for a deposit payment via Western Union, MoneyGram, pre-paid credit card or bank transfer with a promise that you can have the keys to a property that does not belong to him.

Sounds safe. It's not!

At other times, he will ask for proof that you are able to pay the deposit and rent due to a string of time wasters.
This proof is in the form of a Western Union or MoneyGram payment to a lawyer,a friend or family member.

In either case, if payment is made and you give this person the details, they will collect the money.
You will not hear from them again.

All the details such as names, addresses, pictures etc. that the scammer uses in order to back up his story, are stolen from elsewhere.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Craigslist, Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.

First of all i'm sorry to write you in english but i don't speak german. I just read your e-mail regarding my apartment located in : Neubaugasse 63, 8020 Graz . It has 2 rooms : 1 bedroom , 1 living room, 1 bathroom, 1 kitchen (43m2 ).
I bought this apartment for my daughter during her studies in Austria, but now she's back home permanently, so I'm renting the place for unlimited time.
Before we go any further I would like to know a little something about you, like how many persons you intend to live in the apartment, and for how long.
The flat is exactly like in the pictures, furnished and renovated. The utilities (cold/hot water, electricity, wireless broadband Internet, digital TV , dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, washing machine, etc.) are included in the price of rent ,you will have one parking spot , the rent is 350 EUR/mont . The kaution is EUR 1000,00, and you get it back, when you decide to leave the apartment (you will have to give me at least 30 days notice). As for me, you can rest assured that I will never ask you to leave the apartment. My daughter is building her life here, and i am too old to move to Austria, so we won't disturb you.
You can use my furniture, or you can also use your own if you prefer. If you decide to use yours, you will have access to a very large and well ventilated cellar, where you can store my furniture.
Now, a little bit about myself so we can get to know each other better. My name is Rachel Wiggins and I'm a 58 years old graphic designer from London /United Kingdom, planning to retire in the next 2 years.
I have a lovely husband, Erik and a 25 year old daughter, Linda. I am very proud to say that soon I'm going to be a grandmother :). Another member of our family is a 8 year old Labrador which we all love, so, I have no problem if you will keep pets.
The only inconvenience is that my job doesn't allow me to leave London even for one single day. We just hired some new staff and I'm in charge of their training.
But this won't affect you at all. I can make arrangements to rent the apartment from London (on my expense of course).

I am not interested to make a lot of money from the rent as I am interested to find a tenant that will take goof care of the property . After this email I asked her to give me her telephone number but she answered like this:
Dear Lorenzo ,

I want to inform you that REMAX will hold the money until you will confirm to them that you like the apt and keep the keys. If you don't like it, you only have to return the keys to them after they will refund the money to you and they will deliver the keys back to me on my expense.
I will need to inform you the steps about how this service works and how we can make it happen. You will only have to deposit first month of rent + security deposit - 1350 EUR to REMAX Service - so they can proceed with the shipping, and you can receive the keys and the contract.
Like I said, I will pay for a 2 days delivery so you will receive the Keys and the contract signed by me right away. I will explain to you step by step how this will work:
1 - To start this transaction i will need to know your full shipping information, full name, full shipping address and phone number to proceed with this deal .
2 - I go to the REMAX Office and leave the Keys and the contract in your name as the intended receiver.
3 - REMAX will check the envelope to see if everything is OK with it and also the legal papers that will come along with the Keys.
4 - REMAX will send you a delivery notification to let you know they have the Keys and the papers in their custody, in which you will be told that they have the Keys and that they checked it.
5 - At this point you will have to go to your Bank and make a money transfer deposit on the REMAX Company in UK assigned with this transaction for the amount we agreed.

Actually I don't know what to think, the offer looks too good to miss, but at the same time I have a weird feeling. If there is anybody here that can help to understand if it's a scam or not I would be very grateful.

It is a definite scam, as detailed in Michelle's post.

No legitimate landlord would require you to send money anywhere just to be able to get the keys to view the property. A real landlord would make arrangements with a local agent to show the property to prospective tenants.

If you can't physically view the inside of the property without having to send money then it is a scam.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

I just got e-mail from the same address [email protected]
He advertises a luxury condo for rent in downtown Toronto at 770 BAY ST. for a very low price of $1150 , this add came up several times for last week on different rental search websites. I sent him e-mail a week ago, in the rental add he asked to contact him directly at [email protected] which was a red flag for me right away, but I decided to check it out anyway. Within that week he reposted his add 4 times and each time he asked to contact him directly at different HOTMAIL addresses with different names (not very smart dude hehehe)
So finally I got this email today from GMAIL account with a different name on it.

As I told you before the rent for 1 month will be 860CAD and damage deposit 860CAD ( last month) with no extra fees and you will have full access to all the amenities of the building. The price will not increase for the whole period that you will stay there. I would also like to know how many people will live in the apartment and also which rental contract do you prefer- 6 months or 1 year rental contract with option of renewal. The monthly payments can be wired to my Canadian Bank Account (TD Bank) or we can setup a payment method that is suitable for both of us.

The apartment is in excellent condition, you only need to receive the keys and the contract so you could check it out, and see if you like it. Since at this moment I'm in London, United Kingdom and obviously we need a safe way to complete this deal.The solution is a worldwide third party company called Airbnb (www.airbnb.com) ,they will provide assistance in handling the payment and delivery of the rental package

We use this company to see that you are an trusting and serious person. They will provide assistance in handling the payment and delivery of the rental package .
