The thief will tell you that you can rent his accommodation only if you can prove that you have genuine interest. He will ask you send money by wire transfer (normally Western Union) to yourself or a member of the family to show that you have sufficient finances and that you are not a "time waster".

Another variation of this scam is that you need to send money (again via Western Union) in order that the keys and other documents can be couriered to you

He will ask you to send him the transfer details.

Make no mistake ! Western Union Transfers can be picked up virtually anywhere in the world and with the minimum of identification. They are almost impossible to trace once the money has been collected. You will never get to see the accommodation or your money again.

If you are reading this because you are looking for property to rent, and you are in contact with this thief you are probably searching Gumtree or similar listing sites. If you receive any requests from 'Landlords' asking for some kind of payment by Western Union before viewing, then it will also be a scam. Please forward the mail to me at the address in my signature line and I will investigate and list them if necessary.

I received the same email today. It seemed way too good and I decided to google his email address. Was so glad that I found this website.

Hello guys,
I also got an email from Mr.Baldrey because I'm looking for an apartment in Richmond (CANADA).
Then looking on this forum I discovered that Mr.Bardley has got also an apartment in Mississauga (perhaps).
So, I tried to call Mr.Bardley's phone (perhaps should be a mobile number) +44 770 002 2862 but this number is disconnected. Last but not the least he asked first for $350 only then $700 and when we have complained Mr.Bardley without hesitation said, "OK, OK $ 350 is good ..."

In conclusion I really think there is something strange and I cannot trust him.

Then looking on this forum I discovered that Mr.Bardley has got also an apartment in Mississauga (perhaps).

The person writing to you calling himself Pastor Steven Baldrey is not a Canadian minister. He is an African man who has probably never been to Canada or UK, and he made up the name or copied it from a real person. He owns NO buildings. He makes his living scamming people out of their money by convincing them to pay deposits to rent apartments he does not own.

There are lots of scammers doing the exact same thing. Do not send money to any person who claims he is out of the country and will mail you the keys, and do not believe any apartment offer that involves you sending money by Western Union to ANYONE, even if the person asks you to send money to a friend or a family member. These are all scams!

A legitimate apartment owner who is out of the country will have a local representative who is handling the rental of the apartment, and you will be able to meet this representative in person without paying any money in advance.

Thanks friend. I'll follow your suggestion but anyway now I must find an apartment because I have alredy the flight ticket in my hand. I'll try to contact with some travel agency in Vancouver or Richmond to directly talk with them.
If you have others idea, please let me know.

Hi, My fiance and i were looking on craigslist for an apt and came across a nice one for really cheap.... but low and behold i also got the same emails from this guy telling me he was renting out his apartment for $500 with everything included. I knew it was toooooo good to be true. So i googled his name and this site came up. Take a look.
