I believe Patel Pratik has now changed his name to John Kelly Whales and they may be pseudonyms by the same person aka Rev.

Patel Pratik is STILL using the same trick. Please be advised that many do not have the sense in their moment of excitement over getting a bargain rental to even google for his name! I received a e-mail from him, felt suspicious, and forwarded it to 10 of my friends. Only ONE (excluding myself) had the sense to google his name. Others told me they felt he sounded suspicious but some agreed that there will still be people who will be pursuaded.

Now, I received another e-mail of similar style to Patel Pratik under this new name (Patel and Rev's story are alike!): Subject: One-bedroom apartment

Thanks for the mail,my apartment is still very much available for rent.Here are some important information about the apartment. I am glad you spotted this as a scam without losing any money, well done.

One simple way for us to see that it's a scam is the phone number they use, 4470 numbers are a UK redirect service used by scammers to appear to be in the UK. UK redirect phone numbers can be set up by anybody from anywhere in the world, when you call these numbers they redirect to whichever phone the owner likes from anywhere in the world, for somebody who actually was in the UK they would have no need for one of these numbers but for a scammer in Africa its another way to look like they are legimate, ironically its the first thing we use to tell that it's a scam.

I recommend you go look at the place on Google street images. :=)

Anyone not making their own checks on places they are going to spend money renting is just asking to get ripped off.

If I get time I'll post up the picture.

It's not so much the scaffolding, which may not be there any more, but the graffiti all over the place and the emergency medical centre and Afghan Brasserie close by suggests that this may not be the oasis of peace and tranquility the scammer suggests, but then he won't have a clue about anything, apparent from his poor English skills and unusual errors in his mail.

As Ralph says, you shouldn't touch it the minute you see the 44 70 number. There's no reason for anyone to use one other than to hide their location or identity. Next will come payment by Western Union, but if you spotted the first sign you won't need to waste your time getting to the final 'red light' warning.

This is the third message from him, where he asks for my passport details:

This is the point when I got very suspicions and thanks to a friend of mine, I decided to google up the phone number and the text that he posts. I came to your website and I am very thankful.

After that, I decided, and I think I still will go on with this until I find that guy and literally cut his head off - so I play the game and give him some false details to see what happens! This is his reply again:

Hello.I have forwarded your information to the lawyer and the contract agreement would be ready in 30 minutes.When ready,i would send it to you so that you can go through carefully and sign and then get back to me with the signed copy with the payment receipt.

This whole thing has been going on today and I am now waiting for his made up contract.

My question to all is for help! Does anyone think that we can con (scam) this guy ourselves and supposedly finally capture him and give him to the police before someone less inquisitive decides to follow his crazy instructions. Any suggestions and ideas are welcome - I am still playing the game (it's the 23 July 2010 now and I have been in contact since the begining of the day!) - and I will continue until there is enough info to get that guy!

Additionally, he posted the following pictures as well, so if you see them yourselves DO NOT PROCEED - it is obviously the same scam. Unfortunately I don't know how to paste them here, so if you tell me, I would gladly do it.

Anyways, I would be grateful for your help! I go on to see what happens.

Make sure you get back to me with the senders name, senders address, exact amount sent and the 10 digits MTCN. You can also send me a scanned copy of the western union receipt. I will email you the tracking number for the shipment as soon as it is sent. Once i receive the payment confirmation from you today, i will go ahead with the shipment. i am also happy to have your phone number as it will be needed by DHL when they are about to make the delivery of the keys to you.

v. Play or allow to be played any radio, television, record or tape recording or musical instrument so loudly that it causes a nuisance or annoyance to the other party.
(b) Use of Premises: The Tenant agrees to use the premises for residential purposes and not to operate a business at the premises nor to use the premises for any illegal purposes.
(c) Pets: The Tenant agrees not to keep any animals on the premises without the prior written permission of the Landlord.

12. SOLE AGREEMENT: The parties hereby agree that this document contains the entire agreement between the parties and this Agreement shall not be modified, changed, altered or amended in any way except through a written amendment signed by all of the parties hereto. Thanks for posting these scam emails! I am pretty sure that the scammer will never send you any keys, even if you really paid the money. What you're doing now is what we call 'scambaiting'. Scambaiting is something that isn't covered on this forumboard, but if you pay a visit to our sister site: 419eater.com then you can read all about baiting these criminals.

I've been looking for a room in Geneva for the past few weeks and I've sent lots of messages to lots of people hoping to find something that fits my budget. I was so excited when I got a couple emails, telling me about the appartment, even including photos of some of them. Besides the bad english they were written in, I noticed that all of the owners were for some reason located in a country other than Switzerland. And the messages were very similar in format, with almost luxurious facilities included in the rent. It was kinda obvious it was too good to be true. Anyway, now I have several messages from these people, I haven't replied to any of them yet. I was thinking though, maybe I could write back and try to screw these guys over a bit, just tell them I sent the money somewhere else than they requested and make them travel for nothing or something. Scambaiting as it's called in the trade, and you'll find more about it next door at www.419eater.com. It has to be done safely as you're dealing with criminals. Never ever bait from your real life email address.

Contract and emails were exactly the same as posted before. So I do not need to post it all again. Please be warned by this scam name and do not contact this person. Although this offer he has posted is very appealing it is just fake and not everything that glitters is gold.

I have been scammed on a rental property for Amsterdam the link is as below for all those out there.

This was also the case of the rest of the rental agreements but he has got very clever in his ways, he is also using a passport and he is also has a Yahoo profile.

I am not sure what one can undertake against this person as he has also used the phone number as like everyone else 00447045743701
