by jennifer81 Sat Oct 25, 2008 7:32 am
I got this email job offer alot lately, coz i was trying to get aupair/nanny job for my sister. Most of them from UK and USA,and most of the family is single parent.I really want to make sure myself if this is scam or not, anyone has the same experience with me?

You need to quote one of the emails for a definite answer, but it's likely. Is the sender offering employment without even meeting the applicant in person? Would any parent do that?
If a scammer claims to be from the USA or UK, they probably aren't. Do the emails read as if written by someone whose first language is English?

by jennifer81 Sat Oct 25, 2008 8:56 am
it is very easy, they just give you the job.in some email i found they have grammar mistake here and there.as i read in other post in this forum, they have the same procedure that they ask you to contact their travel agency to make visa and other document you need.

by Crispy Duck Sat Oct 25, 2008 11:46 am
Welcome, jennifer :)

Yes - it is 100% scam. As you have noticed, they require you to send them money for visa etc & arrange travel through [i]their[/b] travel agents.

It would be helpful if, as suggested above, you would post a sample of the email & the email address of the sender. That way, should anyone search for text or the email, they will find us & not be scammed. :D

by jennifer81 Sat Oct 25, 2008 12:04 pm
that was send by [email protected]

by Crispy Duck Sat Oct 25, 2008 12:16 pm
Thanks, jennifer.

The phone number given (+447031979779) is NOT a UK number - it is (like all +44 70xxxxxxx numbers) a redirect to anywhere - usually a mobile in West Africa somewhere. There is no "4.woodpecker close" in Cobham, Surrey, The salary quoted is extremely high (I do not believe they would pay £32,000 pa as a salary + £800 per week as 'Pocket Fee').

As you noticed, the English grammar is poor ('Air-Conditional'?) plus many other indicators that correct English is not his usual language. A letter signed 'Mr. Joe & family' is hardly convincing either. The 'travel Agency' would not use a free webmail address ([email protected]).

If you could find & post the headers from this email, we would be able to tell which country it was sent from - but I am sure it was not sent from England.

Well done for spotting it as a scam. :=)

As best as I can tell, those IP addresses resolve to the United States. They're probably not originating there, but who knows.

More importantly, some of the text of the introduction letter can be found here: http://www.4nannies.com/info/Nanny-Scams.cfm

The words "I am a very dedicated individual who is totally committed to human development, friendly, very trustworthy.", if you copy and paste them into an internet search, come up with over 200 hits. That text is mostly used by rental and love-scammers, as seen at HERE , HERE , and HERE .

You did well in sniffing this one out. :)

Got a suspicious e-mail? Run it by The Scam Checklist to see if it's real.

Notice the end of the email, "for quick action" scammers are always in a hurry

And email 3 is below, I have removed some of the excess spaces just to make it a little easier to read

Dear Au pair,

We are David and Monika Smith from Carlsbad, California, in the United States of America.

We have two energetic but delightful children age 5 and 7; their names are April and Michael. We had a very wonderful relationship with our previous Au pair who had to leave due to take care of her sick mother back home.

I am a physiotherapist, and very much engaged with my work but do enjoy going for leisurely walks in the parks with my children. Monika my wife is the head nurse at the city hospital, with a very busy work schedule.

Michael and April are both at a nearby school, and do not require too much attention in the evenings which means that you are free to enjoy these free time as you so wish.

You can enjoy the Californian sun on one of the many beautiful beaches just a short drive away from our home during your off days off. We also have a summer house by the lake which we shall like you to spend some time with us in.

We would like a nanny or Au pair who shall fit in with our busy lifestyle and would enjoy their time with us, as we are a honest and God fearing family. If we sound like your kind of family and you are looking for a job with a start date of on or before the first day of December 2008, then:

Please email us at: [email protected]

Dear xxxxxxx,

Thanks for your mail , we do appreciate it .

* Tax free allowance of $370 per week
* Free food and accommodation in a single
* Up to U.S. $ 500 for English language training courses
* Airfare

* 1.5 days per week Leisure

* 2 weeks paid vacation

These are the steps to be undertaken before you resume work as our family Au pair:

- You shall email us your CV .

-A verbal job interview shall be conducted by phone to enable voice authentication.

We are looking for someone who is mature, warm, friendly, outgoing, positive, creative, respectful, and close to her own family. Yes, Jennifer - this too is a scam. A Google search of the address 23 Hawley Crescent, Camden Town, London, NW1 8NP shows it is used in many scams.

Again, the telephone number +44.703 187 74223 is a 'redirect to anywhere' number & NOT a UK number at all.

If you reply to this email, you will - at some stage - be asked to send money for a visa, contact their travel agent etc.

No legitimate employer is going to make you an offer by email or offer you employment without a face to face meeting or interview.

by Holly Brown Thu Oct 30, 2008 5:44 pm
Jennifer, it looks as though this scammer has done some research and some copying and pasting. He probably found a real ad for an au pair and copied it into his email for you. His English skills go downhill in the parts he wrote himself, although since they are mixed in with the copied bits, they are not as noticeable.

As you have been advised above, you will not be hired sight-unseen from the internet. A genuine parent wishing for an au pair will be just as cautious as you should be, and they should want a face-to-face meeting.

And you can get your own visa from the British Embassy in your country. ;)

thx

by jennifer81 Thu Oct 30, 2008 6:11 pm
yes,i was an aupair while back, and I know how things works with documents and stuff. But I got all the family without face to face interview,we sent email, message or they call me on my cellphone.
They do send me money for airplane ticket, because face to face gonna be really hard since i live in Indonesia(during that time) and the family located in Europe mostly.
