Scams offering fake Au Pair positions
by Chris Fuller Sat Jun 04, 2011 1:16 am
This is not a genuine au pair opportunity; it is a scam. This paragraph:

We have had an Au pair before and it was wonderful, she had to leave because of her mother's medical condition. Our child is so much fun and this age is adorable! You will have the chance to really impact his life since he is so impressionable now. We are only interested in hiring someone who is willing to work in the UK.

is used by many scammers. You can see a few examples here:

Donald Scott
Allen Moore
Phillyps Davidson

You will also notice that this scammer is using a telephone number which begins with +44 70. This number, like all numbers which begin with +44 70 (sometimes written as +44 070), is not a normal UK telephone number. It is a 'redirect' number, redirecting all calls to a mobile phone somewhere else in the world. You can read more about these types of numbers here:

Hello usuario86, I'm glad that you were alert and noticed the two different names that were used.

Often an au pair scammer registers at a website using their prefered fake host family name for their profile, but they are recognised as a scammer and their profile is removed. They might then re-register a profile with a different fake family name - but still use the pre-written message which they had planned to use with the original profile, which had a different family name.

Some au pair scammers use the personal message (PM) facility for their first message/s; and others - especially those who have paid for full membership and who have access to au pairs' email addresses - will email from the start.
by usuario86 Tue Sep 20, 2011 10:10 am
yes, unfortunately we have to be very alert that is full of scammers, but thanks to you and we are we can get doubts and not be deceived.
Thank you very much for all the answers and help.
I posted a post about Mr. Jason Richard Baldwin and to find an answer here, so thank you very much for everything! Greetings to the team. Daniela. :oh-joy:

Glad to have found this website... I got this same message from this "John Williams", answered that I was interested at first but was having some health issues that would keep me in my country for God knows how long, and that I would write again whenever I had it solved to see if the offer was still available... 10 minutes later his response is already there, saying:

"Dear Au pair ,

I have received your message and we are glad that you could write us.

I have received your application and we hope that our communication
would be a fruitful one.

I have decided to find an Au pair because we need help looking after
my child. I am looking for an Au pair to be a big sister or brother to
my child.

I has decided to disable our profile on www.Aupairplacement.com since
we found your profile and wish to stop communication with intending Au
pairs.

So kindly send your resume so that i can prepare our contract letter
immediately okay.

We shall be undertaking the costs of your Flight Ticket and travel
documents. Accommodation and feeding shall be provided by us. All
these details and other information about our contract offer shall be
sent to you in the approved contract letter once we receive it from
the Home Office Authorities. Would like your necessary travel
requirement procured soon.

I have filed the necessary inquiries on how to go about employing you
from the UK Home Office here and I shall be sending you the
information once I have received it, hence wait for update and travel
guidance/instructions so that you do not make any mistake.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Mr Williams."

His desperate answer smelled bad to me, specially because I made it clear I was not available right away... and so that's when I though of googling it to see if there was anything related... lucky to have found this! Thanks!

Also, there's this other message sent to my email through the Aupairplacement site, too, right after this "John's" one, which now makes me wonder if it's a scam, too.. this other one was sent by a "Dr. Green", and it goes like this:

"Hello Au pair,

We are an easygoing couple with a happy, fun, and healthy kid. We are looking for an Au pair who can take good care of our only child. Clifford our son 3 years of age is so much fun and this age is adorable!

My name is Dr Harrison Green and I am 46 years old and a doctor at London bridge Hospital UK . My spouse Julie thirty three years old is a fashion designer. We are only interested in hiring someone who is willing to work in the UK. We shall provide fully furnished live in or live out accommodation. Write us soonest with your picture/resume, introduction and how soon you can start as we need a Au pair that can start as soon as possible.

You can contact us via email - [email protected] or call me on +447024052801 or give me a direct mobile number to reach you with so that we can discuss further.

Best Regards
Green family."

Although I didn't see this name (Dr. Green) here as a scammer, some of the parts of the email are exactly the same as the ones posted here, and there's this telephone number which now seems a little suspect (4470...) what do you think?

Well, thanks, again, for this site and all the help, and if there's any orientation on what's best to do, please let me know (reporting to the aupairplacement website, writting him back to let he knows I'm already aware of him and his scamming- or not)...

Best wishes!
Bia

Hello Bia, and welcome to ScamWarners.

Yes, Harrison Green is a scammer too. You can read about this here:

viewtopic.php?f=42&t=19148

You are correct: all telephone numbers which begin +4470 are suspicious. They are not normal UK numbers, but redirect numbers. This scammer has used the telephone number +447024052801 in other scams too; you can see this here:

viewtopic.php?f=42&t=21269

Just stop all contact with the scammer - yes, he already knows that he is a scammer (!), and it is best that he does not know that he is publicized here, in case that prompts him to change his email address - and then our warnings about him would become out-of-date.

If you report him to the au pair website, they will undoubtedly remove his profile - but then he would simply register a new and different profile, with a different fake name. And, again, our warnings about him would become out-of-date.
by bia_luca Mon Sep 26, 2011 11:07 am
Well, thanks again for the orientation on how to proceed, and I will keep to it, not reporting and just ignoring emails.

All the best,
Bia.
