Hi Fatcat and welcome to Scamwarners

Thank you for posting about this scammer.

I take it you are from that site, perhaps you could tell our visitors how many scammers you find on your site and the steps you take to warn your users about scams.

As you would know, when you delete a scammers advertisement or profile, he will rejoin or readvertise almost immediately so educating those legitimate people who use your site is the best way to control the scammers

Hello

No problem with the pets.
The apartment is ready for you you will need only to receive the keys and the contract to check it and see if you like it. Obviously we need a way to complete this deal that will allow us to make sure we receive what we are after. In order of that I have found a way for us to complete the deal safely and fast and in this way you will receive the Keys in less than 2 days The solution is provided by a company called DHL which is similar to FedEx TNT or UPS which will handle both payment and delivery of the Keys. I have found a procedure that will allow you to pay for the rent of the apartment after you will receive the keys of it and through this way you will see it and decide if you will stay in the apt or not before I receive my payment.
I will need to inform you the steps about how this service works and how we can make it happen. You will only have to deposit to DHL Service the month of fianza and one month rent(1000 EUR) so they can proceed with the shipping and you can receive the keys and the contract. Like I said I will pay for a 2 days delivery so you will receive the Keys and the contract signed by me right away.
I will explain to you step by step how this will work:
1 - To start this transaction I will need to know your full shipping name a=
nd address to proceed with this deal.
2 - I go to the DHL Office and leave the Keys and the contract in your name as the intended receiver.
3 - DHL will check the envelope to see if everything is OK with it and also the legal papers that will come along with the Keys.
4 - DHL will send you a delivery notification to let you know they have the Keys and the papers in their custody.
5 - At this point you will have to go and make a money transfer deposit on the DHL agent name assigned with this transaction.
6 - After you make the deposit you will have to send the infos about the money deposit to DHL (MTCN= sender's name and address).
7 - DHL will verify the payment information and if everything is ok they will deliver the Keys and the contract to you.
8 - After you receive the package You will go and check the apartment and in 2 days you must contact them and tell them if you keep the apartment or not if everything is in order you will instruct DHL to release the funds to me. If you don't like the apartment they will send your money back and you will send them the keys and the contract to return the package back to me on my expense.
Now I must know for sure if you agree because here are a lot of peoples interested to have this apartment rented and I want to know for sure what I must tell them. If you agree what i suggested i will tell them that my apartment is already rented and i will keep it for you. If you agree then I must have all the shipping details so I will be able to make all the arrangements for the DHL delivery.
Thanks and wait news from you!
Thank you
PS:You need to send the payment to the name and address of the DHL agent not to DHL Company.DHL has nothing to do with Western Union.

Hi Sonja

Sorry for the delay in replying,

To put it simply, yes, its a scam, I am glad you asked us about it and hopefully you haven't paid any money yet.

I dont have a huge amount of time now but a few indicators of the scam;

You are asked to use Western Union
There is a shipping company involved
Lots of promises about getting your money back
The need to pay money before actually receiving anything
Not being able to deal with somebody face to face.

I could list a lot more warning signs from that email but I have something else I need to tend to for the moment.

Please do not make any further contact, ignore any emails or attempts by these people to contact you and be extremely careful with any emails you may receive as the same scammers may attempt some more scams on you now that they know a little about you

If you do have any questions, please dont hesitate to ask
by sonjamerx Thu Apr 22, 2010 8:21 am
No he says that it is not western union but DHL
The reason I have to send money is because i'm going to rent his appartment in Hamburg, he is going to send the key and contract of the appartment.
And DHL is a good firm no????
Where is the IP adresse listed??? (what country???)
by Dotti Thu Apr 22, 2010 9:37 am
after you make the deposit you will have to send the infos about the money deposit to DHL (MTCN= sender's name and address).

MTCN= Money Transfer Control Number = Western Union

DHL is the shipping company he claims has the keys. It is a legitimate company, but they aren't involved.
Western Union is how he will want you to send the money to the "DHL agent" who is really your scammer or an accomplice of his.

DHL is a shipping company, not an escrow service (which is essentially what he is describing)
-They do not act as an intermediary between the shipper and the receiver.
-They do not review the contents of packages.
-They do not hold money for senders or receivers.
-They do not take payments by Western Union.

It is possible that he will go so far as to use a phished shipping account to set up a phony shipment in your name. This is only done to make the scam see more authentic. There are no keys, and he does not own an apartment.

From the DHL Website:
DHL does not request payments, financial information, account numbers, passwords, or other confidential information through the use of e-mail. DHL does not accept responsibility for any costs or charges incurred as a result of fraudulent activity.

If you receive a request to transfer money for goods which are said to be currently in transport with DHL, via an e-mail as described, or should there be any doubt as to the authenticity of any DHL communication, please report it to DHL by contacting DHL Customer Service via e-mail from the global DHL web site, http://www.dhl.com, or phone Customer Service at the telephone number published on the DHL web site for your country (country web site addresses available through http://www.dhl.com).

THANK YOU VERY MUCH I FEEL SO STUPID FIRST THE AUPAIR SCAM AND NOW THE APPARTMENT SCAM WHY DOES IT HAPPEN TO ME WITH 2 DIFFERENT THINGS ARE THEY TRACKING ME?????
by Dotti Thu Apr 22, 2010 1:48 pm
There is no reason to feel stupid. Just because you aren't familiar with Western Union, DHL, and scammer tactics doesn't mean that you are stupid at all. Chances are you have never used Western Union or DHL before, and the scammer was counting on that.

You knew enough to check it out, and that is what is important.

Are you being specifically targeted? I can't say for certain. If you have sent money to a scammer before, or if a scammer almost convinced you something was real, you may be receiving additional scams because you were identified as a potential likely victim. However, job scams (with au pair at the top of the list) and apartment scams are some of the most common right now, and it is not unusual to get dozens of scam responses to a single job posting or apartment posting--so it could be as simple as that. The important thing to know is that you should always do your research, and don't hesitate to come back here and ask at any time you are in doubt.

Sonja, as Dotti said, your not stupid at all, you had the good sense to ask us and avoid being scammed.

If you have any other emails from this person please do post them here, by doing so you have a good chance of helping somebody else avoid being scammed.

You did ask about the IP address and where it leads to, before I give you the answer I wanted to explain why I got the result I did.

There are many scammers who have mastered the art of IP manipulation so when an IP comes up somewhere other than where we expect it be, it still does'nt mean that is where the scammer is actually from. In this case the IP resolved to Hamburg but I dont believe that is where they are from.

Goodmorning,
No I know i'm not stupid but it feels like it maybe i'm a bit naieve.
i will post all the emails he wrote to me below:

Hello
Thank you for your interest.
My name is David Borcherding ,I inherited the apartment from my father in 2007. I never lived in that apartment because my mother and father were divorced and I was raised by my mother in London, United Kingdom.I renovate the apartment and I tried to sell it but I couldn't get a fair price for it so I decided together with my mother to rent it to some nice people.
I would appreciate a tenant who would keep the house in a good condition.
I can rent you the flat for 5 years, and, if after the five years you would like to stay more, then we can extend the contract. I can also rent it for shorter periods (2 months minimum). The photos are actual and real.
The rent for 1 month is 400 EUR + bills estimated at 100EUR.
Just to mention few, it includes:
(cold/hot water, electricity, wireless Internet, digital TV, parking, air conditioning, dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, refrigerator, washing machine),all bills.
The caution is 500EUR, and you get it back, when you decide to leave the apartment (with a 10 days notice)
An advance payment of one month shall be paid and security deposit (1000 EUR).
You can use my furniture, or you can use your own. You have access to a large cellar, very spacious and well ventilated where you can store any unnecessary pieces of furniture. Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
You can move in the flat, immediately after you receive the keys and the contract.
I have the keys here in England so i must find a safe way of getting them to you so you can view the apartment..
I have a good solution to that, so, if this is interesting for you so far, please let me know.
Regards
