heya...im just posting for clearing a few things...im a scambaiter my self and iv'e been baiting mostly au-pair and employment scams.i've also been an au-pair for a year in germany (malenanny :laugh-s: ) and i know few things about it. here are two facts about sallary and the working visa thingies if you are an eu-citizen:

1)sallary most definetly is not more than 200-500euros/pounds a month meaning like 50-120euros/pounds a week.
2) if you are an eu-citizen you dont need a working permanent in a country that's a part of the eu (not even in the uk). and even in other countries au-pairing is not concidered to be "real work" its just more like being there, learning the language and assiting the family.

Hi Dragonsoul

Thank you for the explanation.

As to the average pay for an au pair you are completely right but we tend to steer away from stating those figures to avoid a scammer finding them and using them as a guide in their scams.

I will discuss this in PM with some of the other mods and we may edit your post accordingly
by dragonsoul1 Mon Jan 11, 2010 9:15 am
okey sorry for posting that info...ive seen a few other posts here aswell that state the real sallary of an au-pair...i get your point what you mean by editing my post but that is one of the most obvious signs that its a scam...allmost like the +44 70 number in uk employment scams...this is just my opinion...trying to help people you know ?
and ofcourse the family never asks you to pay anything via moneygram or western union.

No need to be sorry Dragon

Your advice is spot on and it is something we do want victims to be aware of but we did discuss this once before and at the time agreed not to go into too much detail about the pay rates.

It is no problem that you have posted, we will rediscuss and see if we come to the same conclusion

Hi, I have received emails off a potential scammer for au pair work
his 2nd email is:
Hello Dear,
Thank you very much for the mail i was very excited to hear from you,i hope the salary is ok for you and the pocket fees is for you and my son so that he does not lack anything while you are taking care of him...and also i have been in contact with the Embassy regarding the processing of your traveling documents and they told me that you will need to forward this information:
Full Name:
Address:
Tell:
Passport:
And also a fee of 1500 Pounds for the processing and delivery of your Visa so let me know what you have in mind ok.and hope you do not mind starting the processing now so by july you just move over.

He offered to pay $4500 a month and $850 a week- this seems to be a lot of money.
Is this a scam?

Welcome to scamwarners.com Tatty32

As Dottie hurriedly mentioned - it is a scam.

I have seen those very same words a thousand times before.

You say that this the the second mail from the scammer. He is enticing you with a very attractive wage but then mentions the fact that you have to pay for a visa upfront.

This is where the scam starts. You will be asked to pay for the visa by Western Union or some other money transfer service, which will be untraceable once it has been collected. (make no mistake - you will never get to see the visa or your money again).

If you are taken in by the scam and send money for a visa I can assure you that the scammer will soon be back onto you telling you that there is a complication, and find some sort of excuse for you to send more money.

Please post the entire e-mail, including the scammers e-mail address, so that other potential victims may find it if they are searching for the details.

Well done to you for taking the time to research the job offer.

Thank you for adding the first e-mail.

This will alert anyone searching for the scammers e-mail address.
by Dotti Sun Jan 24, 2010 11:17 am
Ouch. This script looks like it was written by a 13 year old scammer.
taking the kid to school

"the kid" has a name, and a real parent who is concerned enough about his child to hire an au pair would use it and not refer to him as "the kid."
And he is supposed to be 3... this kid must be really advanced to be in school already, as real school doesn't start until children are around 5.

It also contains just about every English mistake African writers make. He counts on the fact that the people receiving this email are not American, and English is a 2nd language to many of them.

Unfortunately, in the first 3 lines it is already clear it is a scam. It was definitely written by an African, not an American.

A quick google of one of the unique lines showed that some or all of this letter was also posted as an ad in Craigslist. That ad has already been removed for TOS violations (someone already reported it to Craigslist as a scam). If this was a legitimate job offer and he wanted you, why would he be posting ads on Craigslist?

Also note this ad I just found on a Pakistan job site:

Are you seeking or offering? : I am offering
Address : # 43 Streatfeild Avenue, London, E6 2JZ
City : streatfield
Salary : 2400 pounds per month

I hope my mail meets you in good state of health... I am George Sipmson, 40 years of age from United Kingdom. I am a Consultant Contractor and I reside at # 43 Streatfeild Avenue, London, E6 2JZ , U.K. As part of the information you may require, I have a 2 years old wonderful and interesting son and a niece. Due to the nature of my work and the unexpected transfer of my wife to Portugal, I hardly have time for my lovely Kids which prompted an idea of seeking a babysitter/Nanny.

Oh my goodness! This is yet a second scam e-mail which I have got during my search for au pair family. And I started at the beginning of January..This makes me frightened. Luckily I made some research of the names, phone numbers and adresses of the e-mail, that saved me last time also when it was really close that I would have sent the money for them. I know that that was really naive to even believe that there could be families who would pay that kind of salaries and so on...But they sent really many pictures and their mails were so kind..This is horrible! I don't know whether I can trust in any family anymore..

The first scam:

> Austrian by birth and British by naturalization. I have been living
> and working in the United Kingdom for over a decade now. I'm married

> We need help in the morning to get them off to
> pre-school/kindergarden. Then help again from afternoon until bedtime.
> You will need to do their laundry and clean their rooms. Some ironing
> of clothing required as well. You DO NOT have to do any house cleaning
> (aside from kids rooms) as we have a part time housekeeper. You have
> your own private apartment within the house.. No cooking required,
> only making snacks and drinks for the kids. You will have two days off
> a week, Saturdays and Sundays and your working hours is 30-35 hours
> per week. Your monthly salary is 2000 pounds while your weekly stipend
