Scams offering fake Au Pair positions
by hassanaugust Wed Dec 16, 2009 11:58 am
Hello Au pair,
I saw your profile on the aupairconnect site.
We are a British family living in London, UK. Am a consultant in the Department of Plant Sciences, University of Tennessee
We currently have some kids aged 3 & 5 years old, we looking for a Au Pair or Nanny from Any Country that can speak English and is willing to stay with us for a minimum of 6 or 12 month(s).
About Our Family
We are a professional couple, living here in the UK .Our kids are fairly easy going and relaxed, they would enjoy someone with lots of energy and enthusiasm.. Having English as a first language is not required and in fact, we would entertain the nanny speaking to them in
her own mother-tongue..
We only seek a Au pair for basic child care and light housework. If you accept to take a position with us, you would be paid the sum of £1800(One thousand eight hundred pounds sterling) every month with a weekly pocket money of £200. Hence we are doing anything that would motivate the intending Nanny to put in her best in taking care of our children.
You shall have a private accommodation with furnished sitting room and bedroom and also a private bathroom. A Fixed land phone and an Internet ready computer.Do well to send us your references or resume & also an update picture of yourself, and we would get in touch with them. Should the outcome be positive, we would send you a Contract Letter. We shall discuss travel arrangements in due course of which I would be of generous assistance to you. You can reach me on my personal mobile to indicate your interest. My Number is +447045754032 or [email protected]
We sincerely look forward to hearing from you.
Best Wishes
Dr Paul Clinton.

Hi and welcome to Scamwarners.
All four are scams I'm afraid. The English is strange, the email addresses are all free ones, even lawyer.com, which I can't imagine any UK lawyer using. They have their own websites and email addresses. The phone numbers are free redirect ones which conceal the fact that whoever answers can be anywhere in the world.
And as far as I know, Tennessee in not in the UK. :)

Welcome to ScamWarners, Nix, and thank you for posting this version of the above scam mail. I'm glad you recognised it as a scam, and that you also wanted to warn other people about it.
by VonDavenport Wed Jul 14, 2010 2:14 am
Thanks for posting this version as well! I recently received the same email and was a little put off by it. After googling for confirmation I came across this website and alas, its a scam!

I noticed a few things right away:

First was the lack of grammar, capitalization, punctuation, and repetitiveness. No doctor would ever send an email this disorganized.
Second, the lack of math skills. 9 to 5 is eight hours, not nine.
Third, the email address. Usually when someone creates and email address with a year in it, its the year they were born. Born in 1985 and a doctor? I think not!

Scammers seriously annoy me, but I have found a way to slightly get back at them! I call it Rate-A-Scam. Basically I think of a few categories (Use of English, Believability, Annoyance, Overall, etc) and rate them on a 1-10 scale and then write a little summary. I've gotten more than a few responses from displeased scammers and laughed hysterically.

Hello VonDavenport, and welcome to ScamWarners.

I'm glad that you are good at spotting scams.

Please don't help scammers become better at scamming, though! If you let them know that their English is not very good, and their stories are not very believable, they might correct their English and improve their stories, and become more difficult to spot ... and trick more people into sending them money.

If you want to 'do' something about scams and scammers, you could post the scam mails that you receive here at ScamWarners, along with the email addresses, and headers. This information will then be available to potential victims, and warn them that this is a scammer - which will 'get back' at the scammers and save people from losing money to them, at the same time.

Welcome TheWorriedOne,
Thank you for posting this email, which is definitely another scam, there is not a real family involved but only someone who is trying to steal money from you by western union or moneygram. Au pair scams are described in detail here: viewtopic.php?f=42&t=3019 and this is a clear example.

Would you mind posting the email address this comes from, it helps us keep up with the different ones they are using.
by TheWorriedOne Mon Feb 27, 2012 2:37 pm
Hello!

But this family exists, we actually signed the contract letter.

I wasn't sure only about this particular email, I posted last.
by Helen Halper Mon Feb 27, 2012 2:49 pm
Welcome to Scamwarners, TheWorriedOne.

I don't understand your post. How do you know that the family "exists"? The email that you posted is an obvious scam. Therefore any "family" connected to it are scammers. The contact letter that you signed is a fake. There is no family. The scammer, pretending to be the Robert Edwin family, only wants to steal money from you by saying that they will procure your certificate of eligibility, national insurance number, job reference number. This is a scam.

by TheWorriedOne Mon Feb 27, 2012 3:01 pm
I mean they probably exist because I was emailing with them for more than one week now.
They were very persuasive.
