Scams offering fake Au Pair positions
by Chris Fuller Mon Aug 23, 2010 2:03 pm
This is not a genuine au pair opportunity; it is a scam. The writer of these emails is not a British man living in the UK; he is a Nigerian man, living in Nigeria.

The same scammer also writes the emails pretending to come from his fake Eagle Travel Agency.

Note that the scammer offers to help with expenses. This is a normal thing for a scammer to offer; designed to make you feel warm and grateful towards him. In reality, the scammer will obtain no travel documents for you, the fee is invented, and his only aim is to trick you into sending money to him.

If you are looking for an au pair job in the UK, please contact the British Embassy in your own country to check UK entry requirements. You can find the genuine British Embassy website by Google searching 'British Embassy' and the name of your country. Note that a genuine British Embassy email address will always end with @fco.gov.uk (and with no words or abbrieviations after that).

Do not send money to any agency, embassy, lawyer, or other person introduced to you by a potential employer. If you wish to consult the UK Border Agency, do not use an email address or website address given to you by your potential employer, but go to the genuine website here:

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/

If you require any help with travel arrangements, please contact a travel agency in your own town, which you can visit in person.

Subject: We Need You In Our Family..

Dearest Au pair

We are a busy full time working family We Live in Lambourn, West Berkshire United Kingdom– My name is Michael and My wife Katherine and I both work in the IT industry, I am lucky enough to be able to work from home most days. Katherine is also into her photography; I like to horse ride when I can and have recently got into craft stuff. We live in a four bedroom house that is considered to be “fairly” large by British standards and we have a private garden.

We are looking for an au pair to look after my 4 year old Girl Sonia she is quite easy going but knows what she likes. she loves being outside and going for walks to the park. He takes to people easily and is very friendly. We would want our au pair to drop off and collect Sonia from school, making sure she is ready for school on time. Our au pair will need to care for Sonia once he has been collected from school until we finish work around 6pm......We will be paying you £300 per week.

We live in the country in a large village called Lambourn; the village is full of racehorses and is in the middle of the West Berkshire (rolling hill countryside) giving us lots of options for rural walks.

Lambourn is a rural village and there is not too much to do, but we do have a couple of Pubs. About 30 minutes drive away are the larger towns of Reading and Swindon that have a lot more nightlife going on. London is about 1 hour away by train but the train fares can be quite expensive and the last train back is surprisingly early at 11pm, alternatively it’s about one and a half to two hours drive by car. Oxford and Bristol are the two nearest cities both around 40 minutes drive away. We will provide our Au Pair with a car and won’t mind if it’s used over the weekend.

Most weekends we are out and about doing something, ranging from feeding the local ducks to other activities like going to zoos; our Au Pair is not expected to work at all during weekends and will have free-time to do with whatever he/she wants, but is more than welcome to join us.

Here is my home address
18 Newbury Rd
Lambourn, West Berkshire RG17 7, UK

Our au pair will have a bedroom with a single bed, Sky TV, DVD and a laptop with access to the internet. There is also a room downstairs and there is a comfy sofa and a TV, Sky and DVD available so could be used as her room also.

Hope yo here from you soon..

Am not just looking for an Au pair but a friend and also a big sister for my lovely daughter .Me and my wife we both work in the IT industry..... Myself and my wife share the sames hobbies (Reading, Music and Shopping) while Sonia love playing with her dolls and going to the Amusement Park during the weekend which she loves so much.

Am a mother and all I want is for you to be happy. We live in a lovely and conducive environment which I believe you will so much love. You are going to share in our happiness and happy home. Thanks for posting this, just saved me from making a huge cock up. I have received correspondence from this guy also, different photos now - he is operating on greataupairs.com. I only picked up it was a scam when was offering information about a position in LA but not asking me any questions about myself when was looking for someone to look after his daughter then wanted me to make arrangements myself through an agency for visa, flights to come over without checking my references, very dodgy indeed.
