Scams offering fake Au Pair positions
by madolene Sat Aug 28, 2010 12:16 am
hi,i'm madolene and i'm 31 yrs old.i meet somebody online and he offered me the job as nanny for his 2 kids age 8 and 5..here's the ...JOB DESCRIPTION ..sent July 30,2010

Thanks for the interest in my family.I want to see your scanned passport copy, and your bio data as well.Truly i need a foreign Nanny,i know that there are a lot of Nannies in the UK here but its just that i need a Nanny from outside, that is caring, loving, motherly carefree and well determined, that can take good care of my kids for me but with the recommendation from you and that is the more reason I may need your services, hopefully you will be my kid's Nanny and do according to your words.
I reside in London and do not get worried about any documents(work Permit and Visa),a travel agency here in the UK will handle that for you as per your visa just scan&send the copy of your international passport and CV through email to them, they will apply for visa on your behalf in the UK Home Office and when the visa is ready the UK Embassy in your country will call on you so that they can endorse the visa on your original passport. If you have any other traveling agency you could also use that.

I love my kids so much and would not toy with them. They are the apple of my eyes.I work because of them and am willing to pay any amount to give them the best in the world. You would be needing to settle the Visa Procurement yourself because i paid for 2 Nannies in the past few months which they did not turn up but went somewhere else after their visa was approved and that is why i vowed that any Nanny that i will employ will make half of expenses by herself.Hope you understand how i mean.I need a very serious person and the job is available right now. Also,i use to have a Nanny and she spent 2 years with us,but she got married and relocated to the United states,so i need a replacement ASAP.

Your duties are as follows:

1-Supervise breakfast with the children in the morning and get them off to school (Collect my 2KIDS of ages 8yrs and 6yrs old from school at 3.40pm.)
2-Some Housework/washing/ironing as required on a daily basis
3-Supervise amusic practice and fun activities or take children to after school activities.
4-Prepare and cook an evening meal for everyone at about 6.30-6.45 Up to two evenings child minding per week.
5-Weekends and Bank holidays would be free that there will not be much duties to carry out.
6-Occasional weekend work would be offered by prior negotiation. I normally leave for
work at 7.00am and get back at around 6.30pm although some flexibility is useful.
I am offering a live-in position with full board (we eat well in this house!)
1-Separate Toilet and Bathroom.
2-TV,different types of video machines.
3-Personal computer already Internet on. e..t.c for you and i will make sure everything goes on well with you, with my kids.

Don't worry about the United Kingdom,it's a nice place to stay and i hope you will enjoy staying here with my family and you will have the access to internet, In fact i have a personal PC at home for myself but my kids usually play games on their own PC, i will get you a computer to start using for your own use.All expenses made by you will be refunded immediately you get here.

Do get back to me as soon as possible with your bio data and we take it from there..
Regard

Unfortunately, it is completely a scam.

That was not written by someone from UK--the mistakes and some of the word choices place the author squarely in Africa.

But this is 100% proof of scam:

a travel agency here in the UK will handle that for you as per your visa just scan&send the copy of your international passport and CV through email to them, they will apply for visa on your behalf in the UK Home Office and when the visa is ready the UK Embassy in your country will call on you so that they can endorse the visa on your original passport. If you have any other traveling agency you could also use that.

Travel agencies cannot get visas for people, and UK embassies do not call on anyone! In order to get a visa, you would have to apply through the UK government, and you would have to show up at an agency to have your biometrics (fingerprints etc.) taken. The "travel agent" (who is the scammer or an accomplice) will charge you fees to supposedly get your visa. If you send the money, you will be left with no money, no visa, and no job.

Hi madolene,

I'm glad that you now know that this is a scam. As Dotti says, nobody else can get a visa for you. The UK is actually very strict about who can come here as an au pair, so be best thing you can do before looking for an au pair job in the UK is to contact the British Embassy in your own country, and find out whether you would be permitted to enter the UK.

You can find the genuine British Embassy website by Google searching 'British Embassy' and the name of your country. Note that a genuine British Embassy email address will always end with @fco.gov.uk (and with no words or abbreviations after that).

By posting scammers you encounter here, you are helping to fight this type of crime. Because the criminals are often operating in another country, out of reach of your law enforcement, it is very difficult to get these scammers arrested. But by alerting potential victims of these scammers, you are helping to keep the money in the hands of the innocent hardworking people, and out of the hands of the scammers, and that really does make a difference.

by the way, I have moved this thread to the employment scams forum as it is the best location for it.

To add to what Dotti has said

You cannot get a visa without the UK Embassy having your original passport

A visa forms a part of your passport and is not a separate document. If you do not submit your original passport it's impossible to have the passport stamped and you won't get a visa.

Any job offer that mentions a 'passport scan' is a fraud. I don't know of anyone who accepts a passport scan as a form of ID, and it will never be accepted in support of a visa application.

Non-EU citizens should go here to find out about obtaining a visa to work as an au pair in the UK

Hey Si,

It's Mark... I know it's been a while since we talked but I need your assistance please.

A Filipina friend of mine needs 300 pounds to come there and work. She forwarded the email from the agency she has been dealing with. Could you verify they exist and are legit. Then ask if there is any way possible the payment can be paid in installments. I don't have money to loan her right now but I'm trying to figure out some solution for her.

Please get back to me asap and many thanks in advance!

-Mark

That is very typical of a scammer--continue the lies, even after the victim has caught on, in hopes they can convince them again.

FYI 44-70 numbers are not real UK numbers. They are redirect phone numbers that are automatically forwarded to phones almost anywhere in the world. In this case, the call will be redirected to the scammer's cell phone in Africa.

At this point it would be best to drop all correspondence with him--he has too much real information about you to keep playing with him. Don't point him to the information here--if you do that, he will change his name and email address, and the next victim is less likely to learn the truth.

H'e'll never admit to being a scammer madolene.

He only wants money, and he knows that if he admits to be a scammer he won't get any. When he knows he won't get any from you he'll just stop talking to you.

The UK visa office don't beg for money. They just reject your application, but you haven't made a real visa application and I'll repeat what I told another person being scammed.

http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/biometricvisa/

You will have to go in person to your nearest visa application centre to provide your biometrics and your visa application will not be processed until this has been done.

If you haven't visited the Embassy or visa office and provided fingerprints - then no fee is payable, because you haven't made a valid visa application.

http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/applyonline/

There is no method of obtaing a UK visa by sending e-mails to anyone. You can use the official online application but will still have to visit the local UK Embassy or their visa application office, and until that's been done your application won't even be looked at.

All UK Border Agency visa applicants are required to provide biometric information as part of the visa application process every time they apply for a visa

Anyone asking for a passport scan is a scammer. No visa will be issued against anything other than the original passport and it's where the visa is stamped/attached. You need to provide the Embassy/visa office with fingerprints which must be taken by you visiting them personally.

Any visa application process that doesn't involve presenting your original passport to the British Embassy or their visa application representative office in your home country, and visiting them in perosn to provide biometric information (fingerprints) is a scam.

The fact that you will be asked to make payment by Western Union or to a private individual's bank account will just confirm that it's a scam. The UK government NEVER receive visa fees through the accounts of private individuals or by Western Union.

The man you are speaking to madolene is a man who spends his whole life lying and his computer will be full of passport scans he has tricked people into sending him. A passport scan is not accepted as valid ID by anyone. It won't get you a visa.

Non-EU citizens should go here to find out about obtaining a visa to work as an au pair in the UK

Madolene,

Those image links don't work, so we can't see the passport--all the same, I have no doubt it will be a fake (or stolen from a former victim).

Some scammers will go to great lengths to continue the lie--this is obviously one of them.
cant you see that i am not trying to make you believe me?
i just want you to send the mail so i can get my money back

On the contrary, the whole point of insisting on this letter is to make you believe him. There is no travel agency and he has not sent money to anyone. He is still pretending the travel agency is real, and if you write a letter to the travel agency, he knows you have been pulled back in to his lies.

And just to make it clear, the number is redirect, not a public number. That means it has been programmed to automatically forward to his personal phone (most likely his cellphone), so if you dialed it, you would actually reach him--but he would not be anywhere near UK.

But as you attempt to argue with him, you are actually helping him. By pointing out everything he does wrong, you are telling him what to change so that he is next believable for the next victim. Now in addition to changing his name and email, he will probably change the address of the fake travel agency to a real address.

This is why we advise you to cut off all contact with the scammer. Continuing contact will do more harm than good, and if you play with him for too long, he may retaliate. While he is not coming to your country to hurt you, having him become angry enough to start an online campaign against you is not much fun. Scammers have been known to do such things as posting fake online complaints and lies about victims, or spoofing victims' email addresses when sending out thousands of scam emails, leaving the victim with hundreds of bounced email messages, angry responses, and possibly without an email account when their provider closes it for suspicious activity.
