by iwitw Mon Feb 07, 2011 11:31 am
Hello,

I would like you to help me out and tell me if this family are scammers or not. I will explain.
I am a boy from Spain who want to work as an au pair this summer in the USA, so I registered
in many websites that put in contact both parts (families and au pairs).
I recieved these messages from one family.
Can you tell me if it's reliable or not?

First message, via Facebook:

Second message, via e-mail ([email protected]):

Hello (my name written here),

How are you? hope you are fine and your family are doing
great. I am very happy that you are interested and willing to work for
us in June, we will make sure we have vacancy for you and I am sure we
will get along so well. Anyway it might interest you to know little
about the family and what we expect of you:

ABOUT US
I'm working with the USA Air Force here in N.Harrison Ave, Cary, North
Carolina, while my husband works as a consultant. I am down to earth,
blunt and take things the way they come. I am a very friendly person
and easy to get along with. You will have no problem in adapting to our
lifestyle here. We will be needing your services due to the time
commitment that is demanding by our job. We want you to know that
you'll never have any cause to regret taking up this job.

THE KIDS
Mike is 4 years, he is welcoming, has a warm and friendly attitude. He
likes playing a lot and also like candy, chocolate. He is very
intelligent and loves to take after people, this is the more reason I
will appreciate someone with good qualities to be her Au pair so that
she doesn't take to bad influence. but i do not think you will not
have any problem with him so far he eats and plays well. John is 9
months, he pays rapt attention to all i do and tries to mimic those
acts he sees me perform. Their father likes them so much and plays a
very active role in their life.

SCHEDULE
Your job is not a hard one, I do not believe in supervising or
monitoring people to do their job.I believe people should be giving a
free role in whatever they do. So, I believe you should be able to
perform well without being told. All entails preparing Mike for school
in the morning, taking him to the point where the school bus picks him
up. You will have a free period then whereby you can do any vocation
or practice or time for studying if you are type or whatever is at
your disposal. Then you help monitor him after he is back home, Most
importantly you take good care of John at home and try to make sure
they are alright till my arrival from work. This is to let you know
that you are open to any religion of yours as we do not have any
problem with that.

Morning: help children get dressed, feeding, prepare for morning
activities<school,play class etc>

Afternoon: participate in other activities ,library, swimming lessons,
read books ,play games, listen to music

Evening: help prepare dinner, give them baths, help them put on pajamas,
help them with any projects and school activities.

Your accommodation here is free because you will have your own room
here in our house. you are provided with a well furnished Master bed
room will be made available for your personal use soon as you get
here.there will be your personal laptop connected to the internet, TV
and other necessary gadgets at your disposal. There will be enough
privacy for you,i guess you'll really like it.

SALARY
You will have $5.8 for 8.50 hours per day for 23 days(23 days out 31
days of the month) makes or equals $1,200 plus $80 every week for your
petty expenses, your off days are the weekends Saturday and Sunday
makes up the remain 8 days to make up the 31 days of the month so you
won't be paid during those days but In case you have to work during
your off days your per pay will be at $6.00 per hour and it will be
added to your end of the month salary. This salary is subject to
negotiations for an upward review upon your arrival..

STUDY
The family will be responsible for any form of course you will like to
study the colleges/ universities here are open to part-time study
pattern and I am sure you will find courses like English Language and
Art/Culture learning interesting and educative in case you might take
interest in this.

OFF DAYS
You have every weekend as your off day as i will not be going to work
during weekends except special overtime.

Concerning the when to start and your length of your stay? This is
actually open to both of us but you most importantly as you will have
to decide this by putting some things into consideration so in that
case I will like you to please let me know for how long you will be
staying with us? I am not sure if you meant that you are available for
about 4 months(June-September) but as for us you are free to stay with
us for as long as you want 3, 6, 9, 12 months more of these or less
and any date of your choice to start will also be welcome though
definitely not along time as we dont have a choice than to wait. This
is very important because I am sure you will agree with me that it
will be a great idea if we start the processing of your Visa, Flight
ticket, Work permit, Insurance and other traveling documents any
moment from now so that you can have them ready as to avoid any delay
on your part. Also as said, it is a simple, safe and reliable process
which takes about 1 month and few weeks as they helped us with our
last Au pair and the experience has been wonderful and satisfactory.
If that is okay with you anyway get back to me so that we can have
that arranged together with an agency here in the State.

Please tell us more about you and your family? I will be sending some
pics of ours later.

Feel free to ask any question, we will not hesitate to answer you.
Thanks so much, we are very grateful and we hope to hear from you
soon.

Yours sincerely
With Love

If you are wanting to work as an au pair in the USA iwitw you will only receive replies from scammer the way you're doing it.

Au pairs and families must go through an approved sponsor organization and the au pair must be between the ages of 18 and 26. The Au Pair program grants J-1 visas to foreign young people to work as an au pair for up to 12 months (extensions are possible).

If neither you nor the family have gone through such a sponsor organisation, and they're listed here

http://eca.state.gov/jexchanges/index.cfm?fuseaction=record.list&cat=2

then they can't offer you a job, and you wouldn't be able to accept it anyway.

This link gives you more details on how to go about it.

http://exchanges.state.gov/jexchanges/programs/aupair.html

Scammers make the process a lot easier because all they intend to do is steal your money and that's what the person who has contacted you is - a scammer.

Sorry to give you bad news, but it's better that you don't lose your money as well, and if you're serious about wanting this type of job, then make sure you do your homework, as there are lots of predators out there who will take your money and give you nothing.

Non-EU citizens should go here to find out about obtaining a visa to work as an au pair in the UK

Whenever payment is requested by Western Union you're dealing with a scammer

Hello... I also have experience with scammers. Woman (Belinda Forsmann) contact me on facebook, that sge saw my profile at page aupair world.. and sent some information by mail.
Hello,
How are you? hope you are doing fine. I am very happy to know that you are interested and available to work for my family. I must assure you that everything is going to work out just fine here. Of course you starting until next summer is okay with us so it might interest you to know little about the family and the job expectations.

ABOUT US
I'm working with the a Law firm as Public Relation Officer here in Los Angeles, California, USA. while my husband Michael works as a consultant Engineer in an IT firm. I am down to earth, blunt and take things the way they come. I am a very friendly person and easy to get along with. You will have no problem in adapting to our lifestyle here. We will be needing your services due to the time commitment that is demanding by our job. We want you to know that you'll never have any cause to regret taking up this job.

THE KIDS
My last child is a Girl her name is Chloe and she is 4 years old, she is at kindergarten school and she will soon proceed to elementary school to join her brother. She is welcoming and though she is young, she has a warm reception for people and she has got friendly attitude too. She likes playing a lot and I do not think you will not have any problem with her so far she eats and plays well. Lewis is 7 years old, he is a bright boy very intelligent and ease going, he's in the fourth year in elementary school. He likes candy, chocolate and he likes watching cartoon movies and cycling with our Neighbors in the neighborhood. He also likes playing a father role because he's always with me in the absence of their father, being the first child and the only son he likes taking responsibilities and this amaze me and his father cause he is Just seven and he act much more older than his age.

CITY
We live in a big city with attractive views, natural environments and nice structures. "Surely here in Los Angeles as well as other cities is regarded as the Paradise of the world. People of this place and other states are very simple in their manners, Everybody is neither Poverty nor Riches, each house is quite okay, and every man has a trade and other good job opportunities and student are also responsible in their respective schools, Most importantly there is no distinction of Persons." Somethings are expensive like housing and car sales but most of other things are affordable like food, clothes and many more. But I really cant say much except you come here and see for yourself, Okay. More so here; life is so easy and organized, you can hardly miss anything you need. It is just that no matter what you are here to do you must stay focused and enjoy yourself while not being distracted. This will be the best place for you to experience and I am sure you will have fun.

SCHEDULE
Your job is not a hard one, I do not believe in supervising or monitoring people to do their job.I believe people should be giving a free role in whatever they do. So, I believe you should be able to perform well without being told. All entails preparing the kids for school in the morning, taking Lewis and Chloe to the point where the school bus picks them up to school. You will have a free period then whereby you can do any vocation or practice or time for studying if you are type or whatever is at your disposal. Then you help monitor them after they are brought home by the school bus, just to make sure they are alright till my arrival from work.
Morning: help children get dressed, feeding, prepare for morning activities<school, play class etc>
Afternoon: participate in other activities, library, swimming lessons, read books, play games, listen to music.
Evening: help prepare dinner, give them baths, help them put on pajamas, Help them with any projects and school activities.
SALARY
You will have $5.8 for 8.50 hours per day for 23 days(23 days out 31 days of the month) makes or equals $1,200 plus $70 every week for your petty expenses, your off days are the weekends Saturday and Sunday makes up the remain 8 days to make up the 31 days of the month so you won't be paid during those days but In case you have to work during your off days your per pay will be at $6.00 per hour and it will be added to your end of the month salary. This salary is subject to negotiations for an upward review upon your arrival and I am sure this pays you more in return because you are going to have a substantial savings.

You will be provided with a well furnished bed room in the house as soon as you get here with your personal bathroom. We will also endeavor to get you a personal desktop computer connected to the internet(and if you have your laptop you can also bring it along), TV and other necessary gadgets at your disposal. There is no problem with you having a cell phone but you are also left with the option of using the home line to reach whoever you want to contact. There will be enough privacy for you, I guess you'll really like it.

STUDY
You will be free to study in any school of your choice around soon as you get here. I will be helping you as regards course fee. There are so many colleges and universities here that offer good and qualitative part time courses here and many more but you we will discuss more about this when you arrive fully, okay.

OFF DAYS
You have every weekend as your off day as I will not be going to work during weekends except special overtime.

This not only gives us both an assurance of our agreement but also makes us happy that you will become part of our family soonest. If we promise each other that you will come or accept you then sometimes you know promises do fail but to avoid that I think we can have something more concrete on ground. So concerning the when to start and your length of your stay?- To the best of my understanding I believe this is the best part of the year for visa application and I am sure that you will quite agree with me that it will be a great idea if we can start the processing of your Visa, Return Flight, Medical/Social Insurance and other Child Care documents/agreement any moment from now so that you can have them ready as to avoid any delay on your part, you will be applying for it through the agent here in the States, they helped us with our past Au pairs and the experience has been wonderful. Their processing is usually about 1 month with a safe and reliable service so in that case we have no choice than to wait and get all the visa and required documents; so get back to me so that we can have that arranged.

How long you intend staying with us? As for us you are free to stay as long as you want at the minimum for 3 months and at the maximum for a year but all depends on your availability and plan for the year but any length of stay you choose as the case may be we are satisfied with it, okay so let us know your decision.

Feel free to ask any question, we will not hesitate to answer you but I will still appreciate if you can tell us more about you, your city and your family?.

I would love to have some of your pictures too if they are available. Hope to hear from you soon.

Yours sincerely,
With Love.
Belinda Forsmann.

Thank everyone here for this. She/he/it wrote to me as well, and today "she" gave me her "agents" email for the visa application that you are supposed to do with your embassy, so I checked the name in the email address (Jessica critch) and found a facebook account with the same profile picture as "Belinda Forsmann". And I found this to be even more weird than the whole visa application though some agent. So I googled her name and found this. You guys just saved me a whole lot of trouble. Thank you!

Next time I want to be an Au pair I'll make sure it is through a certified agent for Au pairs!
