Scams offering fake Au Pair positions
by Chris Fuller Thu Mar 10, 2011 6:51 pm
This is not a genuine au pair opportunity; it is a scam. The au pair position does not exist, and the British Immigration office is fake.

Notice that this scammer uses the name Dr Mark Denton in the text of his emails, but the sender's name is Dr Mark Dover. This scammer also sends out scam mails in the name of Dr Mark Dover; you can see some examples of these here:

subject URGENT NEED OF AN AUPAIR

Hello Au pair,
I saw your profile on the Aupair-options site.
I stay No 12 Winchfield Rd, Sydenham, London. SE26 5TQ.
We currently have some kids aged 3 & 5 years old, we looking for a Au Pair or Nanny from Any Country that can speak English and is willing to stay with us for a minimum of 6 or 12 month(s).
We are a British family living in London, UK. I work for (shell petroleum).A British Based Multinational Oil and Gas Company.
About Our Family
We are a professional couple, living here in the UK .Our kids are fairly easy going and relaxed, they would enjoy someone with lots of energy and enthusiasm.. Having English as a first language is not required and in fact, we would entertain the nanny speaking to them in
her own mother-tongue..
We only seek a Au pair for basic child care and light housework. If you accept to take a position with us, you would be paid the sum of £1800(One thousand eight hundred pounds sterling) with a weekly pocket money of £200. Hence we are doing anything that would motivate the intending Nanny to put in her best in taking care of our children.
You shall have a private accommodation with furnished sitting room and bedroom and also a private bathroom. A Fixed land phone and an Internet ready computer.Do well to send us your references or resume & also an update picture of yourself, and we would get in touch with them. Should the outcome be positive, we would send you a Contract Letter. We shall discuss travel arrangements in due course of which I would be of generous assistance to you. You can reach me on my personal mobile to indicate your interest. My Number is +447045754032 or [email protected]
We sincerely look forward to hearing from you.
Best Wishes
Dr Mark Denton.

Here is another example of an email from this scammer.

From: <[email protected]>
Subject: MAKE YOUR PAYMENT NOW FOR YOUR MEDICALS AND POLICE CLEARANCE

Attn,

This is to update you about the proceedings of your application,I just received a fax message from the office of the UK immigration and Nationality Directorate Board on your application.

Please see attachment below for further briefing.

According to the message the clearance certificate has to be attached to your application, the reason for this demand is as a result of the present global perils caused by terrorists.
The above document can be procured at the British Data Inspection Board in London.
In this regard ,I want to assure you that your permits will be endorsed soonest,I am very positive in this regard, the document is just a protocol that has to be met, after which the permits will be issued to you.

I contacted their office (British Data Inspection Board ) in regard to the procurement of the document and the urgency (TIME) it entails and was told that it will take 24 hrs to prepare it and it will cost £1400pounds,however I did explain this to Dr Mark Denton and I must say he was really worried but due to urgency of the situation,he has opted to share the cost with you,by making avail £1000pounds later today or first thing in the morning so as to avoid any delay,as your documents are set and due for delivery after we get through with this.
Reply in this regard as soon as you get this mail because we want to finish with your application so that we can attend to recent applications in our office.

Thanks for Your Cooperation.

Thank you.
I felt unsure of this person and after just a few minutes on Google I stumbled on this site. I almost fell for this scam being so desperate for an au pair job.
Can I inform the police of this man/woman/thing?
by Chris Fuller Thu Jan 05, 2012 8:30 am
Hello elmarien and welcome to ScamWarners. I'm glad that you researched the person who was writing to you.

This scammer is really a Nigerian man, living in Nigeria - the information that he gives in his emails is invented and untrue. Therefore there is very little that the police can do about his crimes and attempted crimes. The best we can hope for is that other au pairs, like yourself, wisely research anyone offering them an au pair position.

If you are not European, it is also a good idea to check whether or not you are eligible to go to the UK as an au pair. There is a list of countries whose citizens are eligible here:

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas ... ityscheme/

If you also click on 'Conditions of your stay' on the left hand side of that webpage, you will be able to confirm that this is the correct visa for au pairs.
