Hello Kacie, I sent you a PM regarding this, but I don't think you saw it!

I am so sorry that your family's photos are being used in this way. Unfortunately, scammers do search through family profiles, websites, and blogs to find a nice looking family whose photos they can use in their scams - they will download and use any suitable photos that they find, without caring in the least about the feelings of the real family. And yes, will often also use the real family names (and personal information), too, so that any of their victims who google the names will find that everything 'matches', and feel more confident about the scammer's stories and lies.

This is, of course, very distressing for the real family.

Nobody can stop a scammer using photographs once they have downloaded them. And the scammer does not care about the feelings of his victims at all - whether that is the family he has stolen the photos from, or the au pair who is stealing money from. We do prefer to show the stolen photos here, because sometimes scammers change fake names, but continue to use the same photos - and seeing this, it can alert potential victims to the scam, and save them from having their money stolen. That's important to us, of course, to guard people from theft - but if you would prefer to have your stolen photos removed from this scam warning, I can also remove them for you. That's the best that I can offer, though, I'm afraid.

You also like to consider watermarking photos that you upload to your blog, to deter scammers from stealing any more of them. Overlaying them in a graphics programme with your blog's url will make them less likely to appeal to a scammer. You might also like to raise awareness of this amongst your extended family and friends.

I'm sorry that I can't be more help than that. Thank you for writing about this - it underlines why we so much want to expose these heartless criminals.
