Scams offering fake Au Pair positions
by Chris Fuller Mon May 09, 2011 3:55 am
This is not a genuine au pair opportunity; it is a scam. The au pair position does not exist, and both the family and the barrister are fake.

From: Richard Hopkins <[email protected]>

Hello,

How are you doing? I trust you are in good health ?
It was nice to get to hear from you . I just went through your profile again and also showed your photo to my wife and she liked it,We think you have a good sense of humor and good personality as well so we will consider hiring you for your services and your resumption date will be just fine with us.

Salary ranges from £800 as monthly Salary and a weekly pocket money of £150pounds sterling.
You will be expected to work for approximately 30-35 hours per week, and have the weekends off.

However as regards arrangements, my family will be willing to cater for your all round flight/fare expenses and Airport pick up. Plus we provide you with a conducive private live in accommodation in our home and feeding as well for the duration of time spent with us.
But am afraid you will have to be solely responsible for handling the Attorney binding fee for your legal Contract agreement which as I am now aware of should be legally certified and endorsed over at the home office since you will be working here with us as Domestic worker/Au pair.

So if you agree to these terms do let us know in due course because we have never hired an aupair from outside the UK before but a friend of mine at the office who also had her Au pair come in from Bulgaria couple of months ago referred us to a reliable attorney who works directly with the UK Home office that assisted with hers as well.....He is a very well known attorney here and he works hand in hand with the home office so he should issue a copy of the Contract and other necessary guidelines, so feel free to get in touch with him when you can only if you alright with the terms...

But first let me tell you a little bit more about my family and give you a brief insight on our neighborhood....,

Maureen is a teacher in a local high school not too far from the house, she teaches physical education to a wide range of pupils.
I on the other hand work as a Real estate agent,am involved in buying, selling long & short term leasing of properties in and outside the shores of London.
We are down to earth people not arrogant,we respect our employees opinion very much, our son is the most adorable thing on the face of the earth we love him so much and so will you I hope.We are also easy going people my wife and I.

I leave for work early in the morning 7.30am,about the same time my wife does, Max leaves at 8.00am comes in by 2.00pm.
He gets the school bus from across the road. So you would typically be free from 8.00am each morning until school closes in the afternoon, then you look after him until we arrive home. We have a cook Maria that helps us out with that for now anyway.

In the morning the whole family takes breakfast together and the kid eats cereals or oat meals, its his favorite. He also enjoys playing video games & a little bit of soccer outside the lawn when he wants to get messy but don't worry you should get used to it in no time if you choose to proceed with your application.

And about our neighborhood...
We have a train and bus station not too far from the house, there is also a language school and park where folks go to spend quality time and relax or walk their dogs.
We dont have a beach close by, but you will require to drive not too far to get to one, we sometimes go there during the weekends to spend quality time together and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

One more thing just in case you agree to the terms ,I want you to know we are a religious family,so we also attend services every Wednesdays & Sundays.

And If I may ask you some questions,do you practice your religion as well?

.Please tell me a little about your own childhood and your relationship with your family?

.What type of things do you like to do in your free time?

.Are you comfortable assisting with homework? Reviewing homework?

.Are you comfortable supervising friends of our son during a play date while you are in charge?

Kindly let me know what the possible outcome might be in due course so we are prepared, and I will also love to speak to you over the phone so please let us know when will be convenient enough for you?

Hello bobo00,

I'm so sorry to hear that you lost so much money to scammers. Thank you, though, for telling your story, as this shows how heartless and greedy scammers are.

We have a warning about Lambert Newton here:

viewtopic.php?f=42&t=18329

though I'm sorry that it was too late to warn you.

If you can add any emails you received and email addresses to that thread, this will be helpful to warn other people before scammers steal from them too. Please take care to remove all mentions of your own name, email address, or any other personal details, though.

Hi

Thank you again for the response and sharing a little bit more about yourself and family with us,Maureen and I really appreciate it. And after reading through your letter I have doubt that you will make a perfect aupair and teacher for our son Max.

Anyway as regards your question,my family presently resides here in South London and our address will be clearly stated on a copy of your contract letter the lawyer should issue to you when you contact him.
Also its alright if you want to stay with us during the holidays, you are welcome to do so.

Lastly,as I have mentioned to you to make the processing of your hard copy documents more reliable and faster my family will handle the expenses for your work visa/permit directly from the UK immigtration department here and also cater for your all round flight expenses.
You only get to show concern on your part and assist with the legal binding and certification fees for the attorney. so just contact him via his chamber address I gave to you already and he should issue proper legal guidelines instead of an agency.

Let me know the outcome, keep in touch

Best wishes and love from Maureen and Max.

Top of the day to you

Please accept my apologizes for not getting back to you sooner with updates concerning your pending application,I have infact been very busy with work and recent applications in my chambers,so please forgive me.

I have received your duely signed contract letter and filled up application form you sent, however Madam we will have a little problem because the information we just received now is that today should be the last day for this month of July to submit entries and applications to the UK home office and Immigration for the legal processing of hard copy documents for all foreign applicants outside the UK this is due to the recent secuirty upgrade about to be implimented over at the embassy and Immigration department.

That not withstanding Madam, yesterday your employer already handled the fee for your work visa/permit at the immigration so maybe you can plead with them immediately you get this letter to pay the fee of 315pounds sterling for you and you can repay them instead by Monday morning to avoid any form of complications on your application.

I anticipate your reply soonest so I know what to do next Madam

Sincerely yours

Barr. Raymond Hill.
by sweetrevenge Tue Jul 12, 2011 5:38 pm
Good morning

Sorry I couldn't get back to you as I said yesterday. Anyway I was trying to explain to you over the phone that I already paid for the immigration cost of the legal processing of your work permit/visa but unfortunately I had no idea it will cost so much like that and it exceeded my budget.
So I didn't have sufficient funds on me anymore to cater for the attorney legal binding fee, so due to the urgent news the lawyer explained to me concerning friday been the last day for submission, I had to plead and ask a friend of mine that also works at the same office with me but is currently in Nigeria for a freelance job in the AOL global funding. And as faith will have it he was willing to assist with the remaining part of the payments of 315pounds so you can refund it back to him this morning.
So please refund this fee back to him in Nigeria this morning using the following details he sent over...

Receivers: Mr . Ibinabo Princewill
Payout Location. 12 Birabi str,GRA,Port Harcourt,Rivers State,Nigeria.

Please note my dear that he also paid the western union transfer charges which he sincerely explained to me was 25pounds sterling, which makes his money he used 340pounds sterling.
I will also need to send you his number and email so you can thank him personally for his help.

Please let me know once you receive this email because I already got a text from him this morning since he will be needing the funds to add up for his flight fare back home to England.

Best wishes and good luck

Richard.

Good evening

How are you doing? And how was work today?
Anyway concerning the time of call interfering with your work I understand perfectly well that is normal for that to occur at the office. So that shouldn't be a problem, feel free to call anytime you are free or less busy and ask what ever you would like.

And concerning the attorney,I did try calling his chambers this morning but I was told by his clerk that he went to Manchester and will return back to London by this evening so am guessing he should be at his chambers by tomorrow,so no need for worries he is a professional and reliable at his works.
So let's keep in touch my dear and keep me informed.

Best wishes and love from Maureen and Max.

Attn

I am glad to inform you that I have successfully been able to obtain your Visa application Approval letter from the UK home office & immigration.
I have just attached a copy of the faxed letter I received from their office this morning so you can go through.

Also Madam in line with the said date of receiving your hard copies over in your respective address in Saudi Arabia, the home office has demanded that we send over your Batch no from any courier delivery service of your choice so it can be recorded and filed in with your application within 48hrs that delivery payments has been covered before the documents are endorsed. This is very urgent Madam so I have contacted the Omni frieght courier delivery agency on your behalf for details on how to obtain your Batch no and courier your hard copy travel documents over to your address.

I have also attached the details from the courier agency to this email so you should go through it right away and get back to me with your options you have choosen along with due payments as well so we can get you a Batch no for delivery and submit within 48hrs as instructed to avoid complications.

I anticipate your reply soonest Madam

Top of the day of

We have to make payments for the DHL courier service so they can register your Batch no immediately and I can send it over to UK home office and immigration so they can file it in with your application now been processed. And remember the time frame is 48hrs and we have already exhausted so much of that time.

the DHL charges as indicated in the letter is 145 pounds sterling and also the insurance fee that will be refundable back to you after you receive your hard copy parcel on the 17th of July is not 160 pounds sterling but 190 pounds sterling, the courier agency called me and pleaded that they made a mistake.

So Madam the total sum you are to remit to this chamber so I can pay on your behalf immediately to get your registered Batch no, is 335 pounds sterling.
I don't what the time difference is with your country and the UK but due to the urgency you can plead with your employer to pay it on your behalf and maybe you pay him back tomorrow or Monday.

Get back to me as soon as you get this Madam

Sincerely yours

Barr.Raymond Hill

Top of the day top you Ms Rea,

I already got all the necessary payments sent to my chambers, and the Batch no also I have been able to obtain for the legal filling for your application over at the home office. I will send you the number tomorrow Madam because my clerk has already closed and I have been away the whole day.

this reply message was sent by me because i was not able to do the 48hours time limit that has been give with the lawyer and he ask again to his so called friend which is mentioned in the other post which waas based in nigeria for an oal work or whatevr it is.......

From:richardhopkins
Good news, he sent the payments. I couldnt write to you sooner because Maureen and I went out and we just got back home.
Ill give you further details tomorrow, but everything is settled with the lawyer now so the rest is up to him to get you all the necessary things he stated in his letter.
Ill write again tomorrow morning.

Good morning
Am sorry if I disturbed you over at work,I wanted to inform you that the lawyer already got the fee for the DHL delivery and insurance summing to 335pounds sterling. But due to the late hour the transfer charges were higher than usual as he explained.
The last money he sent for you which was 315,the charges were 25...And this charges are 45 which makes it a sum total of 380 my dear..

One more thing the lawyer said he will send you your Batch no and transcript code later today once he is settled with the home office.

All the best

by Dotti Tue Jul 12, 2011 6:57 pm
I'm sorry to say it is a scam. There is no doubt about it. There is no job, no Richard Hopkins, and no attorney. There is only a Nigerian scammer telling you stories designed to get you to send money to him.

This person is now using the same messages and phone number but a different name and email on EasyAupair.com. The name they're now using is Larry Fletcher, [email protected]

THANK YOU SO MUCH scamwarners.com!! I probably would have figured it out eventually but you definitely saved me some major heartache with your tips for identifying a scam. As you suggested, I Googled the phone number and sure enough, "Richard Hopkin" came up! (a lot of other stuff came up too...like the exact same email messages sent under the previous name.)

The scammer had photos up on the au pair website that looked like a family, and pics of the kids. Pretty believable : (

His messages to me:

Email from Larry Fletcher [email protected]
subject Re: nanny job advertisement

Hello [my name],

Thanks for the response, We are looking to hire a decent, mature, responsible,English speaking foreign aupair for our kids Max and Courtney.
Like you should already be aware Max is 5 and Courtney is just 8months old. They are both very adorable kids and very easy to get along with.
Max goes to school while Courtney stays at home with our present our present nanny.
My family offers a private live accommodation plus feeding, so our Au pair wouldn't bother about that.
Anyway that not withstanding I would like to ask you some few questions if you don't mind?
.Whats your Nationality?
.What is your religion? Do you practice it?
.Please tell me a little about your childhood and your relationship with
your family?
.Do you have a criminal record?
.What type of things do you like to do in your free time (Hobbies & interests)?
.Will you be comfortable assisting with homework? Reviewing homework?
.Will you be comfortable supervising friends of our kids during a play date while you
are in charge?
.Will you be comfortable handling some light housework around the house when need be?
.Can you drive? Can you cook?
.Do you have any allergies?
.Do you have any health related issues?
Kindly let me know the answers to the following questions as soon as possible before we proceed any further in details.

Hello [my name],

How are you today? I trust you are in good health and your family is well too?

It was really nice to get to hear from you again, thanks for the response and answers to my questions asked, my wife Maureen and I really appreciate it.
After reading through your letter I have no doubt in mind that you will make a perfect aupair and teacher for our kids.
I also think you have a good personality as well so we will consider hiring you for your services on the conditions stated below.

Salary ranges from ?800 monthly and a weekly allowance for personal needs of ?150pounds sterling.
You will be expected to work for approximately 30-35 hours per week, and have the weekends off. But Of course there could be over time payments and allowances if ever you get to work during the weekends and babysit.

And as regards arrangements, this would be our very first time to hire an aupair from outside the UK so my family unlike most host families here will be willing to cater for your all round flight expenses, work permit/visa processing fees and Airport pick up. Plus we provide a conducive private live in accommodation in our home and feeding as well for the duration of time spent with us.
But am afraid you will have to be solely responsible for handling the attorney legal binding fees for your hard copy Contract agreement and immigration endorsements which as I am now aware of should be legally certified over at the Home office since you will be working here with us as an Au pair.

So if you agree and you are comfortable with these terms do let me know as soon as possible because like I mentioned we have never hired an aupair from outside the UK before, but a family friend of mine at the office who also had her Au pair come in from Australia couple of months back has promised to refer us to a reliable attorney who works directly with the UK Home office that assisted with hers as well.
He should prepare and legally issue out to you a copy of the Contract letter and other necessary legal guidelines for a permit procurement and any relevant detail we might need to make this application a total success.

But first let me tell you a little bit more about my family and give you a brief insight on our neighbourhood....,

Maureen is a teacher in a local high school not too far from the house, she teaches physical education to a wide range of pupils.
I on the other hand work as a Real estate agent,am involved in buying, selling long & short term leasing of properties in and outside the shores of London and Hampshire.
We are down to earth people, easy going not arrogant,we respect our employees opinions very much.
Our kids are very adorable and we love them so much and so will you I hope.

I leave for work early in the morning 7.30am,about the same time my wife does, Max leaves at 8.30am comes in by 2.00pm.
He gets the school bus from across the road. So you would typically be free off Max from 8.30am each morning until school closes in the afternoon, then you look after him and Courtney until we arrive home.

In the morning the whole family takes breakfast together and Max loves to eat cereals or oat meals, its his favourite.
He also enjoys playing video games & a little bit of soccer outside the lawn when he wants to get messy but don't worry you should get used to it in no time if you choose to proceed with your application with my family.
Courtney on the other hand is a very calm child, she hardly ever cry's and thats more of a relief for you on this job because she adapts easily to strangers.

About our neighbourhood...
We have a train and bus station not too far from the house, there is also a language school and park where folks go to spend quality time and relax or walk their dogs.
We don't have a beach close by, but you will require to drive not too far to get to one, we sometimes go there during the weekends to spend quality time together and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere because we believe family and happiness comes first before anything else.

Kindly let me know what the outcome might be in due course so we are prepared, and I will also love to speak to you over the phone so please let me know when will be convenient for you.

My mobile again is (+44)70 457 08 437, please feel free to call anytime

Best wishes

Larry

Hello googlia, and welcome to ScamWarners. Thank you for posting these scam mails. We had a warning about the scammer calling himself Larry Fletcher here:

viewtopic.php?f=42&t=26442

but, as you can see, he has now slightly changed his email address, so it is unlikely that any au pairs googling for information would find that warning. Now that you have posted his new email address, this will lead au pairs to your information - thank you for helping others in this way.

It is always sensible to google the details of anyone who contacts you by email; and I'm glad that you were very wise, and googled the phone number as well.
