The phone number given is not a normal UK number, but like all phone numbers which being +4470 or +44070, it is a 'redirect' number which redirects all calls to the scammer's mobile phone in Nigeria. You can read more about this type of number here:

Hello sinamorata, and welcome to ScamWarners. I'm glad that you researched this fake family, and discovered that it is a scam.

Thank you so much for posting this scammer's new email addresses and the photographs which he sent to you - this will be so helpful for other au pairs who are also researching to find out whether or not this family is genuine.

Scammers steal photographs from innocent people, downloading them from innocent people's Facebook or MySpace profiles, or from their personal websites, etc. Therefore I've marked the photographs with 'Used by Scammer' to make it clear that the people in these photographs are not scammers; the scammer has just stolen their photos to use.

This also prevents other scammers from downloading them from here and using them for their scams too.

It is upsetting for anyone to discover that their pictures are being used by scammers in this way, and even more upsetting to find that their children's photos are also being used. So I've also blurred the child's face in the photographs.

Thank you once again for your post - this will help to warn other au pairs about this scam, and prevent them from having their money stolen by this scammer.

Unfortunately, the IP address will only lead to an internet cafe used by hundreds of people. The name connected to the IP address won't be the scammer himself, he will simply be a contact person for the ISP.

The best thing you can do now is completely ignore the scammer. If you really feel the need to respond, simply tell him that you are no longer interested in the job, or that you contacted the Polish Embassy and they said that you don't need those documents, so you are not going to work for someone who doesn't do his research. Then just don't answer anything else from him or anyone connected to him.

What you don't want to do is point out that he is listed here. When you do that, you won't stop him from scamming again, but he will likely change his fake name and email address, which means the next person he tries to scam won't find his new name listed here.

The messages you posted are typical of a scammer. Notice how he started accusing you and basically threatening to take the job away when you started to ask too many questions about the documents you need. Then he got very defensive and sarcastic when you said you were going to contact the embassy. He responded that way because he wanted you to feel bad about doubting him, and to be so afraid of losing the job that you would stop asking questions. He knew that if you contacted the embassy, they would tell you that you don't need to pay for those documents, and then he wouldn't get any money from you--so everything he said and did was to keep you from looking for the truth.

This is a very typical approach of scammers. A real host family would understand why you are asking questions, and they would help you to get the correct information. But for a scammer, the more questions you ask, the more likely he is not going to get your money, so the scammer will do everything possible to keep you from searching for information, or they will insist that you only talk to themselves or the person they send you to.

We understand what you are trying to do. Unfortunately, it is not that simple.

As the Polish police already told you, he didn't get any money, therefore he has not committed a crime at this point. The truth is, even if he had gotten money, there would be little the Polish police can do. He is in Nigeria, and they have no authority in Nigeria.

-You don't know his real name or where he lives.
-He is using an internet cafe used by hundreds of people.
-He is using web-based email, which means the emails aren't on his hard drive to read.
-Most importantly, he is based in Lagos, an area that is full of scammers and notorious for corruption. It's hard to imagine, but it is a very different world. If you knew his real name and information, the police are much more likely to go to him and demand a share of the profits than they are to arrest him. Scamming is big money there, and there are many people who profit from these scams besides the scammers themselves. Law enforcement, Western Union employees, internet cafe employees -- many of them can be bought for just a small bribe. There was video a few years ago of an EFCC raid on an internet cafe full of scammers (The EFCC is the national Nigerian agency responsible for this type of crime)--the people outside the cafe were actually throwing stones at the officials who were entering the cafe to arrest the scammers. Some of these scammers will even pray in church for more victims to be delivered to them! The truth is, unless someone can prove the scammer has lost hundreds of thousands of dollars and there are multiple agencies involved, he is not going to be arrested.

That is why we focus on educating potential victims. Teaching people how to be safe and avoid being scammed is the most effective prevention right now. We are also careful not to educate scammers (for example, pointing out that it is not normal for a boy to wear pink and play with dolls will actually help the scammer, as he will now change that part of the script and make it more believable.) The more mistakes he makes, the more likely the next person he tries to scam will be suspicious.

You need to remember that he is a criminal, and he has your real life information, possibly including a copy of your passport. While he is not going to show up at your doorstep, you do not need him to get angry and start using your ID in future scams, or to report you to your email provider as a scammer, or to use your address as a return address for scams, or even to post lies all over the internet about you because he is angry that you played with him. Those things can't physically hurt you, but they can cause problems for you, and we have seen scammers do these things many times. That is why we tell you to cut off all contact with the scammer, and not keep playing with him. When we bait scammers (play with them and lead them to think we will pay) we do it safely, using all fake information. We have a whole website (419eater.com) dedicated to baiting, and safety is always our first priority.

The best thing you can do at this point is drop him now, without further games.

Hello Paula, if you stop all contact with this scammer immediately, then he is unlikely to harass you. Many au pairs realise that they are writing to a scammer and stop contact; other au pairs simply lose interest in this fake host family. The scammer will be accustomed to being dropped.

But if you continue communicating with him once you know that he is a scammer, and he suspects that you are just wasting his time (and money - he has to pay for phone calls and his time at the internet café), that is when he could become angry.

Just ignore and delete his emails from now on, block him from Messenger, and don't speak to him on the phone. If you accidentally answer his phone call or he contacts you on Chat before you have time to block him, tell him, 'I am no longer interested, goodbye.' And then end the call or Chat.

He may try to contact you again from a different email address, pretending to be a different host family, so also be alert about this possibility
