Hello Francesca,
Thank you for your interest in looking after our son, xxxxx - I have attached a picture so you can see him and our house.
We are not in London, but not far by train......we live in a little village and it is a 10 walk to the bus but we have two big towns nearby.
I did mention in the advert that you would have use of the car....but unfortunately I have now found out that the insurers will not insure someone without a 2 year uk licence......would this be ok?
It would be from 20th July at the latest and xxxxx goes back to school on the 7th September - are the dates ok with you?
If that is all ok, when would be a good time to call you?
Regards

Frist mail: Dear Au pair

We have been looking for someone to look after our kids since our last au pair left and we feel you are the right choice. We live in the Sub-Urbs of San Francisco, California. Its a beautiful city you are sure to love it here. The job pays $700 weekly and you will work for 35 hours a week. There is so much more to discuss so if you are interested get back to us and we will gladly work things out.

Paul and Mitchell Willis

Second Mail: Hello
How are you doing, thanks for getting back to us we're really happy
you are interested in this job. I wanted you to know more about the
girls and our family so I wrote you a little something. We have two
daughters, Alice is 5 years old and Betty is 3 years old. They are all
pretty similar Betty always wants to do what her older sister does and
Alice wants to be just like mommy.
They both love playing with their toys and playing dress up, they have
lots of friends and spend time in the kids playground. We try as much
as possible to have some quality time as a family at the weekends
because our week days are all filled with work. We go see movies or to
the park or museum. Every once a while we take them by their school
and we hook up with the other kids and parents and have some fun.
When it comes to food I must say we are quite indifferent, We could
anything if it is cooked right and the girls are quite the same. When
it come to preference we do like Italian food and French wine. We have
a pool so we do spend time there for some R and R, a family close by
has barbecues every month and its a special occasion in the
neighborhood and you'd be invited to come with us too.
We live in a very good neighborhood in San Francisco, California, lots
of families, kids, malls, schools. It really peaceful and a very good
place to raise your kids. Some of the other families do have au pairs
here I am just not familiar with them but I guess when you come over
you can get to know them.
Paul is a pilot for a private airliner and Mitchell is a nurse at the
local hospital.
I hope you enjoy my little write up about my family. Please tell us
more about you and confirm you are ready for this job
Cheers!
Paul, Mitchell and Kids

third Mail:Dear Francesca
It was really nice to hear from you again and we are so happy to have
you as our next au pair. We had so much fun with our last au pair and
wish everything will work out just as well with you. You seem very
interesting and we will sure make your stay with us the best time you
can have.
Here your job description on a daily basis, how soon do you think you
can start and the contract is for at least 6 months to a maximum of
one year.
From Monday to Friday
You are expected to begin work by 8:00 am in the morning, get the kids
breakfast ready and get them dressed and packed for school. We leave
for work about 8:45 and so will you when you go drop the kids off. If
you can drive there will be a car for you to use if not there is a bus
which passes through and the school is only 10 minutes away.
From this time on you will be required to do some housework (Kids
laundry, light cleaning). You will also run any errands for us during
this time like grocery shopping etc. The kids laundry will be done by
machine wash 3 times a week
Afternoon meals for the kids will be prepared by you. When you get
here we will work out a meal schedule for the kids diet.
By 12:00 you should be at the kids school to pick them up and take
them back home, they eat lunch by 1:00 am. We expect you will help
them with their school work where you can and also engage them in any
activities to keep them occupied. They have some friends in the
neighborhood and whenever they go to visit you will be with them.
We get off by 5:00 pm so we expect to be home before 6:00 pm when you
will close for the day. You will have the weekends off however if we
need you we will let you know in time and work out the payment.
Your room is a single room with a private bathroom, it comes equipped
with a TV, laptop and we will give you a cell phone when you get here
so we can call you at any time we need to.
These is just a day in your life while here with us there is still
alot more but we will put that into the contract. I need to know you
understand the job well so we look forward to hearing from you soon
and we can speak over the phone too.
Best Wishes,
Paul, Mitchell and Kids

4th mail: Good day!
Good to know we have sorted some things out regarding your duties, I'd
like to confirm again how long you intend on staying and how soon you
can start. We need to sort out things concerning your trip here.
when our last au pair was coming over, we contracted travel
consultants who handled and arranged her flight here within a short
period of time. Here is their website http://www.usaaupair.webs.com/
and their email is [email protected], send them an email and find out
what you will need to get here. They were very efficient and we were
all very happy with them. I trust they will do well for you too. We
will cover the cost of the actual flight (Plane Tickets), while you
will cover the cost of procuring your visa.
I hope your passport is ready because you will need it. I also need
you to provide me with your full name, residential address and contact
number.
We'd really love to hear back from you so have a wonderful day and
don't forget to smile.
Best Wishes,

1st mail: Thanks for the intro message.
Our page
http://www.easyaupair.com/viewprofilefamily/29259/
Anyway - the job :-
Ideally start at at the beginning of september 2011, maybe one week earlier
We can be a little flexible.
One girl - Penny (11)
One boy - Ed (will be 9 soon)
Bishopstone Wiltshire, England, SN6 8PX (Look it up on the net - it is NOT the Bishopstone in south wiltshire!!)
Small village with school, village hall, pub. Easy access to London/Swindon/Bath/Bristol/Oxford.
A lot of social life is around the pub, which is an upmarket local pub (Royal Oak) that attracts diners
from afar as it has a good food reputation. It is run by the local farm.
Standard stuff otherwise, getting ready for school, pick up afterwards, occasional babysitting.
We employ cleaners once a week so none of that!
We intend to get an extra small car for au pair use.
We are also looking at moving to a local bigger house at the moment, initially your room is
likely to be not in our house but very close in the same village
(We pay for it and it would be self contained - not living with another family).
Weekends would be pretty much your own, maybe the occasional request for a bit of flexibility.
If you are interested then we will have a telephone or skype chat and see how it goes.
We prefer a longer term commitment (at least three months)
Please email back with any questions you may have.
Keith and Hilary

2n dmail: Thanks for the very quick reply,
Right now I am getting together details of a few applicants and I will discuss with my wife (and the children of course) before contacting everyone who has replied. We hope to be able to do this within the next two weeks.
note that your maximum work period is 9 months. What are your have plans after that?

I don't have much time right now, but did a quick look through them. Some of these could go either way, while others are definite scams.

The first:
I would need to see more from them, but so far the language looks more African than British--most likely scam, but would need more to know for certain.

-The second:
not enough info yet.

The third:
not enough info yet.

The 4th:
not enough info yet.

The 5th:
This one is a definite scam. The scammer mentions a real agency, but then gives you a fake AOL address that doesn't belong to the agency.

Thank you, Dotty!
I'm a little bit worried because I sent some my photos to these families. Do you think that they could use them in the future?
by Chris Fuller Fri Jun 10, 2011 6:00 am
Hi Wings ... Most au pairs who are writing to scammers will send their photographs, as well as their resumé and maybe a scan of their passport too. The scammers are not really interested in these things (they only ask for them in order to appear authentic), and usually don't even bother to look at them.

It is true that a scammer could use anything that you sent him and pretend that it is his own; but it is unlikely that an au pair scammer will do this; he will usually have a specific idea of what type of person he is pretending to be, and he will search Facebook and MySpace and other websites looking for photos of families that match that description.

However, if in future you would like to be more careful, I suggest that you use a graphics programme to watermark your photos with your email address before sending them out - then it is very unlikely that they will be stolen. Make sure that the watermark covers the faces of anyone who is the photo, so it cannot be cropped. For additional safety, set up a new disposable email address (eg Gmail, Yahoo) for this 'watermark' purpose only, and don't use it for anything else.

I've just received a massage from "Mr Borwn" [email protected] (I sent an email yesterday to tell him that I was no more interested in his job offer, but he still wrote to me):

Hello,
How are you doing? hope everything is well with you?I can recommend an agency for you here in England,if you might have problem in getting a reputable and experience traveling agent in this field, i can recommend the one that handled my last Au pair's document and they have been working with me for the past 5 years now, they are good, perfect and working hard and it will be better if you can contact them, their charges are affordable and they are affiliated to British airways and approved by the commonwealth body and the British Government.I want you to know that you can come here and you can stay and work for me as long as you like. Also I share your view about getting into London legally. I want you to have all the necessary documents you need to come here before the end of this month or early next month. You can contact them personally via this information as my schedule at the office is tight .
NAME: Mrs.Elizabeth .H.James
EMAIL ADDRESS: [email protected]
Contact the agency and make inquiries regarding the document for you to come to London and i am going to be the one to pay for your flight ticket, all you need to do is to contact the agency for the processing of your visa and document to come to my family here, when you have contacted them they will tell you all you need to get here.Anyway if this is fine, contact the agency and let me know if £1,400.00 will be ok per calendar month as your salary and you will be working for 35-40 hours per week, all other things would be free.i will appreciate it if you like to take care of my lil girl well.
hope to read from you soonest.

Philip...

So, when I've answered him:

I Know that You are a scammer. Don't try to contact me anymore, thanks!

This has been your answer:

"fuck you..."

Ok, I'm really angry
by Dotti Fri Jun 10, 2011 3:33 pm
Unfortunately, that is very typical of these scammers. Not only are they trying to steal your money, they actually get angry and aggressive with you for not letting them steal it!

It's likely he won't try to contact you again, but if he does, just ignore him.

Hi, I received a new email from xxxxxx@yahoo.com (the first that I posted in this topic):

"Hi Francesca

Nice to hear from you - my name is xxxxxx never Mr

Well where do I start, I live in London and only have my daughter at holiday time so you will have not much to do until she arrives. During the quiet time I would like you to help around the home and perhaps travel with me when I work as I also need someone to look after me? is that you?

The pay is not a problem for the right girl and I happy to pay what you want so long as we both get what we want from the period you can stay.

Im sure there are many questions you have so just ask me and I will give you an honest answer.

Take care

Regards"

I think He could be a scammer. What do you think about him?
by Chris Fuller Mon Jun 13, 2011 2:02 am
Hi Wings, that is not a typical scammer's email, and the expressions, grammar, and spellings are what one would expect from a British person. Therefore there is a very high chance that this man is genuine - so, for his privacy, I'll remove his email address and name from this thread, as I did with the other correspondent who was discovered not to be scammer.

Sometimes men without children at home who advertise for au pairs are looking for for 'more' than just help around the house, and this is something to bear in mind when replying to emails from men who want you to accompany them on trips, etc. This may not be the situation with this particular man, of course, but it is something to be aware of in general.

Welcome to ScamWarners. I am not sure what you mean by protect your email address. Will you explain a bit more what you are looking for?

If you are not looking for a job an an au pair, you can most likely block emails which come to your email address with that word.

Yes, both of those are scams. Just ignore them.

I still do not know if you are looking for work as an au pair. Many locations have specific laws or limitations on au pairs. Check with your government in Bulgaria and the country you want to work in for the current regulations or requirements.
