Scams offering fake Au Pair positions
by Chris Fuller Wed Jul 27, 2011 7:08 am
This is not a genuine au pair opportunity; it is a scam. This scammer uses the same redirect telephone number when he is pretending to be other host families; you can see this here:

Cullen Ramsey

on 12 february I recieved an email from a man calling himself dr. Clifford Wesley, a doctor at the Moorfield Eye Hospital asking me to become their 4 year old son's au pair and sent me a contract letter which I had to sign and mail back to the UK Home Office... After searching the adress given to me in Chelsea London I was very excited because it looked amazing. due tot he fact that I am a 20 year old femaile from Cape Town, South Africa and not used to people trying to scam me I writtenly agreed to the terms and conditions but something bothered me. i could not find this person on the Hospitals list not anything about him on the internet and so i became more hesitant. i've been asking them to Skype with with me before I sign anything but they were not willing to and claimed that they had a pervious aupair, leonard cole, from spain with his emailadress [email protected]. when i typed this name in on the internet It linked me with THIS site and the same man claiming to be a host family....all of the documents are exactly the same... there were even a place where they named their son Darren and later Cole... These people are using a bunch of names over and over again! THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!! I feel i owe you my life!!! I'm so in shock that I cant even sleep! thank u very much!! being from a small town near Cape Town we are not used to things like this and when opertunities like this come our way we jump at it! Thank You for saving my life! My biggest fear was that they would traffic me if I found out to late that it was a scam or sell me to some or other place... Thank you so much!! Really! God bless you! thank YOU!!!

Hello Annekjooste,

I'm glad that you were wise and researched the family that you were communicating with.

In reality, citizens of South Africa are not eligible to go to the UK as au pairs. You can read about the only countries who are eligible for a visa here:

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas ... ityscheme/

If you also click on 'Conditions of your stay' on the left hand side of that webpage, you will be able to confirm that this is the correct visa for au pairs.

Hi all
I do not know if I understand, and please help in the confirmation information.
I live in Poland and a man named Clifford Wesley wrote to me and wants me to his child caring for her four year old boy named Darren.
Email sent to me pictures of his family and son. I do not know what to do.
I do not know what to believe.
Does this man really is whether an ordinary liar?
Help me not want to commit some error.
Greetings to all on the forum of Polish Marta

Welcome to Scamwarners, Marta!

Yes, this is a scam. The man pretending to be Clifford Wesley is most likely a young African man sitting in an internet cafe in Nigeria.

Ten cz?owiek jest okrzykni?ty k?amc?. On nie posiadaj? pracy dla was. Przystanek kontakt przy nim; on chce jedynie kradn? ciebie pieni?dze.

How did they steal money from me?
How do they do?
Since I come to them with no money and I want to earn money from them and what next?
Do they do something strange with the women on which it will become and eats?
Do you deal with this issue some sort of police?
Do they take a woman for example, to escort?
Is this Clifford already tricked a woman?
Or did someone hurt?
Do you know anything about this?
I got the pictures from the family, I wonder who is on them?
Thank you for the information and best regards Marta

Hi Marta,

Do not contact them. Drop contacts asap.

Scam description:
the classic setting for this scam is that they will ask you to provide personal information for travel papers (visa, work permits and so on).

(Remember that all EU citizens enjoy freedom of movement, thus do not need any visa).

Then they will tell you that these papers are going to cost you some money, and ask you to wire money most probably by Western Union or MoneyGram. Then they will come with other fees and so on.

As Helen Halper said, they have nothing to offer you. Photos they sent you may be stolen from internet, not their own photo. Clifford is most probably a fake name used by scammers.
Notice that +4470 phone numbers are redirect numbers, i.e. can be answered by anyone in any place in the world (including Nigeria, Malaysia, etc.). These numbers are a frequent element in scams.

Hello Marta and welcome to ScamWarners.

The scammers are only interested in stealing potential au pair's money. They do this by makeing up pretend fees that have to be paid to a travel agency (also the scammer using another email address).

The scammer is not in the country that they pretend to be in, they are operating out of an Internet cafe somewhere in Africa.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

As I mentioned I live in Poland and not really understand everything that I write.
Should I report to any authorities?
Is there a chance that suffered the consequences?
Should I continue writing with Clifford and also end the conversation?
Regards

You can report it to the authorities, but there is little that they can do as the scammer is in Africa in an Internet cafe.

If you stop writing to the scammer, then there is nothing that he can do to you, except write a few emails to you. You have nothing to gain from continuing to write to him.
