Scams offering fake Au Pair positions
by eelinagustafsson Mon Aug 15, 2011 7:18 pm
I've applied to become an au pair at different websites and I have got alot of answers.
Their is 2 people I'm interested in but I'm nor sure if it's fake. Can someone help me?

Family 1:
Hello Elina,

How are you today? I trust you are in good health and your family is well too?

Thanks for the response. I just went through your profile again and also shared your photo with my family and they really liked it.
I think you have a good sense of humour and good personality as well so we will consider hiring you for your services on the conditions stated below.

Salary ranges from $1000 monthly and a weekly allowance for personal needs of $200.
You will be expected to work for approximately 30-35 hours per week, and have the weekends off. But Of course there could be over time payments and allowances if ever you get to work during the weekends and babysit.

And as regards arrangements, my family unlike most host families here will be willing to cater for your all round flight expenses, work visa/permit legal processing fees and Airport pick up. Plus we provide a conducive private live in accommodation in our home and feeding as well for the duration of time spent with us.
But am afraid you will have to be solely responsible for handling the Attorney
binding fee for your legal Contract agreement and endorsements which as I am now aware of should be legally certified over at the Home office since you will be working here with us as a Domestic worker/Au pair.

So if you agree and you are comfortable with these terms my dear do let me know as soon as possible because we have never hired an aupair from outside the US before, but a family friend of mine at the office who also had her Au pair come in from Australia couple of months back has promised to refer us to a reliable attorney who works directly with the US Home office that assisted with hers as well.
He should prepare and legally issue out to you a copy of your Contract letter and other necessary legal guidelines for visa procurement and anything else we might need to make this application a total success.

But first let me tell you a little bit more about my family and give you a brief insight on the city and neighbourhood....,

Maureen is a teacher in a local high school not too far from the house, she teaches physical education to a wide range of pupils.
I on the other hand work as a Real estate agent,am involved in buying, selling long & short term leasing of properties in and outside the shores of California.
We are down to earth people, easy going not arrogant,we respect our employees opinions very much. Our daughters are very adorable and we love them so much and so will you I hope.

I leave for work early in the morning 7.30am,about the same time my wife does, Reece leaves at 8.00am comes in by 2.00pm.
she gets the school bus from across the road. Courtney should be taken to the day care center not too far from the house by 9.00am,So you would typically be free from 9.00am each morning until pick up time in the afternoon, then you look after them until we arrive home.

In the morning the whole family takes breakfast together, the girls usually eat cereals or oat meals, its their favourite.
They also enjoy playing video games & a little bit of hide and seek in the lawn or in the toy house.

And about the city and neighbourhood...
It is very lovely here, as we always have nice weather and the tall palm trees to keep warm and sheltered most of the time.
The people here are very friendly and easy to interact with. There are so many places to explore here and things to do in California that's why its called the Sunshine state and am sure you will love it because many foreigners reside here too.

We have a train and bus station not too far from the house, there is also a language school and park where folks go to spend quality time and relax or walk their dogs.
We have a beach close by, so you will not require to drive far to get to one, we sometimes go there during the weekends to spend quality time together and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

One more thing just in case you agree to the terms ,I want you to know we are a religious family, so we attend services every Wednesdays & Sundays.

And If I may ask you some questions,do you practice your religion as well?

.Please tell me a little about your own childhood and your relationship with
your family?

.What type of things do you like to do in your free time?

.Are you comfortable assisting with homework? Reviewing homework?

.Are you comfortable supervising friends of our daughters during a play date while you
are in charge?

Kindly let me know what the possible outcome might be in due course so we are prepared, and I will also love to speak to you over the phone so please let me know when will be convenient for you.

Best wishes

Brian Walter
For the family.

Family 2:
Their first mail:
Goodday Elina,

This is Steve & Johanna Bonner, Mia our 14 month old, super baby girl writing to you from s sunny California. In August 2011 we will have to say goodbye to our awesome Aupair who stayed with us for 6 months and are now looking for another. We live in sunny California and are the proud parents of an 14 month old, super baby girl named Mia! She is amazing, fast on her feet or knees and very smart so we are seeking someone who loves to play all day, challenge her mentally and help her grow to her fullest potential. Most important is that this Aupair enjoy life with our baby when we are not around, care for her, walks, trips to the park and blend well with our silly sense of humor family. If you do not have a good sense of humor you might not enjoy our family as much

I am Californian business man and work a lot while my wife Johanna is from Germany and working on her board exams to complete her American MD. So we are pretty busy in addition to living a very spontaneous life. Having someone to assist us in all of this is the goal.

We live in a reasonably large home with just us so our Aupair gets a master bedroom to herself on the bottom floor. We are on the second floor in a 5 bedroom home. Pool, Deck, Jacuzzi, Theater Room, tons of music and movies...we are very much movie buffs with a collection over 3000. Music is another passion of mine with a collection over 30,000 cd's. If you are music lover...you will be in heaven.

What do you expect from your au pair?

Mia is just starting to talk. We want her to learn German as well as English so we are looking for an au pair who can speak both languages reasonably well. English is a must our you will never get my jokes!

Basic household chores as one would have at home, cooking is a big bonus that I love but not a must. Many candidates have cooking backgrounds which is a big plus for me!

Flexibility and fun in addition to an assumed love for children and watching them blossom are really the two most important attributes our Aupair must possess. This is not a rock science deal. You are playing with a baby, changing diapers, bathing, etc. Personality means a lot to us because that is what also is passed onto our baby. I can get over a bad sense of humor from a boring person but my baby does not know better! :)

Our lives are also full of fun activities and we are on the go quite a bit so an adventurous, outdoors type person, enjoys sports, concerts, etc. is a good fit for us. We tend to drag our Aupair around with us, spoil her a bit and show her a good time. Life is about having fun for us and doing it all so if your coming this way...be ready for anything from the sunny beach to the snowy mountains to sailing on the windy bay and everything in between. So if that sounds interesting to you, just drop us an email ([email protected]) and feel free to ask us anything you would like to know

Their second mail:

We need an Au pair due to my work and my husband. We are always busy and we believe our kid (Mia) need someone not as an Aupair/Nanny alone but as part like a friend.

My husband is business man and work a lot .We visit our Parents during the weekend, Mia likes been around friends and loves watching Cartoons go to the Amusement park and Cinemas..We believe she will love been with you all the time.

We promise you will never regret coming into my Family. We don't want you as an Au pair alone but part of my Family also like a Friend,we believe you know all about my Family? We will like you to tell me more about your country,Family,Culture and Weather.Moreso, We will like you to tell us what you will do to make Mia happy.

We will want to know if you have your travel Visa and working permit to the State and if you don't have any document We will want you to contact the Travel Visa Application Agency that will help you with your Visa, working permit,Plane ticket and Ehic Card for your trip to US cause we don't want anything to happen to you at the airport...They help our last Au pair in document processing. [email protected]

You can see many similarities in this scam mail and the one sent by the scammer calling himself Richard Hopkins:

viewtopic.php?f=42&t=18515

including:

Maureen is a teacher in a local high school not too far from the house, she teaches physical education to a wide range of pupils.
I on the other hand work as a Real estate agent,am involved in buying, selling long & short term leasing of properties in and outside the shores of London.

by Arnold Tue Aug 16, 2011 8:22 am
That's a scam too. The English tells me it was written by a West African.

by Justin Tue Aug 16, 2011 9:06 am
As Arnold said 100% scam. The writing style is West African on American. Scammers often claim to be engineers and just reading that bit I knew it was a scam.

One thing that may be helpful is googling a sentence or two from the emails. Scammers are not very creative so several scammers use the same modified script.

Google this sentence and see what you find.

Well my main reason for contacting you is to inform you that i will be needing your service as my Au pair for my two lovely kids here in USA..

There are some more tips on identifying au pair scammers here:

Overview of Au Pair Scams

It is also useful to know the real regulations for becoming an au pair in countries which you hope to travel to. For example, if you are looking for an au pair position in the USA, please read these US Government webpages about the US Au Pair Program:

http://exchanges.state.gov/jexchanges/p ... upair.html

http://j1visa.state.gov/participants/how-to-apply/

You will notice that an individual family in the USA is not permitted to directly engage you as an au pair; it is not permitted by US immigration law.

Hello Au-pair/nanny Job Consultant http://www.aupairplacement.com

We are going through Au-pair/nanny search and we came across your email. We are a cheerful, friendly family in London UK.

we have one happy kid ,Jacob who attend the local school between 9 and 1.00 every day.

We live in a very large modern family house with six bedrooms, three bathrooms,

Description of tasks:

We are looking for someone to get Jacob ready in the morning, prepare and clear up the
family's breakfast at about 7.30am, make the beds, and take the Jacob to school, which is about a 1.5km walk away.

The au pair would then need to pick him up at 1.00 and look after him until we get home.

We might ask the au pair to baby-sit 1-2 evenings a week.

We have a really great cleaner, so there wouldn't be any heavy housework. There is a bit of light cleaning and laundry which would take about 90 minutes a day in total. There would be plenty of time free in the day to go to language school, and there are a lot of good ones in the area.

Living arrangements:

The au pair would have her own room, which is huge, and has a double bed, with sitting area and TV/DVD/Video/Hifi. There is wireless broadband internet in the house.

You can even use one of our car all weekend! Also 2 weeks are paid holiday during Christmas/New Year plus another 2 weeks during the year. We are looking for someone with a good sense of humour.

If you love children and could help us provide a loving environment combining routine and fun for Jacob, then we would like to welcome you to our family as a friend and a big sister to our kids. Housework is not an important part of the aupair job, being part of our family and helping our child develop and learn is the main thing. We are really flexible.

Working hours:

07.30 to 09.00 and 1600 to 1950 Plus about 60-90 minutes of housework a day to fit in with the aupair's schedule. Some Friday afternoons off. Total 25-30 hours a week.

Benefits :

We will be paying you 3100 pounds for every four weeks.A pocket money of 430 pounds per week. And you will also be having your own car.

We take care of our Aupair visa work permits and air ticket with our British Embassy in London.

Other information:

The au pair would be part of the family, and we certainly don't expect a servant! We have had lots of au pairs in the past, and we are used to helping people get to know the area and make friends, send down your cv resume and international passport for contract if interested so that you will join by this month or next month.

Send your photo and cv resume with international passport @ to…… [email protected]

Regards
