I checked the IP address and it's from Columbus in the USA so I dunno..

Welcome Batzi,

I got as far as the second paragraph before it was clear that it was a scam. The writer is clearly African, not American. The Columbus IP is likely a proxy.

Even if it weren't obvious it is written by an African, it would still be a scam. The US has strict requirements for au pair visas. One of those requirements is that the au pair has to be sponsored through an agency on the government's approved organization list. http://j1visa.state.gov/participants/how-to-apply/sponsor-search/?program=Au%20Pair&state=any In other words, if you have not worked with one of the approved organizations, there is no way you can get a job as an au pair in the United States.

Sometimes scammers will pretend to be an agency. That's why it is extremely important that you go to the US government's website and review the information there. If the contact information (phone number, address, website) do not match what is posted on the government's website, then it is a scammer posing as a legitimate agency.

Here are the email addresses used by this scammer:

From: Priscilia Marc <[email protected]>
Reply-To: [email protected]
Subject: Dear Au pair/Nanny

This scammer uses the [email protected] address when pretending to be many different host families. You can see this here:

Anderson McCollin
Kate Morris
Elena Paulsen
Dr Williams Janet
Betty Scholes

As Dotti says, this scammer does use proxy IP addresses, including a Ukrainian proxy, but has also sent emails without using a proxy, and then the IP addresses show that those emails are sent from Nigeria, eg 82.128.3.102 - Lagos, Nigeria.
