Scams offering fake Au Pair positions
by ethannia Sun Oct 30, 2011 12:52 pm
Hello everyone!!

I'm registered at the site aupair.com and I recieved 2 job offers as au pair.
I need to check if it's a scam, first looked ok, but now they are asking me for depositing money for UK visa to a travel agency, and I don't trust on that, that's why I want to know if exist a way to check it.
It became suspicious because the agency contact ends on a hotmail.com address, and almost all serious bussiness don't use hotmail accounts, and second, I don't know how works in UK, but which I know is that visa proceess takes a little long and they said they will give my document in 3-7 days, :S I've never done a visa process but I don't think it will take A WEEK only. I will copy the emails I think its a scam but I want to confirm it and if its a scam aware to other girls of it.
Thanks!!
(sorry for my bad english hahaa)

this is the suspicious e-mail

Hello XXX,

How are you doing today? Thanks for your mail. I am glad that you are willing and ready to work for me. About the English course, you don't have to worry much, i will take care of that when you get here... Thanks for giving me your phone number, i will call you when i am less busy.

I will like you to start at the beginning of next month, that is November. Is that Ok by you?

Since you don't have a UK Visa, i will like to recommend you to a travel agency here in London: [email protected]. I am registered member in this travel agency, they have all my files and they keep record of all the Au pair that work for me.

Now i want you to write to them: [email protected], tell them you you want to apply for a UK Visa to work for Mr XXX Family. Let me know as soon as you write to them and get back to me with an update from them.

Have a nice day, God bless. ^_^

Warmest regards,

Mr XXX Family

He replied my message, asking for a videocall on skype (to make sure who I''m talking with) and he response me this

Hello XXX,

Thanks for your swift response, i am glad to hear from you again. It is my pleasure to be of help to you as your employer...

I am sorry, i don't have Skype and i don't chat online due to the nature of my job. I am a very busy man, i hope you understand. However you can reach me on my number; +447024073xxx.
You don't need to make an appointment with the UK embassy there, everything will be arranged here in London. You have nothing to worry about, everything is going to be fine. I will like to know when you intend to make your own part of the payment to the travel agency so that i will know when to pay the balance for you and meet up with the travel agency requirements.

I told Laura what you said, she is very nervous and can't wait to meet with you. She is saying to you once again, have a nice weekend and God bless your home. ^_^

Warmest regards,

Mr XXX Family

IT'S ALL BULLSHIT ETHANNIA. PLEASE LOOK WITH CARE AT BORDER AGENCY WEBSITE,
IT IS ILLEGAL FOR AGENTS IN UK TO WORK AS VISA CONSULTANTS UNLESS THEY ARE REGISTERED OR A SOLICITOR.
TRAVEL AGENTS ARRANGE HOLIDAYS AND TICKETS AND NOT VISAS.
110% SCAM AND PLEASE SEND NO MONEY.
YOU CAN ASK THE AUPAIR AGENCY IF IT IS REAL, BUT IT ISN'T ANYWAY.

+447024073xxx. Is a forward number to Nigeria, not a UK one.
Please give us all the number and any email addresses you haven't included, such as from the fake family. Please come back with any other job offers . Any ones that say WESTERN UNION are a scam. In fact any mail that suggests the same under any circumstance from fake soldiers or people in romance or social networks are scams too. NEVER PART WITH MONEY THIS WAY.

I made a fairly simple guide here. I hope it is simple !!! viewtopic.php?f=4&t=24830

Welcome here ethannia.

It is definatly a scam. The travel agency is played by the same scammer, and money send to that fake agency would end up at the scammer. Best thing to do is to stop communicating with these scammers.

Could you please post the names and all the email addresses these scammers use?

Being a victim doesn't mean you stand alone. We're here to help you.

Hello ethannia,

This is the part of the above header which shows us which country the email was sent from.

X-Originating-IP: [41.155.10.14]

41.155.10.14 is Lagos, Nigeria.

As mentioned above, the telephone number is a redirect telephone number redirecting all calls to the scammer's mobile phone in Nigeria. Sometimes au pairs google the telephone number which they have been given, so if you could post this in full as well, other au pairs who are being targeted by this scammer will also be able to read here, and realise that it is a scam.

It may also be helpful for you to know that citizens of very few countries are eligible for a visa to be an au pair in the UK. You can see the list of eligible countries here:

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas ... ityscheme/

If you also click on 'Working and conditions' on the left hand side of that webpage, you will be able to confirm that this is the correct visa for au pairs.

Much obliged for posting the header. The email has originated from nigeria. As the originating IP number being 41.155.10.14. The originating ISP shows as Starcomms Limited. Out of Lagos. Indeed if you view the page viewtopic.php?f=26&t=13567, you will see a better description of the 4470 phone number the scammer wrote you. Any email containing these re-direct type numbers is a bad sign I'm afraid!

by Justin Thu Nov 10, 2011 5:58 pm
Hello sjudit!

The fact they asked you to send money through WU is a bad sign. The address you posted is for this company http://www.aupairfoundation.org/ however I doubt you are in contact with the real company. Scammers often pretend to be from legitimate companies to convince their victims. Can you post the email address you have been contacted with?

Justin

Yes..I think it is scam..I am so stupid.. :(
American.usaupair Foundation, Inc [email protected]
Thanks for a quick help.. J.
by Arnold Thu Nov 10, 2011 8:05 pm
Although financier.com looks impressive, it's a free email address from Mail.com. This makes it certain that it's a scam, and that the scammer is impersonating American.Usaupair Foundation.

by sjudit Sat Nov 12, 2011 4:56 am
So it is a scam...no family and no company:( I want to be sure..because I have a contact with them..

1. So what should I do yesterday got email from them...i couldnt write to the mother you are not exist, you are scammer... :?

by David Jansen Sat Nov 12, 2011 5:07 am
Welcome here sjudit.

There is nothing you need to do, it is sure that you are in contact with scammers. There is no job, and it is useless to confront the scammer, or to ask for proof that it is all real. The scammer will tell you a lot of lies to convince you it is real.

Being a victim doesn't mean you stand alone. We're here to help you.

Thanks. Just one more qoustion..
If they have personal details..they could be used make false passport/visa..other documents?
Can I do something with this or not...
by David Jansen Sun Nov 13, 2011 2:12 am
Don't worrie about your personal details. These scammers get a lot of personal details from other (potential) victims, and the scammers are not interested in them. They only ask for that, and/or a cv to seem real.
