Scams offering fake Au Pair positions
by Jennifer89 Wed Nov 02, 2011 6:52 am
Hi everyone. I'm from Italy so I'm sorry for my English! I just want to know if there's someone who can help me! I riceived this email from [email protected] and I think he's probably a scam as he first mentioned that he saw my profile at aupairconnect.com (and note that he isn't in that website!) and he also wrote (note that we wrote each other just 3-4 emails and we've never met or spoken in any other ways!):

Dear Jennifer,

I hope you are doing great? With regards to your last mail, i would
like to start processing your papers because we are really in need of
an au pair even though you said it will be around April. We want to
move to a bigger house by then and hope you will be around by then. My
family and i are living in a four bedroom apartment so you would get
to choose a room that you find comfy when you come over. Each room
have its own toilet and bathroom, so you wont have any problem in that
regards. You failed to indicate which country you are currently
residing, please kindly do so .My wife and I have gone through your
resume and we are greatly impressed with it so kindly find the
Contract Offer that is approved by the UK HOME OFFICE.

On receipt of this e-mail, Please scan the signed contract letter and
send to Barrister Katie Allison via email:
[email protected] so she can advise us on the
things we are to do to make your journey to London a smooth one.

YOU WISH TO DEPART FROM. We wait to receive you when you arrive. Let
me know as soon as you receive this mail. My daughter is already
boasting to her friends of having her own nanny soon so i hope you
will help to actualize this
God bless you as you come.
Warm Regards,

Florrrick Family

Is that normal or this is a scam in your opinion?
I'D LIKE ALSO TO KNOW IF CHATTING VIA EMAIL WITH A SCAM IS DANGEROUS? COULD HE/SHE ARRIVE AT MY PERSONAL INFORMATION? (I don't obviously send any money. NEVER!)
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
HOPE TO HEARING FROM YOU SOON

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer89. It certainly sounds very sus. The email address is all wrong because the @consultant address is common amongst scammers. You will find it's just a free email account anybody could use. If you scroll to the top of this page and type it into the search box you will see the @consultant is littered throughout the forums in many many previous scam attempts. No this is not genuine I'm afraid. To continue with dialogue towards the scammer is pointless because everything you are told is based on a lie. Please do not confront or divulge to the scammer of your findings. If you wish, send a small complimentary email advising you have found employment elsewhere or some such. That should be the end of the matter. By confronting the scam artist, they go away for a brief time and then come back with a better scam that's harder to decipher.

Unfortunately, I can tell you for certain that it is a scam. Just drop all contact with this scammer and do not reply if he contacts you again, or send a reply such as Jolly Roger suggested and leave it at that.

As far as chatting goes--this type of scammer simply wants your cash. He will use fake attorneys/travel agents/immigration agents to try to convince you to pay fees for a job that doesn't exist. As long as you haven't given the scammer more than name/address/phone number type of information, typically the most common result is that you will receive an increase in scam attempts. Sometimes a scammer will use a real person's name and address in their scams--but that can happen if you information is posted anywhere online anyway, which is true of millions of people. So while we strongly recommend against chatting with someone you know is a scammer, there is no reason to be worried if you have.

When I began to suspect I searched online and found this page.
The direction from which they sent me was [email protected] Also be careful with this address.

Welcome tintin89,

There's no need to apologize for your English. We have members here from all over the world, who speak all different languages. The important thing is that we are all helping each other to avoid falling for scams, as you have done by posting this scammer's latest information.

Please feel free to post any other scam offers you receive, or to stop here and ask if you are unsure about any offer too.

You may like to see my post here which explains a lot of the ins and outs of immigration and barristers. Most Barristers don't call themselves that by title anyway and it seems to be an oddly African thing and popular with scammers.

This gives the lowdown on Immigration lawyers (who are allowed to act as advisors) and licensed advisors able to do so. Anyone else would be breaking the law and could go to prison. As you see- your barrister is oddly absent from the Law Society lists, and further does not exist at all
It seems almost unnecessary to ask you for an email header, because we already know where it is from. 98% for NIGERIA.
