Hello gabelaster, I'm sorry to hear you have lost money to this scammer, unfortunately any chance of actually finding him are remote. He will be hidden behind false names, fake sign up information, and a long trail of blind leads.

He has been posted in SW several times, the most recent here viewtopic.php?f=42&t=18218

In all honesty, the chances of finding him are remote, he is most likely in either Lagos or Malyasia, where most of these aupair scams seem to be coming from at present.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help, once the money is sent, and by Western Union I presume, it is gone with no way of recovering it.

this is his number he gave me and he is still answering on this number +447024071750 is it possible to find him on this way or something else? Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, that is a free redirect phone number. He signed up for it online, undoubtedly using fake information, and calls to that number are actually forwarded to another phone. In the case of this type of scammer, the phone receiving the calls will be an untraceable cell phone, most likely in Africa or Malaysia.

Scammers are criminals, and can be very nasty criminals. If you realise that you are writing to a scammer, please stop all contact immediately. If a scammer realises that you are playing with him, or trying to obtain information from him to warn others, he can become very unpleasant and cause trouble for you. Although it is possible to 'play along' with scammers, as cutelily indicates above, this must only be done totally anonymously, for your own safety.

If a scammer has been in contact with you regarding an au pair position, then the scammer will have real details about the real you. And you don't want to annoy a scammer who has your real information.

I got a job offer from him but the salary sounded too good to be true. He is using this email [email protected]. maybe you could try sending him a small amount of money and alert Western Union before hand and set up a sting operation.
by Dotti Mon Nov 12, 2012 1:10 pm
In theory that is a good idea--but in practice it definitely is not.

Western Union will not set up a sting operation. They are not law enforcement and they could not do it if they wanted to. Unfortunately, law enforcement is not going to either. There are literally thousands of Western Union outlets the scammer can visit to withdraw the money (and that's assuming he isn't using an inside contact to change the information) and they fall into many different jurisdictions--so chances of even reaching the appropriate law enforcement body are slim. The cost and the resources needed to try to catch a single scammer (and that's even assuming the scammer is picking up the money--it is far more likely to be a mule who may be innocent) far exceed the money involved in the transactions. This is why these crimes are rarely punished--law enforcement can't justify the expense and use of resources on something like this, when they have much "bigger" crimes to deal with.

Sending ANY money is a very bad idea, because the scammer WILL get his hands on it--and even a small sum will help provide this scammer the resources to scam even more.

I'm glad we were able to help you avoid being scammed!

One small point, though, when you encounter future scammers (which will certainly happen if you are looking for an au pair position:) In general, it is best NOT to point a scammer to where they are listed on a website. When you do that, the scammer won't stop scamming, but he will change his name and information for the next scam so that the next victim cannot search and find it. It is better for future targets that he continues using the same name so that they can search and find the information too.
