Hello, do you know if this are scam? They live in london in the brent street and are having a 6 year old son named dan. they have sent me pictures and know they want that i sign a contract but i am starting in november 2012. do you know anything about that?

she said she is a nurse and her husband chris a pastor.

The name and your summary already make it very likely you are dealing with a scammer.

Could you please post the first couple of emails they sent you? With those, we can determine for certain whether it is a scam.

It is difficult to tell whether it is a scam just from the information that you have posted, could you post a sample of the email that you have received (including the headers - minus your own information).

Also, the UK is very limited on which countries they allow individuals to be au pairs from, so if you are not from a EU country or Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Japan and Monaco then you can not be an au pair in the UK.

I get some pictures from the estate caretaker (now they are looking for a live out aupair) and that flat can never cost only 89 GBP per week (big kitchen,...) - thats the email [email protected]

We are a cute, funny family. Our son Dan is 6 years old and in the second Class in the school. He is lively and very keen on sports. He plays football in a club. He is athletic, loves swimming, inline skating, tramp lining, gymnastics, cycle, etc. We like to hear music very much. We live in brent street, in the beautiful London area. We live in a great community with excellent transport links, train in a beautiful hilly landscape. Ideal for sports, running and walking. Brent street is located 2 km from London central, you need 15 minutes with train to London central. In brent street there are language schools also, the nearest grocery store is just 5 minutes walk. If you have a driving license, you may also use the car. Also a bike rental, we can provide to you. We would be pleased if you're fond of animals, because we have two large dogs with which you shall walk but it is not a problem if you don't like animals. We expect a basic knowledge of English language and we will be glad to enrol you in an english class if you have little knowledge of english because you have to help Dan with homework. We offer payment of a language course so you don't have to worry about that.
In the school holidays, I would ask you to have as much fun as possible with the Dan! We have a large 3 bedroom house with big garden and swimming pool. We hope to pay £15 hourly plus bus ticket worth £95 weekly and we will also provide you with a mobile phone with some inclusive minutes each month and the rest would be your responsibility. I will like you to confirm the arrival date better and let me know of that in due time so that i can also plan our schedule ahead to pick you up at the airport when you arrived. Mind you try and choose a weekend arrival so that i can be well available to give you every support necessary.
Once again we hope to pay £12 hourly and for 30/35 hours weekly will be 480 pounds weekly plus bus ticket worth £95 weekly.
I have decided to offer you a very high salary to enable you pay rent and municipal charges and also have some saving while living in London because we are offering a live out aupair job as we don't have provision for a live-in accommodation. We can also help you search a shared accommodation through the same estate caretaker that secured our home in Brent and get back to you. So do confirm if a shared flat will be fine for you so that we can ask for its availability from the estate caretaker immediately.
As for your stay duration we hope to sign a 3 months contract with you for a start and extend the contract if we are satisfied with your services and if you are also willing to continue working with our family but it is okay if you wish to sign less duration agreement.

Attached is a copy of your contract letter which you are required to fill and send back to me for review and endorsement.
I called the estate caretaker and we did make few contacts on the apartment and with the list of prizes given i think one of the cheapest of all we got cost about £89 weekly and that is 356 pounds monthly. Rent are expected to be paid in advance. According to the estate caretaker, the apartment he found you is just few houses away from us and i think that is a very good apartment for you. With the description given we understood it's comfortable because we were told it has a bed, Blanket, towels, a wi-fi internet, tv, refrigerator, gas cooker, security lights, security alarms, heater, washing machine and a bathroom.
The fact is that at the moment i can't negotiate any apartment further in advance per se, since we are yet to affirm your consent on it and more so because we understood the issue of accommodation it's a first come first serve thing and their is no way we can secure one for you without your full readiness.
So do let me know if the prize is okay with you and in case you need any further information on the flat let me know as well so that i can verify more and also connect you with the estate caretaker in charge.

Thank you for posting the emails you received. Yes, this is a scam. There is no real au pair position on offer, and no real apartment to rent. Both the host family and the estate caretaker are fake.

All money sent to this scammer will be stolen by him. I'm glad that you were suspicious about this!

Well, unfortunately I believed to this person and send money - is there any possibility (I know, I am stupid) for me to get back some money? (I am quite desperate)
For me, it all seems real (pictures attached at mail are not published on te internet, Flatshate company really exists,...)

I am sorry to hear that you were scammed by this scammer. I'm also sorry to say that (assuming the money has been picked up from Western Union) there is no way that you will get any of the money back.

Please do not think of yourself as stupid. Au pair scammers prey on the fact that would be au pairs do not know the way that getting a visa to work abroad works.

I am expecting that also Tenancy agreement (data of landlord and law officer) are fake.
Well, is there any list of indications how can I recognize scam? (link or send me mail, please)

The scammer who is writing the emails (both from the fake host family and from the fake estate caretaker) is really a Nigerian man, living in Nigeria. He uses many false names, and sets up email accounts using false information. Therefore, it is difficult for anyone to find out who he really is; but even if this can be discovered, the police in your own country are very unlikely to be able to investigate further.

Please drop all contact with this criminal. Au pair scammers are very well-practiced at telling their lies, and trying to persuade you that they are real: for example, they may ask their wife, girlfriend, or even children, to talk to you on the phone; or they may tell you that they are victims of identity theft, or victims of an ex-au pair who is seeking revenge. But all they are really interested in is stealing more money from you.

If you are European, you do not need a CRB check to become an au pair in the UK. This is a scammer's invention.

In fact, I would like to know more about it - how does he do it - phone calls seems to be real with estate agent and family, pictures not published on web...
I know sending more money is irracional and I won´t do that. But how it is possible for him to get money from Western Union if the destination was United Kingdom?

As Chris fuller said before, the scammer can ask others to make phone calls, so you don't hear the same voice when talking to the family, and later the estate agent. Some scammers have an accomplice living in the UK who can pick up the money at western union. But it is also possible for them to pick up the money in Nigeria, no matter if the address you send it to is in the UK.

The scammer stole the photos of a real registered GERMAN family. The scammer is saying that this family lives in London. HAHAHA...
