Scams offering fake Au Pair positions
by Chris Fuller Wed Jan 18, 2012 5:13 am
This is not a genuine childcare opportunity; it is a scam.

From: steven Kellerman <[email protected]>

Dear,

How are you? I was just searching through the web and aupair agency
when I found your profile. I am in dire need of a nanny who would help
take a very good care of my two kids and would also be my house help
in United Kingdom when I am away from home. I am a divorced Sailor who
spend most of his time on the ship. The job attracts a very good pay
along with good allowances and other things. If interested, get back
to me with your resume at [email protected].

Regards,
Steven and Kids

The travel agent is also fake, and is part of the scam.

Subject: NANNY JOB INSTRUCTIONS

Hello,

How are you? Thanks for the reply to my job offer and the interest in my family. I would like to see your Curriculum Vitae (CV)and also your scanned passport copy.Truly I need a foreign Nanny, I know that there are a lot of Nannies in the UK here but its just that i need a Nanny from outside, that is caring, loving, motherly carefree and well determined, that can take good care of my kids for me but with the recommendation from you and that is the more reason I may need your services, hopefully you will be my kid's Nanny and do according to your words.

I reside in London and do not get worried about any documents(work Permit and Visa),a travel agency here in the UK will handle that for you as per your visa just scan&send the copy of your international passport and CV through email to them, they will apply for visa on your behalf in the UK Home Office and when the visa is ready the UK Embassy in your country will call on you so that they can endorse the visa on your original passport. If you have any other traveling agency you could also use that.

I love my kids so much and would not toy with them. They are the apple of my eyes. I work because of them and am willing to pay any amount to give them the best in the world. You would be needing to settle half of the Visa Procurement yourself and I will settle the remaining because I paid for 3 Nannies in the past few months which they did not turn up but went somewhere else after their visa was approved and that is why I vowed that any Nanny that I will employ will make half of expenses by himself/herself.Hope you understand how I mean. I need a very serious person and the job is available right now. Also, I use to have a Nanny and she spent 2 years with us, but she got married and relocated to the United states, so I need a replacement ASAP.

Your duties are as follows:

1-Supervise breakfast with the children in the morning and get them off to school (Collect my 2KIDS of ages 4yrs old and 6year and half on from school at 3..40pm.)
2-Some Housework/washing/ironing as required on a daily basis
3-Supervise homework, music practice and fun activities or take children to after school activities.
4-Prepare and cook an evening meal for everyone at about 6.30-6.45 Up to two evenings child minding per week.
5-Weekends and Bank holidays would be free that there will not be much duties to carry out.
6-Occasional weekend work would be offered by prior negotiation. I normally leave for
work at 7.00am and get back at around 6.30pm although some flexibility is useful.
7- Monthly pay is £1,500.00 GBP and pocket money is £150.00 GBP a week.
I am offering a live-in position with full board (we eat well in this house!)
1-Separate Toilet and Bathroom.
2-TV,different types of video machines.
3-Personal computer already Internet on. e.t.c for you and i will make sure everything goes on well with you, with my kids.

Don't worry about the United Kingdom, it's a nice place to stay and I hope you will enjoy staying here with my family and you will have the access to internet, In fact I have a personal PC at home for myself but my kids usually play games on their own PC, I will get you a computer to start using for your own use.All expenses made by you will be refunded immediately you get here.If you would be using the travel agency I would be recommending my traveling agent to you.

Contact Person: Matthew Sheringham
Email Address : [email protected]

Do get back to me as soon as possible with your resume and we take it from there.

Subject: DIVORCED SAILOR SEEKS NANNY
by Lipps Sat Jan 21, 2012 1:03 pm
Hi,

I'm afraid I also swallowed the bait to this. I didn't send any money or documents, because frankly it seemed too good to be truth and what typed me off was photos of his kids. The photos looked like from a magazine, unnatural. I search the pictures though, along with the picture of him and his wife and I got nothing. I want to ask you how you figured it out. Because I got the same email but I took it one level higher where I got the address and email from the travel agency. I used the used address to search for a website and send an email to their offices if it's genuine. I didn't get an answer yet and I stumbled upon this site by an accident, but your post is recent and I would like to know if you're sure. I know, I sound dumb, but there must be a reason for you to post this here...especially in the same week as I started the emails and don't get this the wrong way, but you could be just someone pissed at the man and trying to frame him. Again, I am NOT saying that it is not true, I just want to make sure before I ditch the effort. I wasn't really going to pay them anything without a contract and details first, and I feel kinda stupid for falling for it but I'm nothing if not cautious. And I know my rights and what I would need to work in the UK and it didn't sit with me well for a while but I was still undecided. I'm glad I found this site but like I said, cautious. What's weird is that his profile is only one one au pair site, don't scammers usually use more than one for better chance? And also, the search on him or his email, or the agency or anything else didn't find anyone else scammed. Is it weird that there would be no mentioning of this scam a while ago and not just by you in the last week? I will say again that I'm saying you're lying or anything, these are genuine questions. I'm weird that way, I have to analyze everything and know all the answers. If anything, I'm glad I found this before I got stupid and greedy and agreed to it.

Let me know please what you know and what I should do then. This is a first for me and apart from being disappointed I feel really stupid and quite angry with myself. Could you give my some more proof then? You can call me a total dumbass if it makes you feel better

P.S.: I need to mention that I caught some of his inconsistenses from previous emails and asked him about it. Unfortunately, his explanation sounded plausible. Now that I think about it, it really doesn't say that much in favor of my intelect. But I did search shitload of things and I didn't send any money so YAY for me, right? :=)

Welcome to Scamwarners, Lipps!

Have you read this overview? http://scamwarners.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=3019 It will help to explain the reasons why the email that you have received from Steven Kellerman - using the email address [email protected] is a scam. If you follow the instructions in my sig. below, and find the headers of his email, you will likely be able to see where the message was sent from, almost certainly Nigeria. Please post the headers.

by Lipps Sat Jan 21, 2012 1:51 pm
Hi,

yeah...both the headers were from Nigeria, the same address actually. Well, it seems that the agency I contacted that actually is in the UK will be very surprised by their "employees" :D Where should I posted the headers? Did you posted them already? Would you maybe have the answers to my other questions? I'm still curious. Thanks :D

Hi,

My questions, though I'll probably have more: What's weird is that his profile is only one one au pair site, don't scammers usually use more than one for better chance? And also, the search on him or his email, or the agency or anything else didn't find anyone else scammed. Is it weird that there would be no mentioning of this scam a while ago and not just by you in the last week? And why didn't you post the headers already? Oh, and the photos? Also here?
by Con Warner Sat Jan 21, 2012 2:38 pm
^^^ The reason that you are only seeing reference to this email address recently is that scammers change email address all the time and he has only probably acquired the current one in the last few days or weeks.

The wording he uses has been around for a while though. You can see a virtually exact copy from 2008 in this link:
http://www.fraudwatchers.org/forums/archive/index.php/t-18787.html

That was found using Google with a key phrase from his email... "Nanny from outside, that is caring, loving, motherly carefree and well determined, that can take good care of my kids for me"

The email address he is using may crop up on other employment sites but he needs time to register it if it is a new address - which it seems to be.

Hi,

oh. Ok. Well, it through me off that I found matching picture only on one site where he has VIP membership. It seemed quite unlikely that he would pay for a membership without being genuine.

Oh, btw. I got the answer to my email from the REAL traveling agency and the guy just wrote that he doesn't understand my question, that the are traveling agency. Nothing more so it proves that they are a fake. As I said, I researched them quite thoroughly, otherwise I wouldn't end up here. I'm just glad I caught it in time. Thanks, I'm quite sure you saved me a butt-load of money. :)
by Lipps Sat Jan 21, 2012 2:59 pm
Ha,

just wrote me again after I said that someone is using there address. He thanked me and confirmed that he doesn't know any of that name in the agency. Now I'll just wait if "Mr. Kellerman" writes again and if not, maybe the whole website is fake. It could be, right? There are a lot of websites by that name. All with different urls

Hi Lipps!
I didn't get an email from this scammer, therefore I have no headers to post. Sorry if there was some confusion. I was asking you to post the headers. :D

Hello Lipps, and welcome to ScamWarners. It is wise to ask questions. These are some of the reasons that I knew this is a scam:

1. The writer does not know the difference between an au pair and a nanny in the UK.

2. Travel agencies arrange holidays: they do not arrange visas or work permits.

3. Most Europeans do not require any sort of permit to work or to become an au pair in the UK; au pair visas are available to citizens of very few countries; and domestic service visas are not available unless a person has already been working for that employer for at least one year in another country.

4. As Con Warner points out, the text is a typical and often-repeated pre-written scam letter.

Click here to see how often this occurs: 'I am offering a live-in position with full board (we eat well in this house!)'

5. The language and punctuation is not normal for a British person.

Please, if you have not already done so, stop all contact with this scammer. He is a criminal, and his only intention is to trick you into sending him money to steal from you.

Here are more emails from this scammer. Both the email from the fake host family and the email from the fake travel agency were sent from Nigeria, and from the same IP address: 41.58.1.109 - Lagos, Nigeria.

Subject: ABOUT YOUR PAPERS

Thanks for getting back to me. I am very glad to read from you again. You should send your passport to me as soon as possible and yess the agency will be getting you the visa as well as the work permit and every other important papers necessary to bring you down here. I would like to know if you read the job instructions I sent to you quite well. The monthly salary is a very good one I believe and so is the weekly allowance but I would like to let you know that we will both shoulder what ever is it the agency would be charging you for your papers. I mean what ever the agency said it would cost to bring you down here, I will only pay half and you will pay the remaining half. Dont worry, as soon as you get here, what ever money you send to the travelling agency to get your papers will be returned to you okay.

I am just doing this to be very sure that you will not run away after getting you all the papers. I told you about the three nannies I tried to bring here the last time and they ended up running away when they got to the United Kingdom. That would be all for now. You should email me as soon as you hear back from the agency okay. I will be waiting for your email. Thank you and God bless.

Regards,
Steven and Kids.

This scammer is using the telephone number +447024077185.

Like all telephone numbers which begin +4470 - or variations, for example UK 070 or (+44) 070 or +44(0)70 - this is not a normal UK telephone number; it is a 'redirect' number, which redirects all calls to a mobile phone almost anywhere in the world. In this instance, the number will redirect all calls to the scammer's own mobile phone in Nigeria.

You can read more about this type of telephone number here:
