Scams offering fake Au Pair positions

Although as a parent we want our very young adult children to grow up and experience the world...I am so greatful we monitored her activities in trying to secure herself an Aupair position, especially when we heard it was from the UK as we were under the understanding that because Canada was not a EU country that avenue for Aupairs in closed.
A intorduction letter she recieved once registered on the newaupair.com website was from one, Mr. James Gibbs of London, United Kingdom who said he was a Doctor. Hmmm a doctor who refers to himself as a Mr.? was our first red flag. Pleasent emails back and forth very basic no request of info a couple family pictures. Eventually we asked what kind of doctor he was...othopedic in his own private hospital "God's Care Hospital". Now there is a doctor in London name Gibbs who is does specialize however no such hospital. In reviewing the emails sent back and forth I now am looking for details such as inncorrect phrasing, grammer, which there was much of. So I google mapped the home address he provided. 39 Foley St. Fotzrovia, City of London W1W-7TP and wouldn't you know it a corner shop with a real estate office in it. In addition we googles the #(447!!!!!)024059599. Yet another red flag. His most recent email from [email protected] was a request to contact the UK Home Office using the email address he provided ONLY so we don't confuse or make mistakes with things.
[email protected]. Oddly enough another red flag and a very different email address then the real one for the UK Home Office.
Watch out for this scam the more we research the address etc the more names we come up with...and our poor daughter still without her dreams of working with children not fullfilled

Hello Nicole D, and welcome to ScamWarners. I'm glad that you researched this and discovered that it is a scam.

Canada is one of the countries currently participating in the Youth Mobility Scheme, permitting young people to go to the UK as an au pair. You can read about this here:

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas ... ityscheme/

If you also click on 'Conditions of your stay' on the left hand side of that webpage, you will be able to confirm that this is the correct visa for au pairs.

Do not believe any host family who presents a different way to obtain a visa or to become an au pair in the UK.

The safest way to seek an au pair position is through an agency which is a member of the International Au Pair Association (IAPA), or for UK au pair positions only, the British Au Pairs Agencies Association (BAPAA). You can find a list of IAPA member agencies in your country, or in the country you hope to travel to, here:

http://www.iapa.org/?page_id=33

And a list of BAPAA member agencies here:

http://www.bapaa.org.uk/directory.asp?page=20

Good wishes ... and thank you for taking the time to post a warning about this scam.
