The English is not consistent with a British person. The mistakes and certain phrasing tell me you are dealing with an African. Given your situation, that is enough to tell me it is a scam.

Chances are, after you booked a flight, a last minute emergency would come up--for example, there would be a problem with your room, and you would have to rent an apartment--which would require an immediate deposit to hold.

Thank you Mary_18777 for posting more emails from this scammer. Could you also post the email address this scammer is using - many people google the email addresses of the host families offering them an au pair position, and it would be good if they can then find this warning that it is a scam.

"Are you still looking for family? We saw your profile on Aupair world, we are looking for an Aupair who is willing to start as soon as possible.

I hope to hear from you soon.

I replied something like "yes, but can't start until June" and then got this

"Hello, How are you doing, I am glad to hear from you so quick. Can you kindly send me an email about your self? here is my email: [email protected] I ill send you an email with details of my family as soon as i get yours. i will like you to start at the first week of june. i hope to hear from you soon. katrina"

Hey Guys!

The last 2 weeks I got the same mails and also had contact with "Katrina".
Well, a lot of people checked my mails and the information she gave me.
They all figured out, that Katrina is a FAKE!!

I had the same problem with the skype conversation.
There are a lot of people faking au pair familys. They wait till you booked your flight and then want money from you before you arrive go "get security your're coming".

Did Katrina also offer you an USA trip?

Hello Susan, and thank you for posting the telephone number used by this scammer. Like all telephone numbers which begin +4470, it is not a normal UK number; it is a redirect number, redirecting all calls to the scammer's mobile phone elsewhere in the world.

Most au pair scammers are really living in Nigeria, and it is usually impossible to get them arrested. They use fake names and email accounts set up with false information, and they often use anonymous internet cafés as well, so it is unlikely that anyone can discover their true identities. But even if we can find out who they really are, the police in our own countries are unable to make an international arrest; and the police in Nigeria are normally too busy focusing on other types of crimes.

Therefore, the best thing that we can do is publicise the scammers and warn others about them. We can't get them arrested - but we can do our best to prevent them from stealing money from people, by telling others about them.

Hello Chris,

thank you for the information!
I never thought that there is this way of crime and I'm so glad I didn't book the flight!

Should I send these infos also to an other platform?

Many au pair websites have a forum or message board where au pairs can post details about scams that they have received - so you could also post the scammer's email address and emails to you at the website where the scammer got your profile details from. This would be helpful to the other au pairs that the scammer has also contacted through that website. Please make sure, however, to remove your own name and email address from anything you post - you don't want spammers and more scammers to see your details!

Well, I already did but the platform is not really interested in this problem... That's really a shame becaus I want to do everything that this won't happen again...

I am French I looked for a family and "she" read it to me on facebook too.
She says me same things, but she has changed her name, now she is " Preston sharron",

Then, I have received others similar mails from others families my facebook, I knew it was her friend, other scamers. I think they wanted me to talk of their propositions to my friends, to scams more people. I give you their "name" in order to people know them, I hope it could be useful for someone...
