Scams offering fake Au Pair positions
by daisies Mon Apr 30, 2012 2:31 pm
Okay so this is a housekeeping job offering on craigslist that my mom posted to, but it seems fishy to me. We couldn't find the number on freephonetracer, and when I called it I think it said it was a google number. Also it doesn't seem right that someone would just let a stranger go into their home and clean. In the 2nd email he mentions items that she must buy and how he will give her the money for it.

Could this actually be legit?
Also, if it isn't, on reply to the first email my mom had given him a copy of her police background check which has her full name and full birthday.
Can anything go wrong with just that information and her email?
Thanks for any help!

It's a scam.

The payment that she receives will be in the form of a fake cheque or fraudulent bank transfer. She will told to forward some money to someone else to pay for the supplies or similar.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

The pay numbers don't match the job. It's a scam.

Some of the equipment he asked you to buy is not anything that anyone would expect a housekeeper to provide. He would have one himself. Also, one of those musical instruments is one that someone with kids, possibly with immature immune systems, would never allow a stranger to play.
