Scams offering fake Au Pair positions
by anntaou Thu May 03, 2012 11:17 am
Hello there,

I received the following e-mail:

Hi dear, I am Mrs Beatrice moore, 36 Years Old from United State of America. Am writing you on behalf of the whole family (me, my husband and our 2 child) and here is a bit about us. Our family do not like to judge a book by the cover or take gossip to determine who will be around. We always try to stay positive and find the best in anyone or any situation including the worst ones. I work as a sales manager for walmart. Due to the nature of my work, am not always around. I will thereby be in need of your service as a nanny for my kids. I will appreciate your response to know if you are interested

Thanks

Beatrice

Also it seems that the ip of this e-mail is :Received: from mr.google.com ([10.50.156.225]). Some sites say it's an American ip, but others show that this ip is not registered anywhere. Do you guys think that it's a scam?

Thanks in advance, Anastasia

Emails from gmail accounts do not give accurate locations for IP checks as the IP shown is actually Google's and not the users.

There are a number of linguistic factors in the writing that would indicate that it was written by an African rather than a native English speaker.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

I was also afraid of that.... In hotmail and yahoo it's easier to find the ip of the sender, but gmail it's harder :x
Anyway, thanks guys you're the best!

Another email from the scammer.

Thanks alot for your response . I'm from 35 South Ave Staten Island, NY 10303. You'll be working 5 hours a day, you are to take the kids to school in the morning and later go back to pick them back home from school in the afternoon. On weekends you'll take them out to new places like beach and other recreational places (You have free time). You are required to spend time with the child, running errands, house cleaning and light cooking is a possibility, but not really a requirement. I prefer someone who will reinforce our desire to teach our children responsibilities and do not expect to undertake the children assigned tasks but instead to find ways to encourage them to complete tasks. I will be offering you 450$ per week and you will be staying with us in the house. There is free internet facilities in the house for your use, private room, bathroom and a private car for you in taking the kids to school provided you know how to drive or willing to learn driving. I have 2 lovely kids named Ashley (9years old) and James (7years old). We love adventure, arts, traveling, soccer, literature, laughter and our wonderful babies. They are very active wanting a partner to bounce and spin with them.
The family's interests include the zoo, doing yoga, soccer, water skiing, snow skiing, walks in the park, play dates with friends, the arts, literature, traveling, shopping, and our kids. You and the kids will be going for shopping once in 6weeks. Convince me that you are capable of doing this job to my satisfaction.
I will like to know if you have a working permit and a valid working Visa. I wait to read back from you

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

Edit to add: I see there is now a separate topic about Lescott Ferguson here (and I'm glad to see that you also found the IP address, bluenvy): viewtopic.php?f=42&t=42150

The IP address is located in the headers of an email. The way to find the headers of an email varies with different email providers.

If you are using Yahoo mail:

1. Go to Inbox.
2. Click the RIGHT-mouse button on the 'subject' (name/title) of the email.
3. LEFT-click on the bottom option of the menu: in English, 'View Full Headers'.

If you are using Live/Hotmail:

1. Go to Inbox.
2. Click the RIGHT-mouse button on the 'subject' (name/title) of the email.
3. LEFT click on the second-option-from-the-bottom - in English it says 'View message source'.

If you are using Gmail:

1. Open the mail you wish to obtain the header for.
2. At the top of the mail, on the right, next to the little box marked 'Reply', you will see a downwards pointing arrow. Click it.
3. Now choose 'Show Original'.

The headers show several IP addresses. The sender's IP address is usually the one nearest the bottom of the headers. You can then copy and paste this into an IP Locator website, eg:

http://www.iptrackeronline.com/

Sometimes, however, it is a bit confusing which is the correct IP address; or whether you have the correct location result. Please bear in mind that some email mail providers replace the sender's IP address with their own IP address; and also that scammers may use proxy servers which disguise their true IP address. If you are unsure about header information, you are welcome to post the whole header here, and we'll be glad to help. If you do this, however, please make sure to remove your own name and email address from the headers first (they may appear in several places), for your own privacy.

In the meantime, I can tell you that Lescott Ferguson is a scammer. This scammer has many adverts online, like this:

we are looking for a Honest and trustworthy maid and driver in our home.who is hard working and reliable, to manage all the housekeeping duties and also look after my (2yr) baby Girl. The father work's unconventional hours. The interested employer must be friendly obedient. Their monthly salary is, 3000,pounds while weekly allowance 200 pounds, Interested person's should send your resume to... ( [email protected] )

This job does not exist; it is a scam.

It may also be useful to know that, in reality, a non-European would need a Domestic Worker's Visa for this type of work. And a Domestic Worker's Visa for the UK can only be obtained if you have already been working for the employer for a minimum of one year in another country. You can confirm this here:
