Scams offering fake Au Pair positions
by Orsolya Sat May 05, 2012 6:10 pm
Dear Au pair,

We are a father and son here in the United Kingdom. I need someone to
be here while I am working. You will have time also for English
classes while you work here in our family should you choose. We are
quiet, relaxed and energetic family of two. As a single parent, I am
faced with the challenges of taking good care of my son Alex and work,
this I see as very hectic that’s why I have contacted you and upon you
acceptance of my offer, you will have to help me a lot by taking good
care of my baby while I pursue other businesses of mine.

Do write me back, if you are sincerely willing to work in my family.

Best Regards,
Matthew.

I would like to know whether this is a scam?

Hello,
We came across your profile on www.easyaupair.com and we were thought we should write to you. Your profile seems to reflect on certain qualities which we are looking for in an au pair. We need an au pair as soon as possible to help with the care of our 5yr old daughter. We are a small family of three and we reside in Baltimore, MD, U.S.A. we will need a live-in au pair for a period of 6-12months at 35hrs a week, light house work will also be required. The job pays $500 weekly,
Please let us know if you are interested in our offer, as there is still a lot more to discuss
Yours sincerely

For the first: In the US, au pairs must be sponsored by a government-approved agency. A host family cannot make an offer and bring you over independently. The fact that this "family" is making you an offer, but you are not registered with one of the agencies, makes this very likely to be a scam. I would need to see at least one more email from them to say with absolute certainty.

If a US family refers you to an agency, the name and all contact information for that agency MUST match the contact information on this page: http://j1visa.state.gov/participants/how-to-apply/sponsor-search/?program=Au%20Pair&state=any If they refer you to an agency NOT listed on this page, or they give you a phone number or website address that is different from the one listed on the page, then they are not real.

For the 2nd:
There are mistakes in the English that suggest the author is not actually from UK, but this is another one that I wouldn't say with absolute certainty without seeing the next message.
