Scams offering fake Au Pair positions
by nmcd Tue May 15, 2012 1:50 pm
I have reason to believe that this is a scam email address as a previous post had the exact same original email as I received this morning. I searched the entire website from which they said they found my email address and they are not a registered family for the area that they detail. This is the email I recieved:

"Dear Au pair

We just finished viewing your profile on easyaupair.com and we were
very impressed. We have been looking for someone to look after our
kids since our last au pair left and we feel you are the right choice.

We live in the Sub-Urbs of San Francisco, California. Its a beautiful
city you are sure to love it here. The job pays $700 weekly and you
will work for 35 hours a week. There is so much more to discuss so if
you are interested get back to us and we will gladly work things out.

Have a nice day
Ryan and Kim Turner"

I was a little bit suspicious after reading it as the terms sounded too good to be true and they said "dear au pair" despite my name being on my profile so I googled the family name and the email itself and found a post with the exact same email on this website.

Hello nmcd and welcome to ScamWarners.

You are right, it is a scam.

The salary is far too high for an au pair position and as you say, the email itself is identical to some others on this forum, for example viewtopic.php?p=55757#p55757

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

Further email from the scammer

We are really glad to hear back from you and even better knowing you
are interested in our offer, first we’d like to tell you about our
family. We have two lovely daughters, Alice and Betty who are 5 and 3
(we have attached photos for you). They love to play together and
little Betty always wants to do what her older sister does and Alice
wants to be just like mommy. They both love their dolls and spend time
with the other kids in the neighbourhood. Kim is an E.R nurse at the
city hospital and I'm a pilot for a helicopter and jet service.

We do a lot of family stuff together when we get the chance, like take
trips or go skiing. There are lots of fun things to do in this City
and we’re sure you’ll like it here. We’d like to know more about you
so tell us and send us some pictures too. Maybe we can have a chat on
skype as well though the timing may be difficult. Also send us your
number so we can give you a call. Regarding your work visa we will
contract an agent who handled the visa for our last au pair to handle
everything for you.

What time are you sure you will be able to start if given the job? We
hope to hear from you soon with what you think and any questions you
have.

Cheers!
Ryan, Kim and Kids

send them an email immediately and find out what you will need to get

your visa. We'd really love to hear back from you so have a wonderful

Another one of the scammer's emails

Dear Xxx

It's really nice to hear from you again, you seem very interesting and
we feel we have made the right choice, let’s hope to make your stay
with us the best time you can have. We want you as our next au pair,
our last au pair was great and we had so much fun with her so
hopefully everything will work out just as well with you. The timing
is perfect for us and we hope you are enjoying your job at the moment.
Here is a description of how your day will look like

From Monday to Friday

You will start by 8:00 am in the morning, get the kids breakfast ready
and get them dressed and packed for pre-school. If we are not home you
are free to drive them to with of the cars or you can get a taxi.
While they’re at school you will take care of the kid’s laundry, light
housekeeping, grocery shopping, etc.

We have a meal plan for the kids so what they’ll eat will already be
sorted out and there will always be cooked food available but you need
to heat it up for them. You’ll get the kids back from school by
12:00pm and from then on it’s up to you on how to keep them occupied,
there playgrounds where they can also be with other kids.

One of us should be home by at 6:00pm and that’s when you close for
the day so we expect the kids to be home and cleaned up by then. If we
ever need you to stay over time we will work out a scheme on how to
pay extra for that and you get the weekends off as well.

You will have a room in the house for free, it comes with its own
bathroom, a TV and a laptop. We have wireless connection in the house
so you can communicate with people back home anytime you want. You are
always welcome to join us for meals if you choose. You should always
think of yourself as family because that’s the way we see you.

Best Wishes,
Ryan, Kim and Kids

The scammers have also in the past used a fake au pair to give a reference about themselves.

Our last au pair's name is Julia Freeman here is her email address [email protected], I'm
sure she can be of some help.

Thank you for posting this, I googled parts of the mail, and ended up here.

They're also calling themselves Sean and Katie Cooper and they're using [email protected] as an email.

I hate that the au pair business is so shady with a lot of scambaiters :( You don't know who to trust! But if the pictures seems to be a little too staged, and it sounds too perfect, it's usually a scambaiter.
