Scams offering fake Au Pair positions
by FaniAlcudia Thu Jun 07, 2012 12:08 pm
So, everything started when I registred in one of those aupair pages. I was looking to spend a summer abroad because I want to practice my English (I'm Spanish). Some families added me on their favourites and there was the Clancy family.

Well, I mailed the family asking for info and they answered me with photos and explain a little about the job. Apparently, the mother works at night and they were asking me to stay awake all night to take care of their children.

We are Clancy family from Texas,USA. My wife now works on night duties at work in the airport, we need a live-in aupair to stay home and watch our kids over nights while my wife resumes work from 8 p.m to 8 a.m, nanny can have the days free while my wife is home, we can pay $350 per week with free living and free amenities, you could tell us if you charge per hour or per week.
Let us know your interests about this position if you are ready to work in the States.

I told them about me and send some photos. Then, they said that they would accept me but they had to know some more about me. They asked me things that I already told, that was the first suspicious thing. One of the things that they asked me was if I had "a valid US Visa".

After telling them about myself (again) I asked them to give me their phone and I phoned. I heard a man saying my name, but there was too much noise and the connection had lost.

The, the man send me an email saying that he was on his way from work and there was noisy. He said that we can discuss via mail what I had to say. I said to him that I wanted to know they're real, because theere are many scammers on the web. That was the answer.

Of course me and my family are real, we'll be happy to assist you on your trips to United States, My wife agreed that she will sponsor your flights to USA as she works with airline agencies but for your visa, you need the letter of invitations and working permits processed and approved by the U.S Immigrations here, they will make the documents in your names and nationalities and we post to your address, then you take them with your valid passports to the american embassy there for your visa will be granted, the immigrations charge $200 for the documents processing, you can send the fee with your names, ages and nationalities to get your visa soon.

Roy.

I'm sorry to confirm this, but they are not real.

The writing tells me that the person who is pretending to be hiring you is African, not American.

But more importantly, there is a very specific process for getting an au pair visa, and what this scammer is describing does not follow that process.

There are several problems with what he is suggesting, but in order to become an au pair in the United States you must be sponsored through one of the agencies designated by the United States government. The designated agencies are listed here: http://j1visa.state.gov/participants/how-to-apply/sponsor-search/?program=Au%20Pair If you have not been working with one of these agencies (and you must be able to contact them via the official contact information in that link to ensure they are real), then you cannot work as an au pair, period.

The scammer's whole purpose is to steal you $200 for visas you will not get, for a job that does not exist.

The best thing you can do is cut off all contact with this scammer immediately.

Here is the email address used by this scammer:

From: Roy Clancy <[email protected]>
Subject: Overnight Nanny

He is not really living in the USA; he is sending his emails from Nigeria, as proven by the IP addresses, eg 195.219.3.162 - Lagos, Nigeria.

These are the stolen photographs which he sends, pretending that they are photos of his own family.

You need a visa to visit USA, my wife can book your direct flights to the States through her flight agencies and for your visa, You can talk to your relatives here in America, If you have relatives here in U.S, just ask them to apply for your invitation letter and documents so you can take to the american embassy there to get your visa, the U.S immigration only charges $300 for the invitation letter processing and approvals, that is all you need to pay.

Since you don't have relatives in U.S to help you, As your host families, we can also help you get the invitation letter and other documents to get your visa but you are paying $300 the charges by the U.S immigrations for the making of the invitations and once you get your visa, my wife will pay your flights as she promised.
