I replied and asked for feather details regarding the position and got this reply;

I see he previously tried this scam as Peter Campbell, it has been noted on your files. Trying to get money from people for "visa`s"
SCAM !!!!!

This looks like the writing of a West African, and the phony number shows that he is not in the United Kingdom.

Probably he bought your address, along with millions of others, from someone who sells lists of addresses to spammers, who may have found it on a newsgroup post, or may be lurking on a mailing list you're on, or may have accidentally made your email address by splicing two other email addresses together. Most likely he weeded out your address when your response didn't sound like you're interested, and you have nothing to worry about from him.
