Scams offering fake Au Pair positions
by ms.noone Mon May 06, 2013 3:01 am
Hello, could someone tell me if that is a scam? For me it sounds a bit too good to be true and I also found some errors in her English language though I am Polish, but I'm not sure.

Hello,

How are you today, hope you are doing real good?

FAMILY INTRODUCTION:
We are so delighted to hear from you and it is our pleasure and with due respect to host you in my family as Vans Au pair. I'm very social and good to people, i'm honest and respectful, i don't like making people to feel bad, i always try my best to do the right thing at the right time and that is why my husband loves me so much. My Husband enjoys Sports but he is always busy in the office and he is a very hard working person, mean while my son Vans likes visiting the park, playing with his car toys, also a car will be made available for you if you are willing to drive or learn how to drive, i promise you as your host mother that you will stay comfortably with my family because we are a Christian family.

We live in Greenwich, There is a nice English Class around our area, also there are other Au pairs living around our area you will have the time to attend to an English Lesson and the cost will be taken care by my family if you are willing.

Our family is a fun loving family and during the weekends we all together with our extended families visits the beach for the sake of catching fun it has become a part of us we are indeed a lovely family who will love you to come and Join us as soon as you deem fit to come, i promise you that it is going to be a memorable and wonderful time for the family we have longed for the moment when a lovely Au pair or Nanny will come and join us.

I would like to receive your CV for perusal and show it to my husband for approval; do you have any Reference or letter of recommendation you can send to us?

I want to make everything move in a normal way without any problem because this is our first experience of hosting an Au pair or Nanny. Vans is my only Son so i wouldn't want anything that will hot him and i have promise to be a good mum to him so that he will grow happily, please all we want from you is to take good care of Vans, take him like your brother, your friend, play with him and teach him some good cultural exchange.

We have a large house so your accommodation will be a live in apartment, 2 bed room flat with internet access, TV set, Telephone and some other good things that will make you feel at home because as a mother i know what is good for people both young and old.

Vans goes to school from 10am to 4pm which means he stays 6 hours in school so all you need to do is to take him to school when it is 10am then come back and take care of your own needs and when it is 4pm you will be required to go and pick him up also with regards to your English course it last for just 2 hours. Saturdays and Sundays will be your free day and your salary will be 250GBP per week i don't know if this will be OK for you but that is what we can offer for now and we don't know how it goes because this is our first experience therefore your pocket money will be giving to you every Friday for your upkeep, my husband is a nice and reputable man so sometimes he might decide to add a little thing to you depending how caring you are to his Son because he cherished Vans so much.

I hope our communication and relationship would be a fruitful one.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Best regards.

Mrs. Alexandra Bayham

The English looks like that of a West African. The pay is out of range. It's a scam.

This is scam because i received the same message from the same "family", and the site i am registered on for au pairs send me also the message telling me about fake.
This people think they are smart with their way of getting girls what whatever reason they want, obviously for me that they would take from you all documents and you would work as the call girl for them.

1st )fact that made me wonder- they think they are smart by offering nice apartment with excuse of looking au pair for the 1st time with 250 GB per week (i bet many girls went for money),its why it was so easy by them to make manipulation,

2nd )fact- they didn't wanted any voice contact, web cam neither. All knows that every care normal family would love to see a person that will live with them and see if they can trust you or not
3rd )the way they writing e-mails, and the fake family photo probably downloaded from google or whatever, it just doesn't look right at all.

4th )when i asked them about skype conversation ( i already knew it was a scum by previous facts that i wrote but wanted to make sure and have some fun with those ppl or whoever they are), she replied to me woman named belinda, that her computer is not working with Skype and made up excuses like that.
5th )fact. I always use google, checking address and all information that i have it this person really exist, guess what i found nothing while before i didnt had any problem to guess proffessions of host family, basically all i wanted to know if i can trust them could find very easly in google =) but of course not belinda family...because simply they are fake. I will try to report them to a police or other place i can before some girl will get into that and who knows what will happen to her. Lets help ech other and report that scum where we can like this maybe some one will take care of this before some one get hurted.

Don't have to a sherlock to see that, im glad other girls are not falling for that as well. I found this side by also checking if its fake fore sure or not, and there we go it is. Take care girls ,and watch out for yourself !

Welcome Inga,

I'm glad that you recognized this as a scam.

Just so you know for future offers, in this type of scam, the criminals aren't interested in you at all. They don't intend for you to travel anywhere. They don't even live in UK.

These scammers are trying to steal your money. What they would do is offer you a job, but then put you in contact with someone they claim is a lawyer, or a travel agency, or a representative of the home office. That person (who is really the scammer) would tell you that you have to send money to pay for your visa or other documents to work. In another variation, they will tell you that you have to rent an apartment, and then put you in contact with a "landlord" who will tell you that you have to send a deposit.

In the end, they plan to just collect any money you send, and then disappear.

What is most important for avoiding these scams is understanding that you should NEVER send money by Western Union or Moneygram, and you should go to the country's immigration site yourself to find out about (and pay for) visas if requried.

Well done Inga. Is best to simply cease communicating with the trickster. Everything the scammer told you is a lie and is pointless to continue writing to it. The @consultant.com is simply a free email address from mail dot com anybody could sign up and use. Scammers use it because it sounds important. The email domain is regularly used in scams. And Barr-southgatecatherine would be another member of the scam syndicate or maybe the scammer playing the role. Such are their devious ways!

Hi,

This seems to be the same who wrote to my son as "Mrs Chloe Curtis" some weeks ago. Same way of expressing and the same bad English.

We reported it to the Swedish police (as we were foolish enough to pay 750 pounds to this "Justin Tucker" in Fulham, London) but they say that we should get in contact with British police.

My question is - do the Police do anything? Is it worth reporting it to them? What do the Police in United States do?
