Scams offering fake Au Pair positions
by alicina92 Fri May 24, 2013 5:26 pm
Hello,
a family (email: [email protected]) contacted me through www.aupair-world.com asking about me, my profile, they told me about where they live and their family, sent me some pictures. I post here a part of the email:

"Hi, I acknowledge your interest in our family and i write with delight to inform you that i
believe you will enjoy staying with us. I am a married woman, my husband's name Robert
and he is a Lawyer. i am a stay at home mom but I always have paperworks to take care of
since i own a farm of my own.
We are lucky that Kids school and activities are all within 15 minutes of our home. Shawn
and Melissa are 2 wonderful kids, they mean the world to us. We attached a picture of them.
We enrolled them at the same school and they do both of their stuffs together. They go to
school two mornings a week, but will likely go three mornings a week come September.
Melissa swims and loves to do arts at home, as well as visit the zoo, Children's museum,
play centers, and the recreation center (that has an indoor pool year round, when our
outdoor pool is closed.
Shawn, is the eldest and like video games and playing soccer at school.
We reside in Cincinnati Ohio. Cincinnati is known for its large collection of historic
architecture."

In another mail they told me they are registered to this agency HostAuPairUsa and they gave me the email to write to ([email protected]). What made me think this could be a scam is the fact I haven't found this agency anywhere, it has an official site, but just that, it's not in the list given by the US government. Moreover, after I filled in some documents (health, personal info,..) they sent me a payment form, and even if I'm not practical with this, it made me think something may be wrong, it was on the name of this "Acency rapresentative" but the name of the agency was showing nowhere. I post here a part of the email they sent me:

"Dear Ms,

We welcome you to HostAuPairUsa, You have made the right choice by contacting us to regulate your travel into the United State of America as an Au Pair. Website registered less than a week ago by a Nigerian in South Africa ?

They don't appear on the official US government list that can be seen here

http://j1visa.state.gov/participants/how-to-apply/sponsor-search/?program=Au%20Pair

Host family application here

http://hostaupairusa.com/images/docs/HOSTAuPairUSA-HFAM-Application.pdf

quotes fax number in Seattle to send card number to. Company claims to be located in California.

The profiles of the au pairs are the standard rubbish that evidences that scammers havem't a clue what an au pair is.

Profile: Sarah spent a year in the UK as an au pair caring for a 10 year old boy. She really liked the experience. Sarah cared for another boy from birth to age 6 and periodically babysits other children.

Au pairs are not allowed to care for babies and new born children. On another profile it mentions liking cats and dogs which isn't a relevant qualification to become an au pair.

CAR ADVERTS - If a car seller mentions escrow - he's scamming you Never ever for any reason pay anything until you have seen and inspected the vehicle

No problem alicina92.

The au pair scammers don't usually go to so much trouble and the website looks quite professional.

The site killers will be along to check it out I'm sure.

The website www.hostaupairusa.com is in the process of being reported for fraud.

It is ALWAYS a scam
If the pet seller or shipper asks for money to be sent via Western Union, Money Gram, any brand of gift card. Walmart To Walmart , Zelle , PayPal friends and family option, or mentions Cameroon

Well spotted alicina92. The reason there was no agency name is because the agency did not exist. The next thing you would have been asked by the scammer was to forward your payments via western union or some other wire transfer method. That is where people lose their hard earned money because no recourse is available once the scammer has made collection on sent funds. Through your report, other will be less likely to get stung when doing an internet search in future.
