This is the second email they send me after i send them a reply. The emailadress did not change, with the other scam i posted the email did change.

Hi Sonja

Thanks for getting back to us and stating your interest in the job. I have attached some pictures of the entire family, our home and your room to this email. Please send us some of your pictures and information about yourself including contact details. We are really excited about this and hope you accept. We sure will make your time here the best.

Here are some details about your job, there will be a more detailed job description when I send you the contract which will be for one year with possibility of an extension.

Here are some of the duties which we will require from you;

You will be required to get the kids ready for school in the morning, take them there, and get them back later in the day.. The school is about 10 minutes drive from the house. If you can drive then we'll work on getting a driver's License for you here in California. If you can't drive then you could call a cab.

Afternoon meals for the kids will be prepared by you. When you get here we will work out a meal schedule for the kids diet.

You will be with them at all times until 5pm when you close for the day. I hope you will get along very well with the kids they are very energetic, fun loving and disciplined. You can help them with their school work and home work.

The kids laundry will be done by machine wash 3 times a week

Your accommodation is a single bedroom, with your own bathroom. It is furnished with a TV, laptop with internet connection. You will also receive a mobile phone.

I will make an application for your working papers here as only the employer can apply for H1B working papers. We will get help from one of the consultants in California and find out how we can get things done correctly.

While we will handle the cost of the trip, the working papers and legal consultations will be shared between us.

I'd also like to know if you have a passport ready. I need the full name on the passport for the contract.

We'd really love to hear back from you so have a wonderful day and don't forget to smile.
Best Wishes,
Keith, Denise and Kids

I really hope that somebody can tell me if this is a scam before i do something stupid

Welcome, sonjamerx

At first read, it has sooo many elements of "scammer" - the English, although better than most, has inaccuracies & the fact they are saying that you must share the costs of "working papers and legal consultations" suggests scam!

Could you please find the headers from the email & post them here? Perhaps we will be able to then say for definite, but the fact that they want money from you & may later suggest you send a copy of your passport (which could be then used for other scams) makes it appear suspicious.
by sonjamerx Sat Mar 20, 2010 4:50 am
What do you mean with headers?????
by Arnold Sat Mar 20, 2010 5:54 am
They are several lines of information added to the email while in transit. With a few exceptions they show where the email was sent from.
They aren't usually visible, but if you can tell us which email provider you use (Yahoo, Gmail, etc) we can tell you how to view them.

by sonjamerx Sat Mar 20, 2010 6:43 am
Okay I understand i use hotmail.com
by Crispy Duck Sat Mar 20, 2010 7:12 am
Thanks - to find headers in Hotmail:

* Click on the desired message in the list with the right mouse button. (Do NOT open the email).
* Select View source from the menu.

Then highlight the info, copy & paste into your post. Delete YOUR email address/name etc from the headers, please - otherwise search engines will find it from your posting here.

I hope i did it how you wrote it...

Great-thank you.

From the headers you sent:

Received: from [41.184.24.70]

& guess what:

41.184.24.70 Nigeria (Lagos)

It is definitely a scam!! :oh-joy:
by sonjamerx Sat Mar 20, 2010 8:07 am
Thank you very very much :-) I almost fell for it
by Dotti Sat Mar 20, 2010 9:54 am
As you already know, this is definitely a scam. As a general rule, a real family looking for a nanny is not going to be asking for money or sending you to an attorney or travel agent who asks you for money.

Another point to be aware of:
I will make an application for your working papers here as only the employer can apply for H1B working papers. We will get help from one of the consultants in California and find out how we can get things done correctly.

It is true that only an employer can apply for an H1B visa. However, Au-pairs and nannies don't fall under the H1B visa!

From the US immigration website:
Background

U.S. businesses use the H-1B program to employ foreign workers in specialty occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise in specialized fields, such as scientists, engineers, or computer programmers.

A specialty occupation requires theoretical and practical application of a body of specialized knowledge along with at least a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent (e.g., architecture, engineering, mathematics, physical sciences, social sciences, medicine and health, education, business specialties, accounting, law, theology, and the arts.)

In other words, this visa type requires a degree, and your employer would be hiring you to work in the field you were educated in! It is intended for scientists, doctors and nurses, engineers, college professors, etc...

If you ever see an au pair offer that talks about this kind of visa, you know it is a scam.
