by Linkaa Fri Aug 16, 2013 6:49 pm
I got an email from a host family, a mother and I am asking is it a scam?

Her letter:

"Good to hear from you and it will be nice to have you here with us. Let me tell you more about us.
I have been separated from my spouse who's Lucas & Julie dad almost 2 years now due to some differences between us and i want
the best for my kids,we love to spend our leisure time going to the park they love people my girl talks alot..lol..not in a
bad way she's just a very smart little girl who likes to know more about things around her and i think thats a good start
for a child like her,i spend most of my free time with them.
I am sending you few pictures of us, please feel free to send me few pictures too if you don't mind and we are going to discuss further about you coming here to join us as a new family member. Thanks
Kristina Clinger"

And after she wrote to me that I can contact with the Aupair USA Exchange (http://www.aupairusa-exchange.com). I did it and they wrote that back to me:

I do not know this Agency or mother is a fake one or not. They are not on the US designated list. I haven't sent them the copy of my passport or any documents yet because they are not on the list and that's why I do not know whether I can believe them.
Do you know something about that Agency or can they be scammers?
Thank you.

Hello Linkaa,

Yes, it is a scam. You can only apply for a Visa at an US Embassy. Also the same script was used here. They did change the name of the company and job. See here. viewtopic.php?f=42&t=53783&p=129589

The website is new with a one year registration. This is common with scammers

If a host family asks you to send money by Western Union or moneygram to anyone, it is a scam.

If you are looking for an au pair position in the US, it is very important that you familiarize yourself with the US government's rules regarding au pairs. In the US, you can ONLY become an au pair if you are sponsored by one of the agencies on this official list: http://j1visa.state.gov/participants/ho ... &state=any If a "family" claims they can hire you directly, or if they refer you to an agency that is not on this list (or if they refer you to an attorney) then they are fake. If they give you the name of an agency on this list, you need to follow the link FROM THE OFFICIAL LIST to the agency's website, then contact the agency THROUGH THEIR WEBSITE OR AT THE PHONE NUMBER ON THE OFFICIAL LIST, and verify that they are indeed arranging a position for you. Otherwise, a scammer could just be using a real agency's name.

I want to state again that it is a scam. The scammer has written me and they are in South Africa.

The first thing is to stop all contact with the scammer, if money has been sent I am afraid that there is nothing that can be done in getting it back.

Then you must watch out for recovery scams, where the email states that for a fee they can get you your money back it is all designed to relieve the victim of their cash.

If you wish you can email me at

Hi! I was getting in touch with this woman, Kristina Burnley Clinger in order to be her family au pair in Houston Texas. Thanks to the warning of my aunt and this site I realized that everything was a scam, so I'm very happy that I was able to detect it before I sent them any money. BUT I was dumb enough to send them by email my CV and my expired passport scan, is there any way that they can use this information on my behalf? I'm not from the US, but I really don't know what to do, or what kind of things they can do with this info. Where should I go to report this? Please help me, because I'm afraid that they could use my information for bad pourposes or scam other people.

She used this email: [email protected]
And the "agency" that she requested to help was Colony Travel Tours, this is the website http://www.colonytraveltours.com/72821840 PLEASE DO NOT PROVIDE THEM YOUR INFORMATION NOR MONEY!
THIS IS A SCAM.

Please help me!! :(
