by Aractea Sun Feb 16, 2014 8:30 am
Hello!
Au Pair I want to go to America and have found an agency that seems well priced, but do not know if it's a scam.
The agency is called Yowork, the e-mail from which I write is [email protected] and the web is : http://yowork.es/au-pair-usa/

The program costs € 475, € 290 and visa in the U.S. embassy would have to pay € 130 for an interview

Do you can help me ?

I do not know what to do

THANKS

It is almost certainly a scam (the site is in Spanish and does not translate well using Google).

The US has very specific procedures that have to be followed to get an au pair visa and part of that is that only specific sponsor companies can sponsor an au pair. The following page lists those companies and their contact details http://j1visa.state.gov/participants/how-to-apply/sponsor-search/?program=Au%20Pair.

If in the slight chance this company is legitimate then at most all they will be doing is introducing you to one of the official sponsors and charging you a lot of money to do it. You would be much better off contacting one of the official sponsors directly.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

Here's my translation:
YOWORK develops this program of cultural exchange in collaboration with organizations recognized in each country, all of them with years of experience in this field. This program is developed in different places of the USA, in collaboration with a recognized American organization and is regulated by the Department of State of USA. The participant works up to 45 hours per week taking care of the children and helping with housework. In exchange the family will give him lodging in an individual room, complete pension[?], weekly pocket money ($195 approx.) and up to $500 for English classes. For the realization of this program one must have the J-1 visa to enter as Au pair in the United States. The American organization will provide all the documentation for obtaining the said visa. In turn, the participant [who gender-changed to female] will have to realize an interview in the United States Embassy in Madrid.

  • Assessment and interview in English
  • yoWork dossier with information on the program
  • Selection and information about the family
  • Guaranteed placement of au pair
  • Online information course prior to arrival in USA
  • Weekly pocket money approx: 195$
  • $500 in formation
  • Two paid vacation weeks
  • Round-trip flight to destination place
  • Supervision during all the stay. Local coordinators less than an hour away from the family to supervise the correct functioning of the program
  • Insurance policy provided by the American Organization
  • Sevis fee
  • Online English course of 50hs

The Spanish is inconsistent and may be the result of machine translation. I don't see any glaring singing polecats, but "Sevis fee" in the Spanish may mean that someone typed English into a translator and it didn't know what to do with the typo, so it left it.
