I have a new-ish one kids!

It's a textbook Au Pair scam. Bulk e-mail, unrealistic salary, suspicious travel agent.

1st message from Mr Sadler:

"My name is Mr Richard Sadler and I am an Engineer, My ex wife is a nurse but we have been divorced for 2months now and I am usually very busy, I live in Manchester, UK. I am looking for a nanny/Au pair to take care of my kids. My kids names are Casey is 5 and Jerry is 2years old.

I want an Au pair/Nanny that is ready to come over hear hopefully when you can come, He/She will be treated as part of my family and not just like an Au pair. Also I will want you play with the kids and teach them new things so as to widen their horizon, all necessary incentives like your personal car, computer, telephone, accommodation, bathroom e.t.c will be taking care of by me.
As a family we enjoy barbecue (weather permitting),socializing, generally having fun, reading, computers, TV, the boys love computer games , arts & crafts.
Food is another great love of ours - given the time I enjoy cooking.
Please get back to me if you are interested in the job.

Waiting to hear from you.

Mr Richard Sadler"

My response (baiting, I knew from the terrible English and the fact that my au pair ad specified I want to work in France!)

"Yes, I am interested in this job. Can you please send me more information?"

As you said, it is a standard au pair scam. He doesn't waste any time getting to the money part, either.

The 44-70 phone number is of course a redirect number to make him look like he is in UK (most likely he is in Africa and calls are simply directed to his cell phone).

For those who aren't familiar with this scam, the "traveling agency" is the scammer himself or an accomplice, and the victim will te told to send money, most likely via western union or moneygram, in order to get the necessary visas to work in the UK. In reality, the money is going into the scammer's pocket. There is no job, and no travel documents are being prepared. If he succeeds in getting money from you once, he will likely make up some other fees, and he will disappear once he thinks he has gotten all he can from you.

I thought as much. I am baiting him a little bit, and he says he wants to take on msn or Skype - but those things are open to viruses as it is so I'm not even replying on that one. I'll see if he pushes things.

Hi Lyren, welcome to Scamwarners.

I am very sorry to hear you have lost money to these scammers, unfortunately there is no way of having it returned to you.

You may receive emails from the scammer telling you that you need to make one more payment or you may even receive what looks like an email from the police telling you they will be able to return your money, these emails will be emore lies designed to steal more of your money.

You are completely right, they have no intention of doing a hard days work, they make a living by stealing from hard working people and it does not bother them in the slightest as to what harm they cause to tehe people they steal from.

Ironically, they usually are very religious, they even pray to god that he ebrings them good victims who will pay them, they have no remorse and will tell any number of lies to steal, please be careful with anybody on the internet.

Small update but worth mentioning. This scammer is persistent - s/he did try to add me on gmail chat. Simply ignored it since I really don't need more proof of this scam. Obviously s/he is doing everything to appear legitimate and friendly. We really need to look out for these things, a lot of people who have been fooled by the scams are fooled by details like photos of the children and employment.

Looking for any kind of employment on the internet is risky but there are legitimate jobs out there. We just need to approach every offer critically and do all the research we can. (And also, what kind of responsible parent would really send photos of their kids to a total stranger online anyway!?)
