It didn't "play out" because I know it is a scam, so I didn't reply to them. They email any email address they can find asking about random products - a legitimate company would not be doing that.

Just delete the email and don't respond to them.

It is very likely that the attachment that is sent to victims is a link to a phishing page or malware. if you have received such an email and opened the attachment, you would be advised to scan your machine with an anti-virus and Malwarebytes and also change all your passwords using a different unconnected machine.
