Termination of your accountant license - Pat Kovarick

This scam was sent to my business, but I'm not a CPA and not a member of The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Obviously the scammer used a "shotgun" approach, emailing hundreds of people (with open CC list) in the hopes that at least a few might be CPAs and be frightened enough to download the malware-infected attachment. The reply-to address is a hotmail account, not from [email protected] as listed in the email body, and the IP traces to Spain.

Downloading an attachment from an unknown source is very dangerous and can lead to your personal and financial data being stolen through a virus or keylogger.

Cancellation of CPA license due to income tax fraud allegations

Dear accountant officer,

We have received a notice of your possible assistance in income tax refund infringement for one of your employees.According to AICPA Bylaw Section 500 your Certified Public Accountant status can be terminated in case of the fact of submitting of a incorrect or fraudulent income tax return client's behalf.
Please familiarize yourself with the notification below and provide your feedback to it within 14 days. The failure to provide the clarifications within this period will result in withdrawal of your Accountant license.
