Glad I could help.

It is a damn shame there are people like this.

Hard to tell the honest folks from the scammers.

If it sounds to good to be true, it usually is I guess.

You can look at other threads on how the scam works. "Buyer chargeback fraud or scambaiting"

Let me know if you here anything from the FBI.

Good luck in selling your vehicle

You are safe jrazzano123, the scammer wants easy money and if you have cut off contact he will not get money from you. They just move on to another email address hoping to get a victim.

Sorry to hear that. I haven't had any trouble since I ceased communications with "Gary."

Got another one from [email protected]

Sweden of all places! Didn't even try to hide it.

I'm not going to sell my truck to someone from Sweden.

I'm in Maryland. Looking for someone local. Didn't send her anything back.

I had to take my ad down from Cars.com. Too many scammers.

This guy is still around i have reported this to Friday ads also requesting they inform me how they vet people on their site, unfortunatley my son paid £3,800 for a black mini cooper s which is still on their website as of tonite, he used the email address of [email protected] still using the 23 engineer regiment, the contact on the advert was Nigel [email protected]. we have put a recall on the money however i do not expect my son will get any of that back. the police have been infomed but to late for us i am afraid. still using Barclays bank to receive the funds the account number given was in the name of Florin Ciobanu. we have reported this to the bank who are not interested.

I have just received an email from 'SGT' [email protected] who was just deployed to Gibraltar and is selling a pink mini. Something in the way the email was first written sounded a bit wrong and the second email I had (after asking him for more information) caused me to look up on google and Im glad I found this thread!

I have sent a report to Friday Ad but is there anywhere else I can report it?

Hi, so glad I came across this. Been emailing [email protected] for a few days now as he said he had a vw beetle convertible for sale for £2000, was due to pay him by bank transfer next week. After he said he would only be contactable by email as he had just been deployed to Gibraltar I started to get weary of different things he was saying. He did say that he had to sell his at quickly as it was his only car and he would be away for a while but a few things didn't add up.... Anyway I have informed the police and I'd suggest anyone who is reading this and has contacted him should be aware that it is a scam. He claims he is sgt David Shelton 23 engineer regiment.
Obviously I haven't given him any money thank god but if it wasn't for this thread and my gut instinct I would have

This time it is a Motorbike. This is one of the emails he sent to me.

I replied to an advert for a motorcycle and got the following reply from the seller. What if any protection would I have if I was to go ahead?

This is the reply.
Hi again and sorry for the delay,
Before leaving I had prearranged shipping and the payment with PayPal (the most secure way to pay and get paid) so my presence isn't necessary(The bike is at our 23 Pioneer Regiment RLC based in Bicester, near Oxford). The Logistic Department will deliver the bike to your home. The price includes all the shipping costs and insurance, so you won't have to pay any extra charges. Since I work with the Army the delivery process is not an issue, I'll have the bike shipped at your home address in maximum 2 days.
Here is what I suggest: we will use PayPal services, you'll make the payment in an PayPal managed account trust fund ( they'll hold the money until you'll receive the bike ), I will send the bike over( the bike will be delivered with the owner's manual, service records, and of course the bill of sale authorized and signed by me),I will offer a 5 day period from the day you'll receive the bike , you can inspect it, take it to a mechanic to check it out, drive it and then if you decided to keep it, you'll confirm to PayPal the sale and they will send the payment to me. If, by any reason, you will not be satisfied with it ( even though I can assure you that it is exactly as described), you can return it at my expense for a full refund of your money, no questions asked .Please note, that the return of my bike will be made, only after you will get your deposit back. I think this is more than fair for the both of us.
The payment is refundable, and is just a security measure, to make sure that the buyer is serious, and that I am not going to ship the bike, and loose time and money. Your payment is 100% covered, because I have open a Trust Account with PayPal and if something goes wrong, you will get a full refund from my account. If you are interested to go ahead with the deal, please reply with your full name, phone # and shipping address so I can ask PayPal to open a case! After, they will contact you explaining all the details regarding the payment.
I'm looking forward to hear from you.
David

I am not an expert, but this is a scam.

Seems like this an email that alot of people have received.

This person is talking in circles and had spelling mistakes.

I encourage you to look further into these scams, but I would not send any money.

There are plenty of examples of how these scams work and what they look like.

I've no intention of sending him any money, I just though I would add it to the pile already here.

Seen an ad in the Friday Ad, thought too good to be true for the price. Sent him and E-mail saying I was interested and this was the reponse:-

Hello,
I apologize for the delay, I'm in the military and that's why I couldn't reply in time. I don't have access to a phone, so we will communicate through e-mails. Anyway, thank you for your interest in buying my car... I was deployed yesterday in Gibraltar and I think I'll stay here for a while that's why I'm selling it so cheap. I intend to buy a new car when I'll get back home. I will use a third part to sell this car (PayPal or Escrow.com). Let me know if you are interested in a purchase.
Thanks, David

Sgt. David Hodson

Sounds like this is the same person, so glad I searched, as they say when things sounds too good to be true they normally are!
